Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between physical activity and growth indices. Methods 5963 of 12 years old adolescents were participated in the 10th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey (KYRBWS-V) project in 2014. These data was analyzed to show the relationship between physical activity and height, BMI. Results According to the Physical Activity guidelines, the mean height was higher in the each male and female group with 'moderate physical activity for at least 60 min ${\geq}7$ days/week', 'vigorous physical activity ${\geq}3$ days/week', and 'muscle-strengthening activity ${\geq}3$ days/week' compare to the group who did not. The mean BMI was lower in the male group of 'sitting for watching TV or computer, etc on a weekday < 3 hr/day' compare to group who did not. Conclusions These results showed that physical activity in adolescence is correlated to growth. Therefore, this research can be one of the reference data to show the proper physical activity is important in the growth.
Objectives: Elderly individuals with diabetes should maintain a normal body mass index (BMI) to help control their blood glucose levels. This study investigated barriers to physical activity (PA), self-efficacy to overcome those barriers, and PA self-efficacy among elderly individuals with diabetes in relation to BMI. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 56 participants. Data were collected by a questionnaire interview and direct measurements for anthropometric data. PA self-efficacy was measured using 8 questions describing different levels of PA, where participants rated the strength of their belief that they could engage in that activity. Self-efficacy to overcome barriers was measured using 10 questions capturing participants' confidence in their ability to engage in PA despite different possible barriers. Mean scores for these parameters were analyzed using the chi-square test and the independent t-test. Results: In total, 89.3% of participants had a low PA level and 58.9% had more than 3 hours of sedentary activity per day. Furthermore, 55.4% were obese and 14.3% were overweight. The mean scores for PA self-efficacy and self-efficacy to overcome barriers were $59.1{\pm}26.4$ and $52.5{\pm}13.8$, respectively. PA level was related to BMI (p<0.001; r=0.116) and sedentary activity (p<0.05; r=0.274). PA self-efficacy and age were not related to BMI. Barriers to PA were associated with PA levels (p<0.05). Conclusions: Physical inactivity was a major problem in elderly individuals with diabetes, and was correlated with higher BMI. Lower levels of PA might be mediated by sedentary activity.
Objective: This study was designed to describe the trends in body mass index (BMI) during 6 years (2002-2008) and to identify associations between these trends and the amount of physical activity of South Korean career soldiers. Method: This study targeted the 40 993 (38 857 men and 2136 women) of the 58 657 career soldiers who had undergone four (2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008) biennial medical examinations conducted by the National Health Insurance Corporation; 17 664 soldiers with missing data on height, weight, and physical activity were excluded. A linear mixedregression model was used to categorize changes in BMI due to age versus those due to amount of physical activity. Results: Career soldiers experienced significant increases in BMI compared with baseline data gathered in 2002. The increases in each age group were as follows: men aged 20-29: 1.16, men aged 30-39: 0.61, men aged 40-49: 0.05, women aged 20-29: 0.35, women aged 30-39: 0.30, women aged 40 -49: 0.26, and women aged 50-59: 0.21. However, men aged 50 or older showed significant decreases (as high as 0.5) in BMI compared with baseline data obtained in 2002. They also experienced significant decreases in BMI compared with those who reported no physical activity. The differences between baseline and final BMIs were: 0.02 for men exercising 1-2 times per week, -0.07 for men exercising 3-4 times per week, -0.19 for men exercising 5-6 times per week, -0.21 for men exercising seven times per week, -0.05 for women exercising 1-2 times per week, -0.19 for women exercising 3-4 times per week, -0.30 for women exercising 5-6 times per week, and -0.30 for women exercising seven times per week. Conclusions: Obesity in South Korean career soldiers increased markedly between 2002 and 2008, and our data showed that the amount of physical activity was inversely related to increases in BMI. Policies to prevent obesity are needed to reduce this trend.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of physical activity and depression on sleep quality among the young-old and old-old community-dwelling elderly. Methods: Participants were 216 community-dwelling older adults in Korea aged 65 or above. Data were collected using structured questionnaires with face-to-face interviews that included demographic and health-related characteristics, International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ), the Short Form Geriatric Depression Scale (SGDS) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). A hierarchical multiple regression was conducted to examine whether physical activity and depression would predict sleep quality under other controlled factors. Results: There were differences in demographic and health-related characteristics, physical activity, and depression by age groups, but not in sleep quality. In the young-old elderly, physical activity (${\beta}=-0.22$, p=.043) and depression (${\beta}=0.31$, p=.002) were significantly associated with sleep quality (F=4.46, p=.001, Adjusted $R^2=.16$). In the old-old elderly, physical activity (${\beta}=-0.29$, p=.001) and depression (${\beta}=0.41$, p<.001) were significantly associated with sleep quality (F=10.79, p<.001, Adjusted $R^2=.29$). Conclusion: These finding highlight physical activity and depression as important contributors to sleep quality in both young-old and old-old elderly.

