Sintered Metal Wicks Development for the High Performance Loop Heat Pipe(LHP) Systems

  • The Loop Heat Pipe(LHP) system uses capillary forces so as to pump the working fluid from heat acquisition to heat rejecting systems. The performance of the LHP systems depends mainly upon the operating performance of the wick structure. The capillary pressure increases with decreasing the pore size of the wick structure. By the way, the wick structure's permeability decreases with decreasing the pore size and the porosity. To obtain an ideal wick, the wick structure should possess several characteristics such as the small pore size, high porosity and chemical compatibility with working fluid. Sintered metal wicks have been mainly used as the capillary wick structure mounted in LHP because of the fact that the sintered metal wick has some advantages like convenient selection of wick material, smaller pore size and so on as well as high reliability. In this study, sintered metal wicks were developed to meet required several parameters to design the high performance LHP systems for obtaining even more effective cooling technologies.

전자 밸브에 의해서 제어되는 히트파이프의 전열 특성 (Characteristics of Heat Transfer in a Heat pipe Controlled by Solenoid Valve)

  • 본 연구에서는 히트파이프의 제어를 전자밸브에 의하여 단속 되어질 때 증발부의 상태변화가 응축부에 미치는 전열제어 특성을 연구한 것이다. 증발부와 응축부사이의 단열부에 전자밸브를 설치하여 증발부의 열저장에 따른 밸브제어의 영향, 밸브주기 개폐에 따른 응축부의 응답특성, 경사도, 입열량, 냉각수량변화가 전열에 미치는 연구를 실행하고 증발부와 응축부의 유동특성을 고찰하여 전자제어밸브에 따라 증기의 동특성영향을 연구한다. 그 결과는 응축부와 증발부사이의 온도차가 크면 온도의 진동수는 증가하고, 온도의 진폭은 감소한다. 제어밸브의 개폐시간이 지연되면 증발부의 펄스비등은 강하게되고 밸브개폐후 응축부의 온도 진동은 지연 감쇄한다.

  • This is to characterize the fluid mechanics of surfactant water solutions, which exhibit drag reduction in the turbulent flow as compared to pure water. The emphasis is placed on those fluid characteristic aspects of drag reducing solutions which are relevant for application in closed circulation loops for the purpose of pumping power savings, like hydronic cooling and heating systems in buildings. The experiments are carried out with the solutions of the surfactant Beraid DR-IW 616 in concentration of $100{\sim}3,000ppm$. The following key parameters are focused in this study: surfactant concentration, solution temperature and pipe diameter.

지역냉방을 위한 아이스슬러리의 연속제조 및 배관내 빙충전율 조절 (Continuous Ice Slurry Production and Control of Ice Packing Factor in a Pipe for the District Cooling)

  • The ice slurry maker which can produce the ice slurry well for the ice particle in-flowing condition was revised. We removed the stagnant region at the top of the ice slurry maker, and IPF 40% could be realized. The IPF controller with 6 mm diameter holes at the bottom was designed. But the IPF controller with only 6 mm diameter holes could not control IPF in a pipe. This is because the ice particles at ice slurry flow exist homogeneously not only at the upper part but also at the bottom part. We changed the hole size of IPF controller surface using fine meshes and then, IPF in a pipe was increased by 70% when the hole size was $80{\mu}m$ and less.

  • 지열 에너지는 지구에 저장된 활용하기 쉬운 재생에너지 이며, 열교환 배관 시스템을 통해 수집될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 터널 주변 라이닝에 지열 에너지를 포집할 수 있는 열교환 파이프 루프를 간편하게 설치할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 터널 세그먼트에 결합된 열 교환 파이프 루프 시스템은 수송 유체 순환을 통해, 지중 주변의 열을 인근 구조물 또는 지역의 냉난방 열원으로 사용할 수 있다. 터널 세그먼트에 통합 연결된 열 교환 파이프 루프 시스템을 에너지 라이닝 세그먼트(Energy Lining Segment)이라고 명하도록 하겠다. 유럽에서는 터널 라이닝에 열 교환 파이프 루프 시스템을 통합한 수차례의 사례가 있다. 본 연구에서는 에너지 라이닝 세그먼트에 대한 적용성 평가를 위해, 독일 사례와 유럽 도시에 적용된 사례를 조사해 보았다. 또한, 에너지 라이닝 세그먼트의 열 전도특성을 파악하기 위해, 전산유체해석(CFD)을 수행해 보았다.

