Wetland transformation through Water Resource Users Association; The case of Rwamuthambi Sub Catchment area, Kenya

  • Many studies conducted in Kenya regarding water resource governance have focused on the mandate of Water Resource Users Associations (WRUAs) with less attention being accorded to their effectiveness in conservation of wetlands. This study assessed the effectiveness of WRUA committees, and challenges faced in conservation of Rwamuthambi Sub-catchment. The study employed exploratory descriptive research design. Data was collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, observations and review of secondary data. Chi square and descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data. The survey results revealed that only 15% of WRUA committee understood water resources management while 35% were aware of relevant legislations. Factors of wetland degradation showed significant association with existence of WRUA (χ2 (4, N=180) = 20.46, p< .01) where (χ2- chi square (degrees of freedom, N = sample size) = chi-square statistic value, p = p value), although WRUA contributions were perceived differently per agro-ecological zone (χ2 (8, N=147) = 15.51, p>.05). Challenges unearthed were inadequate financial and human resources, lack of understanding, ineffective collaborative governance, poor support from county government and private ownership of riparian land reserve. There is need for WRUAs to embrace collaborative governance for effective conservation of wetlands. Integration of sub catchment management plan with county land use plans and policy review is also required.

  • As use of tunnels and subways increase there also are accidents proportionate to it. Daegu Subway Station fire, Hongjimoon tunnel fire led people to be conscious of disaster protection and as a result, there is a trend to adopt standards for fire protection. Accordingly, this thesis is focused on investigating various fire and water protection related issues for subaqueous tunnel under Ran river. The thesis developed evacuation and disaster prevention plan as fire level increases and have identified the suitability of disaster prevention through evacuation and fire simulation, countermeasure of a water leakage during construction and operation considering the subaqueous tunnel. And we selected EPB shield TBM equipment considering the ground condition and effect of boring hole, and accomplished reasonable water protection design through setting goals using event-tree method, as well as examining model test of boring hole and flooding in heavy rain. Also included structured total system consist of water leakage sensing system, water protection gate, pumping system and fire protection system to respond systematically in emergency.

경주 토함산과 남산 국립공원의 이용만족 평가 - 중요도-성취도 분석을 중심으로 - (Evaluation of Use Satisfaction for Tohamsan and Namsan National Parks in Kyongju - Focused on Importance-Performance Analysis -)

  • Recently the use demand for national parks has been rapidly increased due to the change of leisure patterns in Korea. The intensive use of national parks, however, can cause serious management problems both in resource conservation and in visitor satisfaction. In order to prepare the effective management plan for the sustainable use of national parks, it is essential to evaluate the visitor satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to provide important information for the management strategies for Namsan and Tohamsan national parks in Kyongju. Importance-performance analysis (IPA) was adopted to analyze the visitor expectation and satisfaction. The questionnaire survey was performed to the 420 visitors of the three sites (Namsan Sam-reung, Namsam Yong-jang, and Tohamsan) that are the most popular areas in Kyongju national park. The IPA for the 18 satisfaction items shows that all the values for importance are higher than those for performance in the three sites. This results indicates that visitors' satisfactions for the 18 items are lower than their expectations. The IP matrix reveals that the management effort should be concentrated on the educational opportunities for nature and culture in Yong-jang, on the convenient access to park in Sam-reung. and on the availability of cool drinking water in Tohamsan. Based on the results, several suggestions for the management strategies were summarized for the three sites in conclusion.

물 사용량 예측을 위한 선형 모형과 딥러닝 알고리즘의 비교 분석 (Comparative analysis of linear model and deep learning algorithm for water usage prediction)

  • 물 사용량 예측은 최적의 용수 공급 운영 방안을 수립하고 전력 소비량 절감을 위하여 꼭 필요한 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 수용가 단위의 물 사용량은 용도, 사용자의 패턴, 날씨 등의 다양한 요인으로 인해 변화하는 비선형적 특성을 지니고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 비선형적인 수용가 단위의 물 사용량을 예측하기 위하여 다양한 기법들을 연계한 KWD 프레임워크를 제안하고자 하였다. 즉, 먼저 개별 수용가 마다 용도에 따른 유사한 패턴을 파악하기 위해 K-means (K) 군집분석을 수행하였고, 잡음성분을 제거함으로써 핵심적인 주기패턴을 파악하기 위해 Wavelet (W) 방법을 적용하였다. 또한 비선형적 특성을 학습시키기 위해 Deep learning (D) 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 그리고 기존의 선형 시계열 모형인 ARMA 모형과 비교하여 KWD 프레임워크의 성능을 분석하였다. 그 결과 제안된 모형의 상관성은 92%, ARMA 모형은 약 39%로 KWD 프레임워크가 2배 이상의 성능을 가지는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제안한 방법을 활용할 경우 정확한 물 사용량 예측이 가능해질 것이며, 상황에 따른 최적의 공급 방안을 수립할 수 있을 것이다.

  • We are explaining shapes factor of ground electrode in a rectangular parallelepiped which is based on analysis of a hemisphere electrode. Actually, a hemisphere electrode is hardly used in a plan and construction, because it is difficult for somebody to use one. This thesis describes the method of grounding resistance estimation which is used the water tank model and electrode shopes factor.

In-Situ Diagnosis of Vapor-Compressed Chiller Performance for Energy Saving

  • In-situ diagnosis of chiller performance is an essential step for energy saving business. The main purpose of the in-situ diagnosis is to predict the performance of a target chiller. Many models based on thermodynamics have been proposed for the purpose. However, they have to be modified from chiller to chiller and require profound knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer. This study focuses on developing an easy-to-use diagnostic technique that is based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The effect of sample data distribution on training the ANFIS is investigated. It is found that the data sampling over 10 days during summer results in a reliable ANFIS whose performance prediction error is within measurement errors. The reliable ANFIS makes it possible to prepare an energy audit and suggest an energy saving plan based on the diagnosed chilled water supply system.

