플레이스는 단순한 물리적 공간보다는 확장된 의미이다. 따라서 장소를 대상으로 하는 모든 활동들은 이와 같이 다양한 관계 구조를 지닌 장소의 특성을 이해하고 핵심적으로 반영해야 한다. 최근에 주목받고 있는 플레이스 브랜딩도 예외는 아니다. 본 연구는 플레이스 브랜딩을 장소와 가치라는 차원에서 재검토하고, 이를 통하여 보다 체계적이고 구체적인 평가체계를 구축하고자 한다. 새로운 평가체계의 구축은 다음과 같은 문제 제기를 통해 얻고자 하는 목적을 충족하기 위함이다. 본 연구는 장소가치를 중심으로 하는 플레이스 브랜딩을 새롭게 정의하여 플레이스 브랜딩 시스템의 정확성과 보편성을 확보하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 작게는 역동적인 플레이스 브랜딩 활동에 일익하고, 크게는 도시디자인 관련 평가 모델로 활용될 수 있도록 한다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.

Place matters to knowledge creation according to the recent literature on economic geography and its related disciplines. This basic insight is not incorrect. But there is some vagueness in the discussions on this theme and there seems to appear a variety of geo-determinism on the competitiveness of SMEs in manufacturing industries. This paper reexamines that thinking on the basis of the realities of innovative manufacturing SMEs in a periphery of Japan, south of Kyushu Island. As a result, it is possible to classify face-to-face contacts into two kinds of communication. One is the communication, through which a supplier of a way of solution (knowledge) can grasp problems (information) of its customer in detail. The other is the communication, through which one can get some new idea. Information can spread world wide, but not always quickly and ubiquitously, because it often contains tacitness and secret, even if a large part of the information are coded in some form. Details of the information can be communicated only with the help of five senses. And it is necessary for the information receiver to listen to the sender carefully with the help of the other senses. In this meaning, tacitness does matter. Knowledge, namely ability to understand and power to bring some idea in practice, is always connected with some place, either at workshop of supplier or of customer in the case of manufacturing industries. However, not places but human beings possess the knowledge, and human beings can be mobile. Therefore, it is not restricted to a place.

This paper presents a landscape design for the citizen plaza around the ˝Woojeongchongkuk˝(the 1st Korean postal building) where the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1844 coup d´etat) occurred and which was once used as the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(a palace hospital). The site is located in 39 Kyeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and of which area is about 2,013$m^2$. The landscape design goals are to build traditional spaces which fit the traditional buildings and where people feel the old atmosphere; to build interesting spaces where people can learn the post and telegraphic history; and to build nature-friendly green rest spaces in the city. To achieve these goals, symbolic, traditional, educational, historical, and environmentally-friendly concepts are developed. With this concept the space is divided into two axis of the pst and telegraph of Korea. Along the two axis the Postage Stamp ˝Madang˝(yard), the Letter Garden, the Telegraphic ˝Ddeul˝(garden), the Communication Plaza, and the ˝Jeoneoigam˝(old palace hospital) and the ˝Gapsinjeongbyeon˝(1884 coup d´etat) Memorial Place are arranged. The Postal Stamp Madang which symbolizes the first Korean postage stamp is a space for studying history and evolution of stamps in Korea. The Letter Garden which symbolizes and formalizes a letter paper is composed with white bamboo trees which are planted linearly and long granite benches on which famous letters are carved. In the Telegraphic Ddeul which symbolizes the telegraph, the history of the telegraphic instrument and the telephone is exhibited. In the Communication Plaze which symbolizes future post and telegraph service extending to the world, the images of satellite communication, internet, webmail etc. are exhibited. The Jeoneoigan, and the Gapsinjeongbyeon Memorial Place is for memorializing the historic place and events. Throughout the whole place, various models and ceramic picture tiles about the post and telegraph and exhibited for effective education. In conclusion, sustainable management schemes for the site are suggested.

