We present a novel profile stacking technique based on optimal profile decomposition of a 3D spectral line data cube, and its performance test using the HI data cubes of sample galaxies from HI galaxy surveys, THINGS and LITTLE THINGS. Compared to the previous approach which aligns all the spectra of a cube using their central velocities derived from either moment analysis, single Gaussian or hermite h3 polynomial fitting, the new method makes a profile decomposition of the profiles from which an optimal number of single Gaussian components is derived for each profile. The so-called superprofile which is derived by co-adding all the aligned profiles from which the other Gaussian models are subtracted is found to have weaker wings compared to the ones constructed in a typical manner. This could be due to the reduced number of asymmetric profiles in the new method. A practical test made on the HI data cubes of the THINGS and LITTLE THINGS galaxies shows that our new method can extract more mass of kinematically cold HI components in the galaxies than the previous results. Additionally, we fit a double Gaussian model to the superprofiles whose S/N is boosted, and quantify not only their profile shapes but derive the ratio of the Gaussian model parameters, such as the intensity ratio and velocity dispersion ratio of the narrower and broader Gaussian components. We discuss how the superprofile properties of the sample galaxies are correlated with their other physical properties, including star formation rate, stellar mass, metallicity, and gas mass.
Radioactive iodine is a representative fission product to be quantified for the safety assessment of nuclear facilities. In integral severe accident analysis codes, the iodine behavior is usually described by a multi-physical model of iodine chemistry in aqueous phase under radiation field and mass transfer through gas-liquid interface. The focus of studies on iodine source term evaluations using the combination approach is usually put on the chemical aspect, but each contribution to the iodine amount released to the environment has not been decomposed so far. In this study, we attempted the decomposition by revising the two-film theory of molecular-iodine mass transfer. The model involves an effective overall mass transfer coefficient to consider the iodine chemistry. The decomposition was performed by regarding the coefficient as a product of two functions of pH and the overall mass transfer coefficient for molecular iodine. The procedure was applied to the EPICUR experiment and suppression chamber in BWR.
In order to reduce carbon dioxide, one of the major greenhouse gases, a new type of copolymer, poly(alkylene carbonate) has been synthesized. The alternating copolymers have been obtained from carbon dioxide and various epoxides with zinc carboxylate as a catalyst. The number-average molecular weight of the polymer is about 50,000 and polydispersity is rather broad(5~10). The polymers are amorphous, and glass-clear materials that exhibit unusually facile and clean thermal decomposition behavior. Complete decomposition with no carbon residue is observed at elevated temperature even in an inert atmosphere. Terpolymers with bulkier epoxides improve the physical properties of the copolymer with simple epoxides. The decomposition properties of the polymer provide versatile applications such as ceramic, metal, and electronic binders and lost-foam casting. Further application of the polymer for the barrier film or the plasticizer will be investigated.

SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) is an effective tool for monitoring areas damaged by disasters. Full PolSAR (Polarimetric SAR) enhances SAR's capabilities by providing specific scattering mechanisms. Thus, full PolSAR data have been widely used to analyze the situation when disasters occur. To interpret full PolSAR data, model-based decomposition methods are frequently used due to its easy physical interpretation of PolSAR data and computational efficiency. However, these methods present problems. One of the key problems is the overestimation of the volume scattering component. To minimize the volume scattering component, the OA (Orientation Angle) compensation method is widely utilized. This paper shows that the effect of the OA compensation was analyzed over landslide affected areas. In this paper, the OA compensation is applied by using the OA estimated from the maximum relative Hellinger distance. We conducted an experiment using two full polarimetric ALOS/PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite/Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar)-2 data collected over Mocoa, Colombia which was seriously damaged by the 2017 Mocoa landslide. After OA compensation, the experimental results showed volume scattering power decreased, while the double-bounce and surface scattering power increased. Particularly, significant changes were noted in urban areas. In addition, after OA compensation, the separability of the double-bounce and surface scattering components are improved over the damaged building areas. Furthermore, changes in the OA can discriminate visually between the damaged building areas and undamaged areas. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the effect of OA compensation improved the influence of the double-bounce and surface scattering components, and OA changes can be useful for detecting damaged building areas.
In this study, the effect of an unsteady flow field around a body of aerostatic/aerodynamic forces were investigated using rectangular cylinders (B/D = 2, 3, 4, 5). Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) was introduced to the analysis of the fluctuating pressure field that was measured on the stationary/oscillatory B/D=4 rectangular cylinder, and the characteristics of the proper functions with flow patterns were identified. In addition, the physical decoupling and interactions in the different co-existing flow patterns were investigated through POD. The comparison with the identified proper function associated with a particular flow pattern revealed that the Karman vortex is almost not affected by the separation bubble, but that the Karman vortex considerably interferes in the development of the separation bubble around the trailing edge. It can be considered that the Karman vortex induces the increment of the curvature of the substantial separated flow.
This study uses Diglycidyl ether of terephthalylidene-bis-(4-amino-3-methylphenol) (DGETAM), an amine hardener 4,4'-diaminodiphenylethane (DDE) and cationic catalyst N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantimonate (BPH) to make epoxy film. For analysis, 1H_NMR and FT-IR were used to verify proper synthesis, and the liquid crystallinity of DGETAM was checked using Differntial Scanning Calorimetry and Polarized Optical Microscopy. Thermal conductivity of the sample was measured using Laser Flash Apparatus. Thermal stability as well as thermal conductivity is important when used as a packaging material. Activated energy is the energy needed to generate a response, which can be used to estimate the energy required to maintain physical properties. It was obtained using the Arrhenius equation based on the data measured by isothermal decomposition using Thermogravimetric Analysis. Measurement of the thermal conductivity of epoxy films showed higher thermal conductivity when DDE was used, and it was found that thermal conductivity had an effect on thermal stability, given that it represented an activation energy similar to a film with BPH upon 5% decomposition.