The purpose of this study is to investigate of body mass index, body image, eating attitude, and physical activity in physical education freshman. 341 male and 254 female students were participated in this study, and filled out the BSQ, EAT-26, and IPAQ questionnaire. Based on the their BMI, normal was 67.2%, underweight was 5.4%, overweight was 17.8%, and obesity was 9.6%. The normal rates of male and female were 57.7% vs. 78.7%. The results of BSQ were indicated 48.2% of participants was dissatisfied, and the rates of male and female were 22.9% vs. 82.3%. The results of EAT-26 showed that 20.2% of participants had abnormal eating attitude, and the rates of male and female were 7.3% vs. 37.4%. 99% of participants was physically active. All variables were statistically different between gender. There was positive correlation between body image and eating attitude in male and female students, and BMI was correlated with body image and eating attitude in male students. However, physical activity was no relationship with other variables. In conclusion, physical education students had high rate of dissatisfied in body image and rate of abnormal eating attitude. In addition, the higher dissatisfied in body image was the more abnormal eating attitude. Therefore, the proper education about weight management and change of social awareness may be needed.
Background: This study was to investigate effects of flat-back posture during inhalation compared to normal posture, focusing on the expansion of the chest and the activation of neck muscles. Design: Case-control study. Methods: Thirty subjects participated in this study. Plumb line distances and Sagittal index were measured using a ruler and a laser level in the standing position to evaluate and classify thoracic kyphosis of the subjects. Chest expansion was measured using a ruler, and surface electromyography was used to measure muscle activity around the neck and shoulders during inhalation. Correlation analysis and independent t-tests were conducted to compare chest expansion and muscle activity around the neck between subjects with flat-back posture and those with normal posture during inhalation. Results: The correlation analysis showed a statistically significant positive correlation between Sagittal index and chest expansion at the level of the xiphoid process (r=.558, p<.05), and a statistically significant negative correlation between Sagittal index and activity of the upper trapezius at the onset of inhalation (r=-.368, p<.05). Independent t-test results indicated significant differences between the flat-back posture group and the normal posture group in the circumference of the xiphoid process at rest (p<.05) and in the activity of the upper trapezius at the onset of inhalation (p<.05). Conclusion: Flat-back posture influences a decrease in chest expansion and at the same time increases the muscle activity of the upper trapezius muscle at the beginning of inspiration.
Purpose: This study was designed to find differences between physical activity and health-related factors of Korean male adults. Methods: Using the 2010 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES V-1), the data of 1,876 Korean males over 30 years old who completed the Health Interview, Health Behavior Surveys and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) were analyzed. Analysis of differences in physical activity according to socio-demographic factors, physical health-related factors and psychological health-related factors was tested using the F-test and chi-square test with SPSS 12.0. Results: The high physical activity group was merely 2.5% and the moderate group was 51.4%. In each group, the study showed significant differences in age (p=.017), education status (p=.019), and economic status (p=.032) of socio-demographic factors, in body mass index (p=.003), vitamin D (p=.020) and hypertension status (p=.007) of physical health-related factors, and in recognition of stress (p=.027) of psychological health-related factors. Conclusion: These results revealed that physical activity can play an important role in nursing intervention of physical and psychological health-related factors in male adults.

This study was conducted to investigate the level of physical activity and identify factors influencing physical activity of first and second year nursing students. The participants were 234 female first and second year nursing students at one nursing college located in U city. Data were collected from September 5 to 15 in 2016 and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\breve{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. The average level of physical activity measured by the Korean version of the Godin-Shephard Liesure-Time Exercise Questionnaire was 9.09(range 0-80). According to the physical activity group classified by leisure score index, there were 25 students(10.7%) in the active group, 31 students (13.2%) in the moderately active group, and 178 students(76.1%) in the insufficiently active group. Factors influencing the level of physical activity were intention to participate in physical activity and habit to physical activity, which together explained 21.2% of the total variance in physical activity. Therefore, this study suggests that it is necessary to develop and apply a physical activity program enhancing intention and habit to physical activity for first and second year nursing students.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate possibilities for quantitative analysis using the electromyography and sonography. For better understanding, we evaluated the correlation between the pressure pain threshold and sonography, spontaneous electrical activity in trigger points located in the upper trapezius muscle. Methods: Thirty three active subjects volunteered to participate in this study (n=33). They had a palpable taut band, exquisite spot tenderness of a nodule in a taut band, spontaneous pain, referred pain, jump sign, local twitch response, and a painful limit to full stretch range of motion. We measured Pressure pain threshold, density, white area index, root mean square, and reaction. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was calculated to estimate the relationship between the pressure pain threshold and other variables including density, white area index, root mean square, and reaction time. Results: There were significant correlations between pressure pain threshold and density (r=-0.75, p<0.01), and between pressure pain threshold and white area index (r=-0.74, p<0.01). A significant correlations between pressure pain threshold and root mean square (r=-0.59, p<0.01). The significant correlation was found between pressure pain threshold and reaction time (r=-0.64, p<0.01). Conclusion: These should indicate whether quantitative analysis can be done using the characteristics of electromyography and sonography.

This study was conducted to analyze the relationship between sleep quality, stress response, physical activity and sleep hygiene in shift work nurses and identify factors influencing sleep quality. The participants were 168 shift nurses from university hospitals and general hospitals located in C city, Gyeongnam. Data were collected from March 25 to 31, 2016. The study instrument use to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Stress Response Inventory, Korean version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and Sleep Hygiene Scale. Date were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression using SPSS/win18.0. The sleep quality index was 7.35 (range 0-21), stress response was 2.20 (range 1-5), physical activity was 3986MET-min/week, and sleep hygiene was 2.73 (range 1-6 points). There were significant differences in sleep quality according to shift work experience, health status and circadian rhythm type. Factors influencing sleep quality included shift work experience, sleep hygiene, stress response and physical activity, which together explained 40% of the total variance of sleep quality. Therefore, it is recommended that sleep hygiene education be implemented as a strategy to reduce stress response, and that shift work nurses engage in a moderate level of physical activity to improve their sleep quality.
