  • A rice mill pilot plant was designed and developed in the basis of the simulation results on the mill plants. The performance of the developed rice mill plant was evaluated, and the simulation model on the mill system was validated with the experimental data in the mill plant. The results of this study were as followings : 1. A rice mill pilot plant with the capacity of 0.5 t/h was designed and developed. 2. The hulled ratio of the mill plant was 87.3%, and the milled rice recovery and the head rice recovery of the cleaned rice were 74% and 87% , respectively. The degree of milling of the cleaned rice was 10.6% with a high polish. The intensity of the cleaned rice appeared high compared with that of the milled rice in the analysis of whiteness test using an image processing system. 3. The bottleneck, processing time, and production amount of the developed mill system almost coincided with those of the simulation of the rice mill plant. The developed simulation model of the rice mill plant was proven to be applicable to the design of a rice mill plant through experiments.

  • Rice Processing Complex(RPC) have being constructed with a rice mill plant and a facility of drying and storage to overcome problems caused by UR and to produce good quality of rice. An optimal design of a rice mill plant was required to successfully construct and operate it. The development of a simulation model was essential to the design of a rice mill plant. So, all the objectives of this study were to develop a simulation model for the design of a rice mill plant and to develop and evaluate the rice mill system. In this study the simulation model was developed to design a rice mill plant using SLAMSYSTEM, one of simulation languages. The results of this study were as followings. 1. A simulation model was developed with SLAMSYSTEM to represent the processes of a rice mill plant. The simulation model was used to design a rice mill pilot plant with the capacity of 0.5 ton per hour. The rice mill pilot plant was analyzed by the model with alternatives. 2. In the simulation the rice mill system was much influenced by the separating efficiency of a brown rice separator. Especially, the bottleneck of grain flow occurred at the buffer tank for brown rica. separator under 50% separating efficiency of brown rice separator. Hence, as the alternative simulation was conducted under 60% , 70% separating efficiency of brown rice separator, the bottleneck of the system could be minimized at the 60% separating efficiency of brown rice separator. 3. In the alternative simulation the bottleneck of the system was minimized under the hulling capacity of 1 t/h and 60% separating efficiency of brown rice separator with the capacity of 1 t/h. Under such a condition the max. weight of waiting entities at buffer tanks was less 250kg. So, the capacities of the buffer tanks were determined in the basis of simulation results. 4. The milled rice recovery and head rice recovery of the milling system were 74% and 92% in the simulation, respectively. These results of simulation almost corresponded to those of actual rice mill plants. The developed simulation model could be well applied to design a rice mill plant.

  • Increase in tensile strength of steel is important for fuel efficiency and $CO_2$ reduction. But the higher the strip strength, the more defect could be generated in hot strip mill. This study focuses on line-type edge scab. One of the causes for the defect is initial edge cracks commonly observed on a slab but their correlation has not been verified yet. Thus, the objective of this report is to verify if the edge crack is exactly the seed for edge scab. For this, we conducted pilot hot rolling test with cracked slab and compared the development of cracks and edge scabs on hot-rolled strip.

  • 현대 제지 산업은 대량생산 체제로서 광폭화, 고속화 경향으로 가고 있으며, 생산성과 품질이라는 두 가지 목표가 상존 하고 있다. 여기에 더욱 다양한 공정변수가 삽입되어 기술개발의 범위도 더욱 다양해지고 어려워지는 상황이다. 이에 당사에서는 Pilot Coater의 도입으로 현장에 직접 적용되는 많은 Mill Test의 위험을 Pilot Coater에서 사전 검증함으로써 생산성과 기술개발의 두 가지 목적을 달성하고 있다. 현장공정의 많은 공정변수들을 Pilot Coaterdp 적용함으로서 그러한 변수에 대한 검증 또한 이루어지고 잇다.

역삼투막을 이용한 제철폐수 처리 시 실리카 및 철 이온이 막 폐색에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Silica and Iron on the Fouling Tendency of Reverse Osmosis Membrane for Treating Wastewater from an Integrated Iron and Steel Mill)

  • 제철공정에서 물 사용량은 조강 생산량 당 $4.2m^3$/톤으로 많으며 폐수의 성상에 있어서 철, 망간 등 물질을 포함하고 있다. 특히 동남아시아의 일부지역은 다른 지역에 비해 실리카의 농도가 높다. 실리카는 물 재이용을 위한 막 처리과정에서 막 폐색의 주된 요인으로 작용하기 때문에 물 재이용에 있어 제한요소이다. 실리카 농도가 높은 제철폐수의 경우 철 이온과 실리카에 의한 규산제일철 형성에 의한 막 폐색 발생우려가 높다. 본 연구는 두 가지 경우에 대하여 파일럿 테스트를 실시하였다. 제철폐수 처리수의 경우 RO 파일럿 테스트는 플럭스 15.9LMH 및 18.8LMH로 112일 동안 수행하였다. 실험결과 플럭스의 변동 및 차압(TMP, trans membrane pressure)이 크게 나타났으며, 최소 투과율은 78%로 낮아 막 폐색 가능을 확인할 수 있었다. 오탁수 처리수를 이용한 RO 파일럿 테스트는 플럭스 18.8LMH로 46일 동안 수행하였으며, 철 이온 농도는 0.11mg/l으로 폐수 처리수보다 낮았다. 실험결과 철 이온 등의 농도가 낮은 오탁수 처리수는 플럭스 및 TMP의 변동이 작아 RO 막 폐색현상이 폐수 처리수보다 저감됨을 알 수 있었다. 유입수 조건이 실리카, 철 및 망간 농도가 높은 경우 MF 전처리를 통해 RO 막 폐색현상을 저감시킬 수 있었다.

