A Research on the Renovation Situation of the Business Buildings (업무시설의 리노베이션 현황에 관한 조사 연구)

  • The functions and uses of existing buildings are not properly changing as modern life needs. As a result, the frequent reconstruction(construction after removal) of existing buildings have been done but it became more and more difficult because of strengthening of regulations and systems concerning construction. And also it has several disadvantages like lower plot ratio and site coverage than existed buildings, enormous construction cost, production of waste-construction materials and thoughtless consumption of natural resources, which gives rise to environmental pollution. Therefore renovation is brought to the fore. In Korea, many business buildings were constructed in 1960s-1970s, during the period of high growth. Such buildings needs to be repaired in whole. It is caused by the change of social, economic, and cultural conditions and deterioration of equipments. Therefore renovation meets some necessary conditions; recovery of building functions and extension of building life span. In case study, the present state of renovation in business buildings is 1) Basic safety, for example, fire prevention and crime prevention, is great important. 2) Advanced technology, INS(international news service), IBS(Intelligent Building System), and internationalization, is pursued for adapting to multimedia ages. 3) It tries to promote proficiency, and to save the energy using spatial environment and natural energy(light and sound). Also, improving comfortable level of users and installing equipments for physically handicapped person needs to be considered.

Soft-Remote-Control System based on EMG Signals for the Intelligent Sweet Home

  • This paper proposes a soft-remote-control (soft-remocon) system based on EMG signals for the Intelligent Sweet Home. The proposed system is applied to Intelligent Sweet Home which was developed to help the independence living of the elderly and physically handicapped individuals. The goal of proposed system is to control home-installed electronic devices such as TV, air-conditioner, curtain and lamp in Intelligent Sweet Home using EMG signals. Features such as VAR and DAMV having good separability performance are selected for pattern classification. FMMNN is adopted as a pattern classifier. Classification results are allowed to a developed remote control module and then corresponding infrared pulses can operate home-installed electronic devices. We concluded that EMG as an input interface for home-installed electronic devices in Intelligent Sweet Home.

  • In order to eximine the body form of the physically handicapped people, the 11 items of angle, 54 items of size and weight of the subjects were measured body silhouetter photographs and with the Martin's anthrophometeric instrument respectively. The subjects were consist of 37 boy students who are 13-19 years old and hemiplegias caused by cerebral palsy. And then the comparison between normal and paralysis sides, analysis of somatotypes with the body silhouetter photographs, ANOVA for effect of somatotype on measuring items for angles, and factor analysis for all items were carried out. The results were as follows: 1. The results of measuring are difference between normal and paralysis sides. 2. The items shown significant differences between normal and paralysis sides are diagonal anterior chest B, scapula length, armscye girth, diagonal posterior chest A, and arc of the bust. 3. The percentage of each somatotype shows the order of bending somatotype, turning over somatotype, turning over-bending somatotype, and standard somatotype in the upper body. There are significant differences between somatotypes and sternalis up, sternalis down, scapula, vertebialis, ${\alpha}$, and ${\beta}$ angles respectively. 4. From the result of factor analysis, front and back sections, length items of the upper part and the lower part from the bust line, and the upper size items at the bottom of armscye were abstracted.

  • Resistive therapeutic exercise prescription goal is to improve functional performance and capabilities through the development of increased muscular strengh endurance or power. Resistance can be applied to either dynamic or static muscle contractions. Resistive therapeutic exorcise can be carried nut concentrically, eccentrically, isometrically, isokinetically. Neurodevelopmental treatment has not resistive therapeutic exercise concept. But proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitate techniques have resistive therapeutic exercise concept with pattens and techniques. It is aid muscle contraction, motor control and increase strength. Manual muscle testing will help the therapist establish a qualitative and quantitative baseline level of strength. Manual resistance maybe applied a against controlled lengthening contraction re static contraction of a muscle. A repetition maximum is not easy to calculate and is not the most accurate method available today to measure strength before of after a resistive therapeutic exercise program. Oddvar Holten Diagram is essy to calculate and is the most accurate method available today to measure strength before of after a resistive therapeutic exercise program. Plyometric training emphasize the development of muscular power and coordination. Quick bursts of force in functional movement patterns are often necessary of a patient is to return to high-demand occupational, recreational or sports related activities.

