  • Potassium hydroxide activated carbons were prepared from Egyptian petroleum cokes with different KOH/coke ratios and at different activation temperatures and times. The textural properties were determined by adsorption of nitrogen at $-196^{\circ}C$. The adsorption of iodine and methylene blue was also investigated at $30^{\circ}C$. The surface area and the non-micropore volume increased whereas the micropore volume decreased with the increase of the ratio KOH/coke. Also the surface area and porosity increased with the rise of activation temperature from 500 to $800^{\circ}C$. Textural parameter considerably increased with the increase of activation time from 1 to 3 h. Further increasing of activation time from 3 to 4 h was associated with a less pronounced increase in textural parameters. The adsorption of iodine shows the same trend of surface area and porosity change exhibited by nitrogen adsorption, with KOH/coke ratio and temperature of activation. Adsorption of methylene blue follows pseudo-first-order kinetics and its equilibrium adsorption follows Langmuir and D-R models.

  • Cellular Automata(CA) has been used as modeling and computing paradigm for a long time. And CA has been used to model many physical systems. While studying the models of such systems, it is seen that as the complexity of the physical system increase, the CA based model becomes very complex and becomes to difficult to track analytically. Also such models fail to recognize the presence of inherent hierarchical nature of a physical system. In this paper we give the characterization of Hierarchical Cellular Automata(HCA). Especially we analyze transition rules, characteristic polynomials and cyclic structures of HCA.

  • The study is coated tin(IV) oxide coated on the titanium substrate electrodes by electrodepositon and dip-coating method and studied about that physical and electrochemical characterization by coating methods. After titanium substrate is etched in HCl, electrodespotion is coated $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ in nitrate solution by pulse technique, dip-coating method is also used $SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ in 1;1V% HCl and coated by dipping and annealing process. tin(IV) oxide coated on titanium substrate electrodes by two coating methods are studied x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to compare physical characterization of electrode and potential window by cyclic voltammetry (CV) to observe electrochemical characterization.

  • The presented research is about characterization of Cellulose Triacetate (CTA) based Polymer Inclusion Membranes (PIMs) which incorporated the commercial extractant Aliquat 336, Tributylphosphate (TBP) as modifier and 2-Nitro Phenyl Pentyl Ether (NPPE) as plasticizer, for the preparation of the membranes. Chemical and physical characteristics of the synthesized membranes especially membrane thickness and side difference effects were investigated. Different surface structures and membrane thickness affect the extraction efficiency of membranes. Membrane extraction experiments were studied where the glass-facing surface of the membranes placed next to feed phase and the air-facing surface to stripping phase. The membrane was characterized by means of AFM, FT-IR and SEM.

  • New diagnostic techniques have been tried on the applications of chemical, physical and micro-structural methods because there was a limit to diagnose degradation in Korean Underground Residential Distribution (URD) power cables with the conventional electrical methods. In this study, non-electrical properties were carried out as such. Characterization of interface layer was analyzed by X-ray, characterization of insulator by water tree, degree of crosslinking, shrinkage as well as ${\mu}$ -FTIR, characterization of semiconductive layer by volume resistivity. Electrical properties were also performed by leakage current.

  • Sealed Interface Local Oxidation (SILO) technology has been investigated using a nitride/oxide/nitride three-layered sandwich structure. P-type silicon substrate was either nitrided by rapid thermal processing, or silicon nitride was deposited by LPCVD method. A three-layered sandwich structure was patterned either by reactive ion etch (RIE) mode or by plasma mode. Sacrificial oxidation conditions were also varied. Physical characterization such as cross-section analysis of field oxide, and electrical characterization such as gate oxide integrity, junction leakage and transistor behavior were carried out. It was found that bird's beak was nearly zero or below 0.1um, and the junction leakages in plasma mode were low compared to devices of the same geometry patterned in RIE mode, and gate oxide integrity and transistor behavior were comparable. Conclusively, SILO process is compatible with conventional local oxidation process.

  • In this paper, an experimental circuit model for an accurate high-frequency characterization of transmission line is proposed. Inherent resonance effects during measurements make it difficult to determine characteristic impedance and propagation constant at the resonance frequencies corresponding to the line length. Thus, resonance-effect-free transmission line parameter determination technique based on the physical insight and theory is proposed. Then, by using the parameters high-frequency circuit model is proposed for high-speed signal propagation characterization. The proposed frequency-variant transmission line model is verified with measurement and it can be usefully exploited in high-speed signal propagation characterization.

  • Ceramic thin films are key materials for fundamental electronic devices such as transistors and capacitors which are highly important for the state-of-the-art electronic products. Their characteristic dielectric properties enable accurate control of current conduction through channel of transistors and stored charges in capacitor electrodes. The electronic conduction in ceramic thin films is one of the most important part to understand the electrical properties of electronic device based on ceramic thin films. There have been numerous papers dealing with the electronic conduction mechanisms in emerging ceramic thin films for future electronic devices, but these studies have been rarely reviewed. Another interesting electrical characterization technique is one based on electrical pulses and following transient responses, which can be used to examine physical and chemical changes in ceramic thin films. In this review, studies on various conduction mechanisms through ceramic thin films and electrical characterization based on electric pulses are comprehensively reviewed.

  • Is university restructuring for 'reinforcing university education quality and competitiveness of higher education'? The fundamental problems of the on going university restructuring becomes crisis of university and moreover, Sports Related Departments faces huge crisis. This research analyzes university crisis and progress of Sports Related Departments. After conducting discussion about a directivity of Physical Education in university with a focus on role and direction of 'Physical Education' which is for realization of 'University''s ideal, Sports Related Departments proposed four practical tasks, which is for preventive improvement, not for prescriptive improvement. First, Effort to establish academical identity. Second, characterization strategy for each different region and university. Third, Reforming of Sports Related Departments related with prospect of the labour market. Last, Drawing up a plan for establishing Sports Related Departments' united system.