활성슬러지 공정에 의한 Kraft 펄프 폐수의 독성 제거 (Removal of Toxicity from Kraft Pulp Mill Effluents by Activated Sludge Process)

  • 활성슬러지 공정을 이용하여 Kraft 펄프공장에서 배출되는 유출수에 잔류하는 만성독성의 제거가능성을 평가하기 위하여 pilot plant를 운전하였다. 독성 이외에도 폐수내의 BOD, SS, resin과 fatty acids, 색도, 그리고 AOX와 같은 오염물질의 제거효과도 측정되었다. Pilot plant는 정상상태에서 약 10주 동안 운전되었으며 운전기간 동안의 평균 F/M 비율은 0.28, 그리고 sludge age는 8.4일로 계산되었다. 평균 MLSS 농도는 4,309mg/l이었으며 이중 휘발성 물질은 57%이었다. 운전기간 동안, BOD 제거계수(k)는 $30^{\circ}C$에서 8.2/일 이었으며 BOD 제거율은 full-scale 운전시보다 3~6% 정도 낮은 84%로 나타났다. 활성슬러지 유출수의 만성독성 시험은 Dinnel 방법과 BML 방법이 활용되었으며, 시험결과 pilot plant 활성슬러지 시스템에서도 효율적인 운전을 통하여 90% 이상의 독성제거가 가능함을 알 수 있었다. Pilot plant의 진 공정을 통해서 색도와 AOX의 제거는 매우 미미하였으나 resin과 fatty acids는 뛰어난 제거율을 나타내었다.

블룸을 이용한 중형 H 형강 BDM 압연 공정 연구 (BDM Rolling of Middle Sized H-beams from a Bloom)

  • H-beams are generally produced by hot rolling composed of a Break Down Mill (BDM) and a Finishing Mill (FM). The goal of the current study was to develop BDM rolling of H300x300 beams from blooms slit from slabs. In order to manufacture H300x300 beams, the caliber design and the pass schedule of BDM rolling were proposed for a bloom instead of a beam blank. The proposed BDM caliber design and pass schedule were tested using FE-simulation and pilot tests. For the major shape dimensions, such as flange width, web height, web thickness, as well as BDM rolling loads, a comparative analysis between the FE-simulation and the pilot rolling tests was conducted. The results of FEM analysis and pilot rolling tests showed good consistency. Moreover, BDM rolling loads were predicted to be in the range of allowable rolling loads. It was concluded that the designed BDM rolling is suitable for implementation within current manufacturing capacity.

  • Kobe Steel, LTD. and Midrex Technologies Inc. jointly developed the FASTMET$\circledR$ process as a steel mill waste recycle technology in which the DRI product meets BF feed material or BOF/EAF feed material requirements. FASTMET(R) process turns value-less wastes into valuable DRI and sellable zinc oxide, and gives the solution for the steel mill wastes recycling from both economical and environmental viewpoints. During the development of the process, Laboratory, Pilot Plant and Demonstration Plant tests were carried out from 1990 to 1998. The first FASTMET(R) commercial plant began operation in April, 2000 and the second commercial plant started in April, 2001 Both commercial plants have proceeded successfully preying that FASTMET$\circledR$ is a suitable process for recycling steel mill waste and for producing DRI as an iron source.

제지폐수 처리용 미생물의 분리 및 복합 미생물제제의 개발 (Isolation of Microorganisms and Development of Microbial Augmentation for Treatment of Paper Mill Wastewater)

  • 제지폐수의 효율적인 생물학적 처리와 폐수특성에 적합한 미생물제제의 개발을 위하여 토양 및 산업폐수로부터 방향족 화합물에 분해활성이 높은 KN11, KN13 및 KN27 균주와 세포 외 섬유소 가수분해효소 생산 균주 GT21 등의 균주를 분리하였다. 형태학적, 생리학적 및 생화학적 분류를 통해 이들 분리주 KN11, KN13, KN27 및 GT21 등은 Acinetobacter sp., Neisseria sp., Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp.와 유사한 것으로 판명되어 최종적으로 각각 Acinetobacter sp. KN11, Neisseria sp. KN13, Bacillus sp. KN27, Pseudomonas sp. GT21로 명명하였다. 제지폐수 중 난분해성 물질과 COD 증가원인 물질을 분석하고자 GC/MS를 이용하여 방향족 화합물 및 그 유도체들을 검출하였다. 분리균주 Acinetobacter sp. KN11, Neisseria sp. KN13, Bacillus sp. KN27 및 Pseudomonas sp. GT21의 균체로 구성된 미생물제제 J30을 제조하여 제지폐수의 효율적 처리를 위한 연구에 사용하였다. 미생물제제 J30의 제지폐수에서 COD 제거를 위한 최적온도와 pH는 각각 $30^{\circ}C$와 7.5였으며 배양 60시간에서 최대의 COD 제거효율을 나타내었다. 실험실 규모의 pilot plant에서 미생물제제 J30의 COD 제거효율은 87%의 높은 제거효율을 나타내었다.

제지폐수 벌킹제어를 위한 미생물 적용 연구 (Studies on the Application of Microorganism to Control the Bulking of Paper Mill Wastewater)

  • The paper mill wastewater actually generating bulking was used to apply to the spot. Batch and continuous type pilots were used in this study. Optimal time after propagating generation of activated sludge in aeration basin by adding Hoc forming microorganism was 24 and 36hours while optimal time of activated sludge in original aeration basin was 60hours. Showing the difference of sedimentation velocity at 7th day after operating a pilot continuously, SV30 was decreased to 50% at 13th day. COD value in aeration basin with floe forming microorganism was 35mg/L while COD value in original aeration basin was 52mg/L. It was indicated that application of Hoc forming microorganism can control the bulking of paper mill wastewater by shortening of recovery time and improving of pollution removal efficiency.
