Fabrication of Planar Type Inductors Using FeTaN Magnetic Thin Films

  • A double rectangular spiral type inductor has been fabricated by using FeTaN films. The inductor is composed of internal coils sandwiched by magnetic layers. Characteristics of inductor performance are investigated with an emphasis on planarization of magnetic films. In the absence of the planarization process, the grating topology of the upper magnetic films over the coil arrays degrades the soft magnetic properties and the inductor performance. It also induces a longitudinal magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis aligned to the magnetic flux direction. This alignment prevents the upper magnetic films from contributing to the total induction. Glass bonding is a viable method for achieving a completely planar inductor structure. The planar inductor with glass bonding shows excellent performance: inductance of 1.1 $\mu H$, Q factor of 7 (at 5 MHz), and the current capability up to 100 mA.

측면 연마 광섬유가 금속 박막이 포함된 평면 도파로 사이의 광 결합 (Optical coupling between a side polished fiber and planar waveguide including a thin metal film)

  • 측면이 코어 가까이 연마된 단일모드 광섬유 위에 금속박막이 포함된 평면 도파로가 올려진 광섬유-평면도파로의 파장 및 편광 선택성에 관하여 이론 및 실험 결과를 보고한다. 금속 박막이 포함된 평면도파로의 특성을 구하기 위한 간단하지만 정확한 해석기법을 기술하였다. 소자를 1차원으로 등가화 시켜 결합모드 이론으로 소자의 거동을 분석하였다. 금속막의 두께와 최상부층 물질의 굴절률이 동작 특성에 미치는 영향을 측정하였고 그 결과는 설명 하였다.

Incident-angle-based Selective Tunability of Resonance Frequency in Terahertz Planar Metamolecules

  • We carry out numerical simulations of the responses of planar metamaterials composed of metamolecules under obliquely incident terahertz waves. A Fano-like-resonant planar metamaterial, with two types of resonance modes originating from the two meta-atoms constituting the meta-molecules, exhibits high performance in terms of resonance strength, as well as the outstanding ability to manipulate the resonance frequency by varying the incident angle of the terahertz waves. In the structure, the fundamental electric dipole resonance associated with Y-shaped meta-atoms is highly tunable, whereas the inductive-capacitive resonance of C-shaped meta-atoms is relatively omnidirectional. This is attributed to the electric near-field coupling between the two types of meta-atoms. Our work provides novel opportunities for realizing terahertz devices with versatile functions, and for improving the versatility of terahertz sensing and imaging systems.

  • 본 연구는 특정 안테나의 구조 변경을 통해 원하는 주파수 대역에서 이중대역 특성이 가능하도록 하는 안테나 구조 설계에 관한 연구이다. 대상 안테나는 광대역 특성을 가지는 십자형 평판 모노폴 안테나이고, 목표 주파수 대역은 ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz 이다. 이를 위해 몸체 안테나인 십자형 평판 모노폴 안테나에 추가적인 안테나 소자를 부가한 후 안테나의 길이와 모양을 임의대로 변경하기 위한 조정변수를 설정하여 목표 값에 접근하도록 다양한 시뮬레이션을 실시하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 ISM 2.45GHz/5.8GHz에서 기준 이상의 대역폭과 이득을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 시도한 안테나 구조 변경을 위한 조정변수의 도입은 이중대역(다중대역) 특성을 가지는 안테나 개발시 하나의 유용한 사례가 될 수 있다.

  • We present the optimization of a birefringence-enhanced-waveguide (BWG)-based polarization beam splitter (PBS) in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) configuration and analyze the structure-dependent or polarization-dependent phase difference, using a delay-line MZI (DL-MZI). We fabricate the DL-MZI using silica-based planar lightwave circuit technology and, using the DL-MZI, demonstrate the ability to optimize a PBS by measuring the birefringence of the BWG and structure-dependent phase offset.

Solid-state NMR Studies of Membrane Proteins Using Phospholipid Bicelles

  • Membrane proteins in highly oriented lipid bilayer samples are useful for membrane protein structure determination. We used in the past planar lipid bilayers which were aligned and supported on the glass slide. These samples were mechanically aligned in a magnetic field. However, these stacks of glass slides with planar lipid bilayers are not well suited for use with a commercial solid-state NMR probe with a round coil. Therefore, a homebuilt solid-state NMR probe was built and used with a stack of thin glass plates wherein the RF coil was wrapped directly around the flat square sample. Recently, we began to use magnetically aligned bicelles that are suitable for the structure determination of membrane proteins by solid-state NMR spectroscopy without any effort to build a flat square coil probe. These bicelle samples are well suited for use with a commercial solidstate NMR probe with a round coil, are very easy to prepare and are very stable, so that they can be kept for more than a year. In this paper, we present the solid-state NMR spectra of optimized and magnetically oriented bicelle samples of membrane proteins.

채널 구조에 따른 1T-DRAM Cell의 메모리 특성 (Memory Characteristics of 1T-DRAM Cell by Channel Structure)

  • We fabricated fully depleted (FD) SOI-based 1T-DRAM cells with planar channel or recessed channel and the electrical characteristics were investigated. In particular, the dependence of memory operating mode on the channel structure of 1T-DRAM cells was evaluated. As a result, the gate induced drain leakage current (GIDL) mode showed a better memory property for planar type 1T-DRAM. On the other hand, the impact ionization (II) mode is more effective for recessed type.

마이크로스트립 대 CPW 결합 구조를 이용한 발룬 (Planar Balun using Microstrip to CPW Coupled Structure)

  • 본 논문에서는 마이크로스트립 대 CPW결합 구조를 이용하여 다양한 신호 정합회로에 사용되는 발룬을 제작 측정하였다. 측정 결과, 가용 주파수 2.44~4.33 GHz에서 삽입 손실의 차이는 0.2 dB 이내이고 위상 차이는 2.1$^{\circ}$ 이내로 나타났다. 따라서 제안된 발룬은 구조적 특성으로 인해 다양한 초고주파용 다층 회로에 사용되어 혼합기, 증폭기, 안테나의 급전부 등의 성능향상에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

Design of Planar-Type Modified Folded Loop Antennas

  • This paper proposes the planar-type modified monopole antennas of loop structure. This antenna has an opened center of a conventional closed loop structure with an inside-folded terminal of the loop microstrip line. The size of the proposed antenna was minimized by folding the end of the loop. Also, the reactance value has been minimized by increasing capacitances between the coupled microstrip line. Therefore the proposed antenna has been compacted to about 20% from a conventional loop antenna and has increased its efficiency. The proposed antennas have an omni-directional pattern, the antenna gain was 3.67 [dBi] and the bandwidth was 900 MHz (2.6~3.56 GHz) with VSWR$\leq$2 from the simulated and the measured results. The frequency utilization coefficient was 29.9%. These properties could satisfy the S-DMB band.

LMDS용 평면형 안테나의 실용화 방안 (A Study on the Practice Method of Planar Antenna for LMDS)

  • 본 논문에서는 LMDS용 평변형 안테나로 28 GHz에서 동작하는 LTS 안테나와 Vivaldi 안테나를 시간영역 유한차분법(Finite Difference Time Domain Method)를 이용하여 최적화한 후 제작 및 측정하였다. 부엽의 크기 를 줄이기 위하여 corrugation 구조를 설계한 평변형 안테나에 적용하여 FDTD 방법으로 최적화 한 후, 제작 및 측정하였다. 측정결과, corrugation 구조를 갖는 LTS 안테나와 Vivaldi 안테나의 부엽의 크기가 약 4 dB 감소됨을 확인하였다.
