  • This paper presents design and analysis of ultrasonic vibrator featuring the piezoelectric actuator. After describing a geometric configuration of the proposed vibrator, an analytical model of the ultrasonic vibrator is formulated by adopting liquid film pattern theory and wave theory. The dynamic analysis and geometric optimization are then undertaken using a software ANSYS. The optimization is performed by taking the amplitude of the tip displacement as an objective function. The fluid flow characteristics of the proposed vibrator are analyzed by taking three different fluids: water, silicon oil and ethylene-glycol. This is achieved using a software FLUENT.

  • The piezoelectric single crystals used in piezoelectric transformers have a problem that power transfer capacity is comparatively low due to their high input impedance. In this study, we suggest a method to improve the power transfer capacity by reducing the high input impedance of the piezoelectric single crystal vibrator by connecting a capacitance increasing circuit to the electrical terminals of the piezoelectric single crystal vibrator where the circuit is a GIC (Generalized Impedance Converter) circuit using operational amplifiers. The result of measuring driving characteristics after applying the designed capacitance increasing circuit to the $128^{\circ}$ rotated Y-cut $LiNbO_3$ crystal vibrator confirmed that the input impedance decreased by 25 %, electromechanical coupling factor increased by 30 %, and the power transfer capacity increased by about 17 to 30 times in voltage conversion characteristics.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramic ultrasonic nozzle, single-layer and multilayer ring-type piezoelectric vibrators were manufactured using PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics, And then the electrical properties were investigated. The piezoelectric vibrator were sintered at low temperature of $940^{\circ}C$. The resonant resistance decreased with the increases of the number of layer. And also, the capacitance increased with the increases of the number of layer. The mechanical quality factor (Qm) decreased with the increases of the number of layer.

  • The temperature dependence of the characteristics in a PZT-5 piezoelectric ceramic vibrator with the transverse mode was investigated in the range of $-100^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ using a thermal vacuum chamber to utilize the vibrator in aerospace industries. As the results, at room temperature, the resonant and anti-resonant frequencies had the minimum value, whereas, the dielectric constant increased linearly from about 2500 to 7500 in the given temperature range. The mechanical loss decreased linearly from 0.08 to 0.03. Through the regression analysis, the temperature dependence functions of the characteristics were derived to linear and square regression functions. Applying the functions, the input admittance characteristics of the piezoelectric vibrator were calculated, and the results showed good agreement with measured ones. It can be confirmed that this method is useful to estimate the characteristics change of the piezoelectric vibrator caused by the temperature change under the space environment.

  • All spacecraft components shall be checked for compatibility with vacuum using CVCM and TML in advance. CVCM and TML of the PZT-5 piezoelectric vibrator has to be less than 0.1% and 1.0% respectively. Also, it has less than $500ng/cm^2/hr$ of TQCM for vacuum bake-out test using high temperature and high vacuum. Thus, the piezoelectric vibrator may be employed in the vacuum environments. Finally, it can be confirmed that the characteristics change of the piezoelectric vibrator is less than 1% under vacuum environments. Also, the temperature dependency of the characteristics in the PZT-5 piezoelectric vibrator with the lateral mode was investigated in the range of $-100^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ using the thermal vacuum chamber to utilize the vibrator to the aerospace industries. As the results, at room temperature, the resonant and anti-resonant frequencies had the minimum value, whereas, the dielectric constant increased linearly from about 2500 to 7500 in the given temperature range. • In this study, in odor to develop low temperature sintering multilayer piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3$ and $Na_2CO_3$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the addition of dopant CuO and $Fe_2O_3$, respectively. The CuO added PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics improved mechanical quality factor Qm due to the acceptor doping effect. And also, $Fe_2O_3$ reacted as softner in this composition system in addition to the increase of grain size and sinterability. Taking into consideration electromechanical coupling factor kp of 0.62, dielectric constant $\varepsilon_r$, of 1275, Piezoelectric $d_{33}$ constant of 377[pC/N] and mechanical quality factor Qm of 975, it was concluded that the ceramics with the $Fe_2O_3$, added composition sintered at 900[$^{\circ}C$] were best for the multilayer piezoelectric actuator and ultrasonic vibrator application.

  • A bond graph modeling approach which is equivalent to a finite element method is formulated in the case of the piezoelectric thickness vibrator. This formulation suggests a new definition of the generalized displacements for a continuous system as well as the piezoelectric thickness vibrator. The newly defined coordinates are illustrated to be easily interpreted physically and easily used in analysis of the system performance. The bond graph model offers the primary advantage of physical realizability and has a greater physical accuracy because of the use of multiport energic elements. While results are presented is general in scope and can be applied to arbitrary physical systems.

  • This paper is concerned with a ceramic filter laminated in the order of piezoelectric vibrator/that insulator/piezoelectric vibrator, and introduces general expressions near the resonant frequency, related with electrical inputs and outputs, gain and phase difference between input and output voltages, resonant frequency, and bandwidth, when the electrodes of the output element are divided by n equi-sections. This paper also shows that those expressions describe well the related experimental phenomena when n=1.

  • In this paper, we have explained electrical characteristics of a step-down Rosen type piezoelectric transformer for AC-adapter. When the electric voltage is applied to the driving piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the longitudinal direction, then output voltage is generated at the generating piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the thickness direction due to the piezoelectric effects. Output voltage and current from a 11-layered and a 13-layered piezoelectric transformer were measured under the various conditions of loads and frequencies. We measured resonant frequency from impedance curve. It was shown from experiments that output voltage has increased and resonant frequency has changed according to various resistor loads. Output current has changed inversely proportional to resistances.
