  • This experiment was carried out to study the influence of temperature treatments on germination of sorghum (cv. Pioneer 931), sorghum-sudangrass (cv. Pioneer 988), sudangrass (cv. Piper) and corn (cv. Suweon 19) in growth chamber. Each crop seeds were germinated under different day/night temperature of 10/5, 15/10, 20/15, 25/20, 30/25, 35/30 and $40/35^{\circ}C$ over 14/10 hour days. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. Germination of sorghum and sorghum-sudangrass were less affected by high temperature than those of corn and sudangrass. The optimum temperatures for germination were $20-40^{\circ}C$ for sorghum and $20-30^{\circ}C$ for corn. High temperature($40/35^{\circ}C$), however, resulted in great decrease of seed germination rates of seed germination rates of corn, while those of sorghum and sorghum-sudangrass shown high germination rates with the value of 95.8% and 89.9%, respectively. 2. Sorghum-sudangrass hybrid was shown to have a great tolerance to low temperature. Under low temperature($10/5^{\circ}C$) seed germination of sorghum-sudangrass was 80.0% but those of corn and sudangrass were 43.2% and 24.8% respectively. Germination rates of sorghum were decreased to about 68.8% at low temperature from a value of 98.1% at optimum temperature. 3. The days required to the seed germination of sorghum and sorghum-sudangrass hybrid were shortened by increasing of temperature. Under different temperature treatments, it was required 12 days ($15/10^{\circ}C$), 6 days ($25/20^{\circ}C$) and 3 days ($40/35^{\circ}C$) in sorghum but corn required 16, 7 and 3 days, respectively.

  • The Fagus Factory at Alfeld on the Leine in Germany, which was built in 1911 and 1914, is a well-known and very important object in the history of modern architecture. Alan Colquhoun mentioned that it is "prophetic of the 'objective' (sachlich) Modern Movement of the 1920s". Vittrio M. Lampugnani evaluated it as "a Pioneer building of the architectural Realism". Most of historian of architecture explain that these achievements were accomplished mainly by the master architect Walter Gropius and sometimes by his co-worker Adolf Meyer. Through investigating the background in the planning stage and the process of design it is to try to find out what is truly happened during the project time. Furthermore, historical meanings of the building in the modern architecture is reinterpreted in the following aspects; who or which elements have influence on the Fagus Factory? and what kind of problems can be caused by the digested architectural history?

  • Mobility of an indoor wheeled robot is affected by adhesion force that is related to various floor conditions. When the adhesion force between driving wheels and floor decreases suddenly, the robot begins slip. In order to overcome this slip problem, optimal slip velocity must be decided for stable movement of wheeled robot. First of all, this paper shows that conventional PI control can not be applied to a wheeled robot of the light weight. Secondly, proposed fuzzy logic is applied to the Takagi-Sugeno model for the configuration of fuzzy sets. For the design of Takagi-Sugeno model and fuzzy rule, proposed algorithm uses FCM(Fuzzy c-mean clustering method) algorithm. In additionally, this algorithm adjusts the driving torque for restraining re-slip. The proposed fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is pretty useful with prevention of the slip phenomena for the controller performance in the re-adhesion control strategy, These procedures are implemented using a Pioneer 2-DXE wheeled robot parameter.

  • The Belgian Nuclear Research Centre(SCK${\cdot}$CEN) has been a pioneer of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy after over forty years of existence. Recently, SCK${\cdot}$CEN's financial support of doctoral and postdoctoral research in close collaboration with universities has been a vital ingredient for securing a quality profile committed to the pursuit of execllence. FLINS, Fuzzy Logic and Intelligent technologies in Nuclear Science, was initially built within one of the postdoctoral research project at SCK${\cdot}$CEN. Among SCK${\cdot}$CEN's activities which will have an important impact on its scientific future, the application of fuzzy logic and intelligent technologies in nuclear science and engineering opens new domains in radiation protection, safety assessment, human reliability, nuclear reactor control, waste and disposal, etc. In this paper, we review the available literature on fuzzy logic in nuclear applications. We then present the initiative of R&D on fuzzy logic applications at SCK${\cdot}$CEN, namely, (1) safety control for a nuclear reactor, and (2) a safety evaluation model for nuclear transmission lines. By these two examples of nuclear applications, we illustrate the potential use of fuzzy logic in nuclear safety issues.

  • Oxygen behaviors in CZ-silicon wafer, grown by the Lucky Advanced Materials Inc. that is a pioneer of silicon material industries in Korea, were investigated to simulate effects on the device performance of oxygen, neglecting the effect of other impurity content, defects and thermal history. Silicon wafers were annealed through simulated 16K SRAM thermal cycle. As initial oxygen concentration increased up to 16.7ppma the amount of oxygen precipitation increased up to 10.6ppma and the bulk microdefect density increased up to $10.3{\times}10^3/mm^2$, but the depth of the denuded zone decreased to $5.0{\mu}m$

  • In this paper, we use Fuzzy Logic and Potential field method for optimal path planning of an autonomous mobile robot and apply to navigation for real-time mobile robot in 2D dynamic environment. For safe navigation of the robot, we use both Global and Local path planning. Global path planning is computed off-line using sell-decomposition and Dijkstra algorithm and Local path planning is computed on-line with sensor information using potential field method and Fuzzy Logic. We can get gravitation between two feature points and repulsive force between obstacle and robot through potential field. It is described as a summation of the result of repulsive force between obstacle and robot which is considered as an input through Fuzzy Logic and gravitation to a feature point. With this force, the robot fan get to desired target point safely and fast avoiding obstacles. We Implemented the proposed algorithm with Pioneer-DXE robot in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel navigation method combined limit-cycle method and the vector field method for avoidance of unexpected obstacles in the dynamic environment. The limit-cycle method is used to obstacle avoidance in front of the robot and the vector field method is used to obstacle avoidance in the side of robot. The proposed method is tested on pioneer 2-DX mobile robot. The simulations and experiments demonstrate in the effectiveness of the proposed method for navigation of a mobile robot in the complicated and dynamic environments.

  • This study explores on the static and dynamic growth patterns of high-tech ventures in Korea. We developed an integrative framework with target market (local vs. global), product/market maturity (existing vs. emerging), and technological capability (follower vs. pioneer). We also identified seven new ventures strategies as follows: i) reactive imitation, ii) proactive localization, iii) import substitution, iv) creative imitation, v) early market-entry, vi) global niche, and vii) global innovation. With five successful Korean new ventures, we found different competitive behaviors and performance among new venture strategic types. This study also observed two different growth patterns: growth through strategic replication and growth through strategic change. It depends on whether they are pursuing similar strategy over time or different strategy within for growth. In addition, we found that creative imitation plays a stepping-stone role in two-step internationalization processes. Although this study is exploratory and needs more empirical studies, it can provide new ventures with meaningful guidelines for growth and internationalization with a dynamic perspective.