지중 매설관의 세정을 위한 카본 다이옥사이드 펠릿의 현장 적용성 검토 (Field Applications of Carbon Dioxide Pellet for Underground Pipe Cleaning)

  • 본 연구에서는 지중 매설관의 새로운 세정공법으로 개발된 카본 다이옥사이드 펠릿을 이용한 분사 세정공법의 현장 적용성을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 우선적으로 미국 철강도금도장위원회에서 제안하고 있는 관 세정 전후에 관한 시방내용들을 조사하고 이를 기초로 하여 본 공법의 금속표면 처리기준을 선정하였으며 임의의 녹이 슨 관을 대상으로 카본 다이옥사이드 분사세정의 현장시험을 수행하고 세정도가 선정기준에 부합되는지를 검토하였다. 또한, 모양을 달리한 2가지의 노즐시스템이 적용되어 분사압에 따른 세정효과가 분석되었으며 각 노즐시스템에 대해서 최종 충격량 계측시험을 수행하여 공기압 대비 최종 분사압의 압력손실을 검토하였다. 연구결과, 제안된 공법은 미국철강도금위원회에서 규정하고 있는 수준을 상회하는 세정효과가 있음을 확인하였으며 노즐 비교실험으로부터 세정효과가 우수한 노즐도 선정되었다. 이로부터 카본 다이옥사이드 펠릿을 이용한 관 세정공은 완전탈락수준에 이르는 관 세정효과를 기대할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 냉각제로의 이용 등에 국한되는 이산화탄소 재활용 부분의 활성화에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

$CO_2$가스 배관용접부의 파괴인성평가에 관한 연구 (Study on the Evaluation of Fracture Toughness at Welded Zone for the Pipe Steel by $CO_2$ Gas Welding)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the fracture toughness of the welded pipe from the viewpoint of FATT for the S38 and S42 steels used widely as the pipe material. Post weld heat treatment(PW HT) was carried out like following conditions: temperature of 67$0^{\circ}C$, I hour of holding time and cooling in furnace. Fracture toughness was obtained by measuring the crack opening displacement(COD) of the notched specimens over the range of temperature from -14$0^{\circ}C$ to -$25^{\circ}C$. Hardness values at fusion line near around were the highest and the microstructures at welded zone were coarsened. Regardless of the pipe materials, COD and temperature curves of the as-welds were moved toward higher temperature compared with those of the parents. However, COD and temperature curves of the PWHT specimens were positioned at lower temperature compared with those of the as-welds. The more heat input causes to decrease the COD values at the constant temperature. It was verified through the recrystallization treatment that PWHT was attributed to move toward lower temperature region considerably due to the improved plastic deformation at the same applied COD value of 0.3mm and softening effect. In case of the weldment of S38 steel, cleavage fracture was observed at -105$^{\circ}C$ unlike the structural steels, in which brittle fracture mode was generally shown at - 196$^{\circ}C$.

이음매 없는 304L 스테인리스강관의 부식특성에 미치는 열처리의 영향 (Effect of Heat Treatment on the Corrosion Properties of Seamless 304L Stainless Steel Pipe)

  • Austenitic stainless steels have been widely used for various systems of nuclear power plants. Among these stainless steels, small pipes with diameter less than 14 inch have been produced in the form of seamless pipe. Annealing and cooling process during the manufacturing process can affect corrosion properties of seamless stainless steels. Therefore, 12 inch-diameter of as-received 304L stainless steel pipe was annealed and aged in this study. Intergranular corrosion resistance was evaluated by ASTM A262 Practice A, C, and E methods. The degree of sensitization was determined using a DL-EPR test. U-bend method in an autoclave was used to evaluate the SCC resistance in 0.01 M $Na_2S_4O_6$ or 40% NaOH solution at $340^{\circ}C$. As-received specimen showed relatively high degree of sensitization and intergranular corrosion rate. Carbon segregation was also observed near grain boundaries. Annealing treatment could give the dissolution of segregated carbon into the matrix. Aging treatment could induce segregation of carbon and finally form carbides. Microstructural analysis confirmed that high intergranular corrosion rate of the as-received seamless pipe was due to micro-galvanic corrosion between carbon segregation and grains.

스크린 윅을 삽입한 소형 히트파이프에서 열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Heat Transfer Characteristics in Miniature Heat Pipes with Screen Wick)

  • This study is to research the heat transfer characteristics in copper-water heat pipes with screen wick, #100. Recently, the semiconductor capacity of an electronic unit has been larger, on the contrary, its size is smaller than before. As a result, a high-performance cooling system is needed. Experimental variables are inclination angle and temperature of cooling water. The distilled water was used for the working fluid. At a inclination angle ${-6}^{\circ}$, #100 2layer screen mesh is shown the best heat transfer performance.

  • The crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration is a serious problem, particularly in concrete structures such as mat-slab of nuclear reactor buildings, dams or large footings, foundations of high rise buildings, etc.. As a result of the temperature rise and restriction condition of foundation, the thermal stress which may induce the cracks can occur. Therefore the various techniques of the thermal stress control in massive concrete have been widely used. One of them is prediction of the thermal stress, besides low-heat cement which mitigates the temperature rise, pre-cooling which lowers the initial temperature of fresh concrete with ice flake, pipe cooling which cools the temperature of concrete with flowing water, design change which considers steel bar reinforcement, operation control and so on. The Aim of this paper is to verify the effect of low heat blended cement in reducing thermal stress in slab type's mass concrete such as container harbor structures.