A Research on Emotion Assessment by Touch Sensibility Flicking on Mobile Phone (터치폰 인터랙션의 Flicking에 대한 감성 터치감에 대한 연구)

  • This study was to suggest the proper level of touch sensibility for twenties while flicking touch phones. A rapid prototype of $480{\times}800$ pixel size was developed for the experiment. Participants were 20 undergraduates, not visually and physically handicapped in using touch phones. 15 different modes, with each mode changing in velocity when flicking the prototype were randomly presented to each subject. The subjects were asked to score what they felt in each mode on a 1-to-6 Likert scale. The data was analyzed by the one-way ANOVA procedure. Each mode showed significant differences in 8 representative emotions except for exclusivity feeling and fresh feeling. Each velocity mode was scaled by the multidimensional scaling technique. Then, vector coordinates in each emotion were obtained by simple regression analysis. 15 velocity modes and each emotion were joint-plotted by the MDS, PROXSCAL. The findings in this study could be basic data for studying affective touch sensibilities in multiple ways.

  • Manifestations in tuberous sclerosis such as seizure, mental retardation, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and heart problems present a number of challenges to the dentist and anesthesiologist. Lack of cooperation in addition to the severe medical condition makes dental treatment more difficult. General anesthesia is often required for mentally and physically handicapped patients undergoing extensive dental treatment. We experienced a case of dental treatment under general anesthesia in a 36-year-old male patient with tuberous sclerosis associated with ESRD and mental retardation. He was treated on an outpatient basis followed by hemodialysis without any complications.

The Halliwick Method (할리윅 치료)

  • The Halliwick method was developed by Mr. James McMillan, a Canadian engineer of fluid mechanics. In 1949 he started to teach physically handicapped girls to swim at the "Halliwick school for crippled Girls" in London. The Halliwick method has four important basic units, as is shown in Fig 1. This constribution only deals with the structures or the practical part of the method. This part is also known as the 10-point programme. Before the characteristics of the 10 points are dealt with seperately, a few general remarks about these ponits have to be discussed. Of all things happening in the water, fun is the most important one. Swimming is fun! Swimming is taught in an order McMillan describes as: mental Adjustment(M.A), balance restoratiion(B.R.), inhibition(Inh.), and facilitation(Fac.). The 10 points of structure are linked to each other as well as to the learning process as is shown in Fig 3. The Halliwick method, which was devised by James McMillan, has proved to be a very successful way of establishing the basic principles as they have described in this article.

  • Spasticity is the most troublesome problems in the management in cerebral palsy. The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of FES to spasticity. 8 cerebral palsy children were selected for this study. Assessment was carried out before treatment for obtain baseline measurement of spasticity and reassessment were carried out at after 10th., 20th. treatment sessions and 24hours after treatment. The results of this study were as following that MAS scores were significantly reduced after 10th and 20th after treatment compared with pre-treatment. MAS scores were significantly reduced after 20th compared with pre-treatment. These results indicated that FES appears to reduce significantly MAS scores and maintained 24hours after treatment compared with pre-treatment.

  • Balance can be defined as the ability to maintain the body's center of gravity within the base of support with minimal sway. Falls occur frequently in the elderly persons by the physiological change and dysfunction with age. Injuries resulting from falls include soft tissue damage and fractures of the radius, humerus, and femoral neck other consequences of falls include decreased mobility, reduced confidence, long lies (which can give rise to hypothermia, dehydration and pneumonia), and death Risk factors for falls have beau classified as intrinsic (those related to the individual) and extrinsic(those associated with environmental features), Intrinsic factors include decreased strength, visual deficits, vestibular dysfunction, and decreased vibratory sensation in the feet. Improvement of the balance related to the increased probability for fells in the elderly persons and is important for fall preventions and improvement of the living quality ef the elderly persons

Reliability of the Modified - Modified $Sch{\ddot{o}}ber$ Methods for Measuring Lumbar Flexion and Extension ROM (요부굴곡과 신전관절범위측정을 위한 MMS방법 신뢰도)

  • The primary purpose of this study was to determine the reliability of lumbar flexion and extension range-of -motion measurements obtained with the modified -modified $Sch{\ddot{o}}ber$ methods on normal and subjects with low back pain. Sixty two, aged 20 to 30 years(x = 22.0, SD = 2.07), with normal and twenty two, aged 14 to 66 years(x = 35.6, SD = 15.88) with chronic low back pain were measured by two physical therapist with 3 to 10 years (x = 6.5) of clinical experience. The therapist used the modified-modified $Sch{\ddot{o}}ber$(MMS) techniques to measure, in random order and on two occasions, the subjects' lumbar flexion and extension. For therapist 1, Intraclass correlation coefficients(ICC) for test-retest reliability for normal varied .9923, .8802(flexion, extension). and low back pain pateint varied .9950, .9313(flexion, extension). For therapist 2. ICC. for test-retest reliability for normal varied .9903, .8921(flexion, extension). and low back pain pateint varied .9843, .9551(flexion, extension). Interrater reliability for normal varied .9477, .6960(flexion, extension) and low back pain pateint varied. 9776, .7576(flexion, extension). Thus the MMS. method appears to be a reliable method for normal and patient with low back pain.
