  • During the past decade, giant magnetotransport phenomena such as giant magetoresistance (GMR) in thin films and in manganese perovskites, and, giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) in soft magnetic amorphous ribbons, have brought much interest in the basic physical understanding and their applications as magnetic recording heads and in magnetic sensors technology. Among the parameters required for the quality of a magnetic sensor, temperature dependences of GMR and GMI profiles are playing an important role. In the present work, we have studied temperature dependences of the longitudinal permeability and giant magnetoimpedance effect in $Co_{70}$F $e_{5}$S $i_{15}$ N $b_{2.2}$C $u_{0.8}$ $B_{7}$ amorphous ribbons expecting as a promising candidate in the domain of magnetic sensors.rs.rs.rs.s.

  • We develop a methodology to use the redshift dependence of the galaxy 2-point correlation function (2pCF) as a probe of cosmological parameters. The positions of galaxies in comoving Cartesian space varies under different cosmological parameter choices, inducing a redshift-dependent scaling in the galaxy distribution. This geometrical distortion can be observed as a redshift-dependent rescaling in the measured 2pCF. The shape of the 2pCF exhibits a significant redshift evolution when the galaxy sample is analyzed under a cosmology differing from the true, simulated one. Other contributions, including the gravitational growth of structure, galaxy bias, and the redshift space distortions, do not produce large redshift evolution in the shape. We show that one can make use of this geometrical distortion to constrain the values of cosmological parameters governing the expansion history of the universe. This method could be applicable to future large scale structure surveys, especially photometric surveys such as DES, LSST, to derive tight cosmological constraints. This work is a continuation of our previous works as a strategy to constrain cosmological parameters using redshift-invariant physical quantities.

  • Our society confronts a new social demand to protect the environmental equity of the people, and the green open space that is a representative public property which takes a very important role for the residents in less privileged urbane area in terms of providing amenity without requiring individual expenses additionally. This study aims to identify the current status and problems based on the environmental experiences of the actual residents, excluding the simple physical status, in relation with supplying public property of green open space, and the study put focus on the old downtown area of Jeonju-si which is a test-bed of urbane regeneration planned by the government. Residents in less privileged area evaluate the importance of green environment of park very highly as a factor to enhance their quality of life, but as they do not have well-established environmental infrastructure to back up their needs practically, they face difficulties to use such environment and show low level of satisfaction. In particular, as such characteristics appear remarkably among the least privileged urbane people in the less privileged urbane area, their dependence and expectation upon the environment of green open space is very apparent and, therefore, it is urgently needed to improve their environment for public green park area for the less privileged urbane people.

  • Aqueous mixtures of hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) system and hydrogels thereof were introduced to obtain new bioartificial materials that have excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility and enhanced rheological properties. The interactions between hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) and/or borax were investigated by rheological measurements. Preparation parameters of the aqueous mixtures were mixture composition, the degree of hydrolysis of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax concentration. From the rheological behavior, it could be deduced that the key factor of the interaction between hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) was the hydrogen bonding between them and the effect was pronounced with borax. Enhanced viscosity was observed at the composition of $20wt\%$ of hyaluronic acid solution and $80wt\%$ of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax solution. Rheological properties were influenced by the degree of hydrolysis of poly(vinyl alcohol) and borax concentration. As the degree of hydrolysis and borax concentration increased, rheological properties increased due to the increased hydrogen bonding and networking of hyaluronate aggregates. Physical hydrogels from hyaluronic acid and poly(vinyl alcohol) were prepared and the composition dependence of the gels was rheologically investigated as well.

  • [ $MgB_2$ ] films grown by hybrid physical chemical vapor deposition under appropriate growth conditions commonly exhibit columnar grain structure. The grain boundaries between adjacent columnar grains have been reported to be good flux pinning centers. In this work, we measured the angular dependence of critical current density ($J_c$) and observed the enhanced flux pinning when an external magnetic field was aligned parallel to the columnar direction. This $J_c$ was almost comparable to the $J_c$ for intrinsic pinning case up to 1 T at low temperatures, indicating that grain boundary pinning is very effective. At high fields, however, $J_c$ decreased rapidly resulting from the fact that the density of flux pinning centers provided by grain boundaries was outnumbered by the flux density.