분석단위 세분화에 따른 한강권역의 물수급 분석 비교 및 고찰 (Comparison and discussion of water supply and demand forecasts considering spatial resolution in the Han-river basin)

  • 우리나라는 효율적인 수자원 관리를 위해 노력하고 있으며, 향후 지역의 문제와 물이용 현황, 특성, 지형, 기후 등을 고려한 유역을 세분화한 후 계획을 수립하는 것이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한강 권역을 대상으로 MODSIM 모형을 활용하여 중권역과 표준유역단위 물 수급 체계를 구축하고 분석 결과를 비교하였다. 분석 결과, 49개년(1967-2015)간 발생하는 평균 물 부족량은 중권역 단위 129.98 백만$m^3$, 표준유역단위 2,229.24 백만 $m^3$으로 약 21 억$m^3$ 가량의 차이가 나타났으나 물 부족이 발생하는 시기와 물 부족 발생 공간 분포에 대한 경향은 매우 유사하게 나타났다. 이러한 원인은 중권역 단위 분석의 경우, 모든 수량을 이용할 수 있다는 가정으로 대표 자연유량 값에 대한 생활, 공업, 농업용수 수요량에 대한 물 부족량이 산정된다. 그러나, 표준유역단위 분석에서는 분할된 공급량과 수요량의 차이로 인해 본류와 이격되어 있는 지류는 가용할 수 있는 수자원량이 상대적으로 작아져 물 부족이 크게 발생하는 것으로 나타났고, 본류는 오히려 회귀수량의 파급효과로 인해 물 부족이 나타나지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 향후, 분석 단위의 세분화 뿐만 아니라 실제 물이용체계가 모형 내 고려된다면 지역적 특성이 반영된 물수급 평가가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

총량관리 단위유역 평가기법을 활용한 서울특별시 주요 유입 지천의 수질개선효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Water Quality Improvement of Major Tributaries in Seoul, Applying Watershed Evaluation Techniques)

  • South Korea has been divided into quantities and water quality, and due to a revision of the Government Organization law in June 2018, the controversial water management system was integrated into the Ministry of Environment. The total Maximum Daily Loads System has been called the flower of water quality control, and since 2004, all three major river systems which have been introduced into the Han River system, despite its various difficult environments, and subsequently leading to all of the four major rivers undergoing obligatory implementation since 2013. Currently, the target TMDL (Han River Phase 1 and Other Water Systems Phase 3) for the 2020 stage has been implemented. The domestic TMDL established a basic plan for calculating the load which complies with the unit watershed's target water quality, as well as an implementation plan for annual load management, both which have been institutionalized in order to evaluate load compliance on a repeated annual basis. Local governments ask external organizations to conduct investigations every year in order to assess the transition, which thereby requires tens of millions of won every year. Therefore, an assessment and management model that can be easily operated at the TMDL personnel level is required. In this study, when the Han river Water System TMDL was implemented in earnest, we confirmed the the water quality improvement effect when TMDL was introduced to major inflow tributaries (TancheonA, JungnangA, AnyangA) under the Seoul City's jurisdiction through the use of the total amount control unit basin evaluation technique. By presenting customized management measures, we propose the guidelines that are necessary for determining more effective water environmental policies.

공업용수 공급량 산정의 적정성에 대한 평가 (Evaluation of the Water Supply in the Industrial Complex)

  • 공업용수 공급의 적정성평가는 산업단지 건설의 핵심 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 옥산산업단지를 대상으로 산업단지의 계획 및 조성과 입주기업의 운영 이용률에 따라 공업용수 공급량에 대하여 조사하였다. 공업용수 공급량 산정을 위하여 급수계획 수립 시 기초자료와 토지이용계획 분석을 이용하였으며, 공업용수 산정의 기초가 되는 산업별 기본단위 적정성을 평가하였다. 또한, 청주시 내 산업단지 중 연구 대상지역으로 선정한 옥산 산업단지대상으로 공업용수 사용량 자료와 산업별 원단위를 의 실제 자료에 대하여 비교 평가를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 공업용수 첨두부하율을 실 사용량을과 비교하였을 경우, 첨두 부하율이 2배 이상 차이가 나는 것으로 조사되었으며, 실제 공업용수 사용량과 차이가 있는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 용수를 적게 사용하는 산업에서의 원단위는 증가하는 것으로 확인하였으며, 용수를 많이 사용하는 산업의 원단위는 크게 감소함을 확인하였다.

CFD와 실측을 이용한 환경제어요소 도입 및 주택 자연환기 성향 검토를 통한 에너지 절감가능성 고찰 (Study on Energy Saving Possibilities through Analysis of Environment Control Elements & Natural Ventilation Performance using the CFD & Measurement)

  • Heat island is caused by changes of land coverage structure of cities and use of energy in buildings. As a result energy use in buildings get to increase further followed by rising of GHG emission and deteriorating climate change. Eco-friendly housing complex is a kind of plan that applies environmental control elements like water and green spaces to housing complex. With these methods, it can be expected to create thermal environment of indoor and outdoor. In this paper quantitative examination is studied on using CFD to find out the effects of river, water permeable, parks and planting on thermal environment. And by comparing field measurements with CFD results which are aimed to development phase housing complex, feasibility and usability of the CFD analysis results are confirmed. And also, analysis on the ventilation performance followed by natural ventilation system is analyzed by selecting one building in housing complex. Based on the results, the possibilities of energy reduction through making thermal environment and applying natural ventilation are studied. With these outcomes, creating thermal conditions and using natural ventilation would be contributed to GHG reduction.