This paper is concerned with nonlinear modeling and efficient numerical simulation of electrostrictive materials and structures. Two types of such materials are considered: relaxor ferroelectric ceramics and electrostrictive polymers. For ceramics, a geometrically linear formulation is developed, whereas polymers are studied in a geometrically nonlinear regime. In the paper, we focus on constitutive modeling first. For the reversible constitutive response under consideration, we introduce the augmented Helmholtz free energy, which is composed of a purely elastic part, a dielectric part and an augmentation term. For the elastic part, we involve an additive decomposition of the strain tensor into an elastic strain and an electrostrictive eigenstrain, which depends on the polarization of the material. In the geometrically nonlinear case, a corresponding multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient tensor replaces the additive strain decomposition used in the geometrically linear formulation. For the dielectric part, we first introduce the internal energy, to which a Legendre transformation is applied to compute the free energy. The augmentation term accounts for the contribution from vacuum to the energy. In our formulation, the augmented free energy depends not only on the strain and the electric field, but also on the polarization and an internal polarization; the latter two are internal variables. With the constitutive framework established, a Finite Element implementation is briefly discussed. We use high-order elements for the discretization of the independent variables, which include also the internal variables and, in case the material is assumed incompressible, the hydrostatic pressure, which is introduced as a Lagrange multiplier. The elements are implemented in the open source code Netgen/NGSolve. Finally, example problems are solved for both, relaxor ferroelectric ceramics and electrostrictive polymers. We focus on thin plate-type structures to show the efficiency of the numerical scheme and its applicability to thin electrostrictive structures.
Objectives: Socioeconomic inequality in metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains poorly understood in Iran. The present study examined the extent of the socioeconomic inequalities in MetS and quantified the contribution of its determinants to explain the observed inequality, with a focus on middle-aged adults in Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from the Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease cohort study. A sample of 9975 middleaged adults aged 35-65 years was analyzed. MetS was assessed based on the International Diabetes Federation definition. Principal component analysis was used to construct socioeconomic status (SES). The Wagstaff normalized concentration index (CIn) was employed to measure the magnitude of socioeconomic inequalities in MetS. Decomposition analysis was performed to identify and calculate the contribution of the MetS inequality determinants. Results: The proportion of MetS in the sample was 41.1%. The CIn of having MetS was 0.043 (95% confidence interval, 0.020 to 0.066), indicating that MetS was more concentrated among individuals with high SES. The main contributors to the observed inequality in MetS were SES (72.0%), residence (rural or urban, 46.9%), and physical activity (31.5%). Conclusions: Our findings indicated a pro-poor inequality in MetS among Iranian middle-aged adults. These results highlight the importance of persuading middle-aged adults to be physically active, particularly those in an urban setting. In addition to targeting physically inactive individuals and those with low levels of education, policy interventions aimed at mitigating socioeconomic inequality in MetS should increase the focus on high-SES individuals and the urban population.
In this study, we received each wood plastic composites (WPC) from three manufacturers. These WPCs were evaluated regarding their physical and mechanical properties of both before and after accelerated weathering by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The total time of exposure of the WPCs to UV irradiation was 1800 h. The water absorption, volumetric swelling and shrinkage of WPCs did not affected by UV irradiation. Among the mechanical properties, there was no significant differences in bending strength and screw withdrawal resistance of UV treated WPCs compared with those of reference WPCs. However, surface hardness of WPCs showed decrease under UV irradiation. Stereoscopic microscopy observation revealed deterioration of the surface layer polymer in all weathered WPCs by UV. Exposure of the WPCs to UV irradiation caused decomposition and disappearance of the polymer layer. From this result, we can estimate that damage of polymer by UV led to a decrease in the surface hardness of the WPCs. The wood flours retained original shape after accelerated weathering by UV irradiation.

Lattice reduction (LR) has been used widely in conventional multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems to enhance the performance. However, LR is hard to be applied to the relay systems which are important but more complicated in the wireless communication theory. This paper introduces a new viewpoint for utilizing LR in multiuser MIMO relay systems. The vector precoding (VP) is designed along with zero force (ZF) criterion and minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and enhanced by LR algorithm. This implementable precoder design combines nonlinear processing at the base station (BS) and linear processing at the relay. This precoder is capable of avoiding multiuser interference (MUI) at the mobile stations (MSs) and achieving excellent performance. Moreover, it is shown that the amount of feedback information is much less than that of the singular value decomposition (SVD) design. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme using the complex version of the Lenstra--Lenstra--Lovász (LLL) algorithm significantly improves system performance.