  • The electronic structure and various physical properties of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3 have been studied from the framework of Ab-initio by the all-electron projector-augmented-wave (PAW) method, as implemented VASP (Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package). The generalized gradient approximation (GGA) with effective U (Ueff) has been used to explain the strong on-site Coulomb repulsion among the localized Ce 4f electrons. The dependence of selected observables of these materials on the Ueff parameter has been scrutinized. The studied properties contain lattice constants, density of states, and reaction energies of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3. For CeO2 and PrO2, the GGA(PBE)+U results are in good agreement with experimental data whereas for the computational calculationally more demanding Ce2O3 and Pr2O3 both approaches give comparable accuracy. This results represent that by choosing an appropriate Ueff it is possible to reliably describe structural and electronic properties of CeO2, Ce2O3, PrO2, and Pr2O3, which enables modeling of oxygen reduction reaction processes involving ceria-based materials.

  • There has been a lot of research into the essence of the smile, but so far just a few studies have been done on the relationship between personality and smile. On the assumption that smile aesthetics are closely related to individual physical condition and psychological state, this study investigated the correlation between personality factors and smile scores. The Personality Factor Questionnaire test was administered to 60 university students (male : 30, female : 30) who have no teeth missing, no experience of orthodontic or prosthodontic treatment and good dentition. Then, portraits were taken in a full smile. Esthetic smile scores were estimated by 10 appraisers who were dentists. These scores were analyzed statistically using the SAS program. The following results were obtained. 1. Personality factors of Warmth, Stableness, Surgency, Boldness, Untroubled-adequacy, Group-dependence, Relaxation, Extraversion, Low anxiety were positively correlated to the aesthetic level of smile. 2. For females, personality factors had greater influence on smile aesthetics, whereas male smile aesthetics were less influenced by personality factors.

  • We present the modeling results of deuterium fractionation of water ice, $H_2$, and the primary deuterium isotopologues of $H3^+$ in the physical conditions associated with the star and planet formation process. We calculated the deuterium chemistry for a range of gas temperatures (Tgas~10-30 K) and ortho/para ratio (opr ) of $H_2$ based on state-to-state reaction rates and explore the resulting fractionation including the formation of a water ice mantle coating grain surfaces. We find that the deuterium fractionation exhibits the expected temperature dependence of large enrichments at low gas temperature, but only for opr-H2<0.01. More significantly the inclusion of water ice formation leads to large D/H ratios in water ice (${\geq}10^{-2}$ at 10 K) but also alters the overall deuterium chemistry. For T<20 K the implantation of deuterium into ices lowers the overall abundance of HD which reduces the efficiency of deuterium fractionation at high density. Under these conditions HD will not be the primary deuterium reservoir in the cold dense interstellar medium and $H3^+$ will be the main charge carrier in the dense centers of pre-stellar cores and the protoplanetary disk midplane.

  • This paper presents the effects of a dielectric layer and an electrolyte on the driving performance of an electrowetting on dielectric (EWOD)-based liquid lens. The range of tunable focal length of the EWOD-based liquid lens was highly dependent on the conditions of the dielectric layer, which included an inorganic oxide layer and an organic hydrophobic layer. Moreover, experiments on the physical and optical durability of electrolyte by varying temperature conditions, were conducted and their results were discussed. Finally, the lens with a truncated-pyramid silicon cavity having a sidewall dielectrics and electrode was fabricated by anisotropic etching and other micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technologies in order to demonstrate its performance. The lens with $0.6-{\mu}m$-thick $SiO_2$ layer and 10 wt% LiCl-electrolyte exhibited brilliant focal-length tunability from infinity to 3.19 mm.

  • Violin bridge blank cut from maple wood with good quality has typical pattern of the radial direction in the side edge with minimal dispersion. This experimental study was designed and carried out to examine the effect of the physical and macroscopical characteristics on the compressive creep of violin bridge blank which had been imported from European manufacturer. This research arose from the idea that the maple solid wood with heterogeneous wood density and ray direction in the side edge would have uneven rheological property of violin bridge blank which is supposed to be pressed by the tension of strings. Experimentally, the compressive creep of bridge blank became smaller with the higher density of imported maple wood and showed clear density-dependence for the duration of load under the string tension of 5 kgf. Every bridge blank showed the behavior of primary creep stage(stress stabilization) having logarithmic regression creep curve with high correlation coefficient under the designed stress level. Even though the relationship between compressive creep and ray direction on the side edge of bridge was not so clear contrary to expectation, we could conclude that wood density and ray direction should be the quality decisive factors affecting the acoustical characteristics and performance of the bridge, the core member of violin-family bow instruments.