Recently, the public design plays a role in improving the residents' quality of life and activating the local economy as an axis of the regional development. However, during the development process led by the local government, the public space has been changed to a place where only the function is emphasized without considering the local history, culture, and life. Since the opinions of the regional residents are not reflected, the public place lacks public benefits and has difficulties in continuous improvement and development. Here, we studied on the participation of residents in public design. Firstly, we discussed public design that residents can participate voluntarily and actively as users, managers, and beneficiaries. Secondly, it is necessary for the residents, who are not experts in the public design, to have easily understandable and well tractable communication media which facilitate communications with a group of the design experts and the public service personnel. We explained the types and specialities of the communication media. Thirdly, it is necessary for the residents to contribute much to the local development by active participation in the sustainable and consistent public design through using the easily accessible communication media.

As the internet communication is prevalent in recent years, it becomes quite possible to monitor and control some mechanical plants from the remote place through the TCP/IP communication. Such a concept is expected to be applied to many industrial systems for easy maintenance and trouble shooting as well as various kinds of expensive test equipments for sharing. In this research, remote data monitoring and speed control for a DC-motor is implemented and tested through TCP/IP communication with embedded micro-controllers. It showed the possibility of reliable remote control system design utilizing the internet communication.

Cloud computing emerges as a new computing paradigm which targets reliable and customizable services. The term builds on decades of research in virtual machine, distributed and parallel computing, utility computing, and more recently networking, web service, and software as a service. In this paper, we provide a seamless connection migration of web services. This is useful for cloud computing environment in which many client terminals have mobility. With the wireless internet facility, those mobile users can move place to place during internet communication. Therefore, we provide solutions to the two major problems in current virtualization based migration: communication failure problems and connection re-establishment. Communication channel flushing by zero window notification helps to resolve the communication failure problems and TCP port inheritance prevents connection re-establishment errors during socket reconstruction. Thus, our web service migration facility is now able to preserve open network connections, and even for server sockets. This is a highly transparent approach, in that we did not Introduce additional messages for channel flushing and did not make any modification to the TCP protocol stack. Experimental results show that the overhead due to connection migration of web services is almost negligible when compared with time to take the conventional web service migration.

The core of character and concept in an exhibition space of contemporary museum is that the place for relics and materials changes into the place for spectators, the static exhibition place changes into the dynamic exhibition place, and the place for learning naturally during amusement. In other words, it could convey the conceptual exhibition object which is not the material object called a relic, it could be a place where is to investigate, participate, experience and enjoy with easily method to general public, and ordinary people are supposed to experience with integrative the world of intellectual, cultural and artistic which is inconcionsly rising a dimensiov. In order to response positively the change of these exhibition concept itself, exhibition system will be established through the analysis of realistic exhibition objects with the visulatization of theme or thought of an exhibitiov. In process of conveying image, the effective and concrete exhibition method and technique should be measured in order to realize the communication between spectators and exhibition objects. The purpose of this study is to find the methodology which is enable to establish the exhibition theme and presentation system through the selection and analysis of exhibition objects in major cases of a musem of ecience and engneering, to find the process model till the methodology applies to the space scheme, and to find finally the designed indicators which is applicable to the progress of exhibition desigv.

The purpose of this paper is to give some crisis communication strategies for effective cooperation and coordination among the countries in global society. Based on the theoretical discussions, in this paper, five strategic recommendations toward improving crisis communication are offered as follows; First, it is necessary that a small, dynamic team for global crisis communication function be established among the nearby countries. Second, for understanding the neighboring country's crisis situation, it is needed that the common crisis communication organizations which play an important role of disseminating accurate information and giving the collaborative efforts in each country have to be made. Third, for effective crisis management, an appropriate infrastructure that includes open and effective communication channels among different levels and across organizations must be in place. Fourth, mass communication should fulfill a variety of functions in society and provide information, interpretation of events, and its influence, etc for cooperating and coordinating the crisis management. Fifth, to acquire a correct understanding of the bordering country's crisis and calamities, intercultural education program should be established in the crisis communication system.

This plan for the Medical and Information Technology University which is built by the will and support of Korea at the small county Kingdom of Swaziland in Africa. As we consider the essential condition of self-supporting of nation is the education for the poor country in culturally and socially. The establish the University in the downtown is a significant work in socially and culturally as the urban infrastructure. Besides, this is presenting the master plan not only educational institution purpose but the place for the desirable communication between regional resident in educational and cultural circumstances. It is the main concept for this plan that flexible arrangement of the lower stories buildings on the gentle hill according to the geographic features of the field, road situation, supporting equipment, construction ability and Building materials.
