  • In this paper, we investigated the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb(Sb, Nb)O$_3$-Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_3$ ceramic(PSN) for piezoelectric transformer and actuator etc. Effect of MnO$_2$ addition on the PSN ceramic was investigated. Anisotropic properties of electromechanical coupling factor and piezoelectric properties proved to be varied with amount of MnO$_2$ impurity and sintering temperature. The electromechanical coupling factor k$_{p}$ of 0.38 and the mechanical quality factor Q$_{m}$ of 1944 were obtained from the specimen with 0.4 wt% MnO$_2$ sintered at 115$0^{\circ}C$ addition. Experimental results indicated that the PSN ceramic with MnO$_2$ impurity can be effectively used for piezoelectric transformer and actuator.tor.

Electrical properties of Step -Down Multilayer Piezoelectric transformer sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ Low Temperature ($900^{\circ}C$ 저온에서 소결된 깅압용 적층 압전 변압기의 전기적 특성)

  • The multilayer piezoelectric transformer was manufactured using $Pb(Zn_{1/2}W_{1/2})O_3-Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr_{0.48}Ti_{0.52})O_3$ (abbreviated as PZW-PMN-PZT) ceramics and their electrical properties were investigated. The $k_{eff}$ of the input and the output calculated from the resonant and anti-resonant frequencies were 0.403 and 0.233, respectively. The voltage step-up ratio showed the maximum value in the vicinity of 81kHz. The multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the temperature rise of about $36^{\circ}C$ at the output power of 12w.

  • In order to develop the composition ceramics capable of being sintered at low temperature with high piezoelectric properties for multilayer piezoelectric actuator application, PZW-PMN-PZT system ceramics were manufactured according to sintering aid $Li_2CO_3$ addition and their microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. The crystal structure of the specimens showed a perovskite phase and no pyrochlore or other second phase was detected. At the sintering temperature of $900\;^{\circ}C,\;0.2\;wt%Li_2CO_3$ added specimen showed a optimum values of kp = 0.562, $d_{33}\;=\;360\;pC/N$ and Qm = 1184, respectively.

  • Additions (ZnO, CuO) doped $0.98(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-0.02Li(Sb_{0.17}Ta_{0.83})O_3$ (0.98NKN-0.02LST-x) lead free piezoelectric ceramics have been fabricated by ordinary sintering technique. The effects of additions doping on the dielectric, piezoelectric, and ferroelectric properties of the ceramics were mainly investigated. X-ray diffraction of the sample appeared orthorhombic phase. The specimen doped with additions exhibits enhanced electrical properties ($d_{33}$= 153 pC/N). These results indicate that the 0.98NKN-0.02LST-x ceramics is a promising candidate for lead-free piezoelectric ceramics for applications such as piezoelectric actuators, harmonic oscillator and so on.

  • Lead oxide-based ferroelectrics are the most widely used materials for piezoelectric actuators, sensors and transducers due to their excellent piezoelectric properties. Considering lead toxicity, there is great interest in developing lead-free piezoelectric materials, which are biocompatible and environmentally friendlier. Recently alkali oxide materials, including sodium - potassium niobate (NKN), have been given attention in view of their ultrasonic application and also as promising candidates for piezoelectric lead-free system. However, it is difficult to sinter such NKN-based materials via conventional sintering process. In this reason, many researchers have investigated hot press, hot isostatic press or spark-plasma sintering of NKN-based ceramics. In this study, as candidates for lead-free piezoelectric materials, dense (Na,K,Li)(Nb,Sb)$O_3$ systems were developed by conventional sintering process. The microstructures and piezoelectric properties of the (Na,K,Li)(Nb,Sb)$O_3$ systems were investigated as a function of variable compositions. The excellent piezoelectric and electromechanical properties indicate that this system is potentially good candidate as lead-free material for a wide range of electro-mechanical transducer applications.

Electric properties of PZN-PNN-PT-PZ piezoelectric ceramics prepared by molten salt method (용융염 합성법으로 제조한 PZN-PNN-PT-PZ계 압전세라믹스의 전기적 특성)

  • The quartemary system ceramics 0.5[xPb(Zn$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_{3}$-(1-x)Pb(Ni$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_{3}$]-0.5[yPbTiO$_{3}$-(1-y) PbZrO$_{3}$ for piezoelectric actuators were prepared bv the were added to the raw materials up to 5 mole. Sintering temperature was varied form 1000.deg. C to 1200.deg. C. Sintering characteristrics, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were then investigated. Piezoelectric properties of sample prepared by the molten salt method were improved compared to those prepared by the conventional method. Addition of PZN shifted morphotropic phase boundary to more Zr-rich composition and decreased the piezoelectric properties.

Transient Response of a Crack in a Functionally Graded Piezoelectric Strip between Two Dissimilar Piezoelectric Strip (두 개의 서로 다른 압전재료층 사이의 기능경사압전재료 접합층 내부 균열에 대한 과도응답 해석)

  • Transient response of a crack in a functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) interface layer between two dissimilar homogeneous piezoelectric layers under anti-plane shear is analyzed using integral transform approaches. The properties of the FGPM layer vary continuously along the thickness. Laplace and Fourier transforms are used to reduce the problem to two sets of dual integral equations, which are then expressed to the Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. Numerical values on the dynamic energy release rate (DERR) are presented for the FGPM to show the effects on electric loading, gradient of the material properties, and thickness of the layers. Computed results yield following conclusions: (a) the DERR increases with the increase of the gradient of the material properties of the FGPM layer; (b) certain direction and magnitude of the electric impact loading impedes crack extension; (c) increase of the thickness of the FGPM layer and the homogeneous piezoelectric layer which has larger material properties than those of the crack plane are beneficial to increase of the resistance of transient fracture of the FGPM layer.

  • In this study, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of 0.5PNN-(0.5-x)PZN-xPZT system ceramics with PZT mole ratio were investigated. As the amount of PZT increases, curie temperature was increased. The maximum of dielectric and piezoelectric constant was shoun at 0.3 mole of PZT amount. As a results, we have found that the structure of ceramics with PZT 0.3 mole was morphotropic phase boundary.

  • A method to derive the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender actuator is developed here. The constitutive relations are derived from the geometry, material properties of the actuator. The very complicated constitutive relations can be easily calculated by use of symbolic function in Mathematica. The developed program can calculate the constitutive relations for the unimorph bender made by attaching a short piezoelectric beam on a longer metal beam. The program can also calculate the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender with spring at its end.

  • $(Ba_{0.85}Ca_{0.15})(Ti_{0.9}Zr_{0.1})O_3$ + 0.04 wt% $CeO_2$ lead-free ceramics were synthesized by conventional sintering process and the effect of calcination temperature on microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. Improved piezoelectric properties have been observed at $1,125^{\circ}C$ calcination temperature which show the optimal electrical properties, $k_p$~0.457, $d_{33}$~367 pC/N, $Q_m$~158 and $T_c$~$85^{\circ}C$. These results show that the piezoelectric properties can be improved by appropriate calcination temperature.
