  • In this paper, a control algorithm of a stand-alone type photovoltaic/wind/diesel hybrid power system for operation in a remote island, is proposed in detail. Power controllers are used to combine two different power outputs of photovoltaic and wind-power generations into DC output, which is converted into AC power to meet load while charging the storage battery for later use. In the event that the whole power load cannot be met by photovoltaic and wind power only, power stored in the battery cell is supplied and if even this power run out, diesel generator will be applied. Certain portion of diesel power is used to cover the load and the other to charge the battery.

  • A junction box used in a 3 kW photovoltaic power generation system plays a role in collecting and supplying the direct current voltage produced by photovoltaic modules to an inverter. It is also used for facilitating maintenance checks and protecting the module and inverter by keeping the voltage constant. As for the junction box, using it in a parallel connection creates a difference between the setup modules. In order to compensate, an inverse voltage diode is used. But the high-power created through the solar generator can be delivered to the inverter through the inverter regularly. Therefore, a component can break down due to excess heat. And consequently short circuits and electric leakage occurs. In this study, using a junction box that enabled the bypass of high electric power, it was possible to reduce heat generation by approximately 35℃ when compared to a standard junction box.

  • This paper describes technical details of Separate Excitation Inverter(SEI) application for the photovoltaic system. Depending on the output characteristics of solar cell modules, optimum control for the maximum electricity generation of photovoltaic system could be determined. New control mechanism of Separate Excitation Inverter for the Photovoltaic-Diesel Hybrid Generator was tested and examined. Results of this paper describe that maximum out of solar cell array could be obtained at two points. Therefore the two point control method was applied and verified between, the theory and the experiment.

  • This paper presents a novel adaptive control method for DC-DC converters applied in PV generator systems. We derive an state-space average model of the converter system and then propose a adaptive control methodology to enhance transient response performance for time-varying PV systems. A well-knwon Lyapunov theory is utilized for constructing our control algorithm. Numerical simulation demonstrates reliability of our control methodology and its superiority by comparison to a traditional control strategy.

  • This paper considers the alternative way to mitigate cost for REC instead of Photovoltaic (PV) panels with Energy Storage System (ESS). This study starts from an economic analysis of a 1 megawatt PV system without ESS. Several assumptions have been applied in consideration of the current domestic situation. Based on this result, the economic efficiency of PV with ESS improved. However, the reliance on government subsidies was very high. The alternative way to cover the fluctuation power from renewable energy was reviewed with economical and technical way. In case the natural gas engine applied to PV, the IRR and Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) can be improved without ESS. And if small amount of additional REC, the IRR can be improved up to investment level.

  • The solar photovoltaic power generator can get more power with the higher solar radiation quantity. However, if the higher solar radiation quantity on cell becomes high temperature, the efficiency of generate will be reduced. To install cooling system for this kind of device can be the way to solve high temperature problem on cell but another problems after install it such as increasing of solar generated quantity problem cost to install cooling system and cost to be maintained cooling system weren't discussed to practical use this system. So the present paper described about effect and commercial business possibility of cooling system. After installing a cooling system the results of experiment about 5.76[%] average annual increasing of solar photovoltaic can expect.

  • Grid-connected photovoltaic generator system requires high performance PCS(Power Conditioning System) according to the standard of 'Distributed Generation Grid-Connected Technology Standards'. This paper presents the MPPT control method which improves output efficiency through fast tracking to the maximum power point of PV and a reduced self-excited vibration. Secondly, in this paper DVR function was applied to PCS to compensate the voltage sag frequently happening for a power system. The proposed PCS control is analyzed and compared to conventional PCS operating characteristic, the various insolation and loads, and voltage sag condition through PSIM tool. It proves the utility.

  • This paper deals with the operation of a hybrid power generation system made with photovoltaic cells and piezoelectric materials. The system can produce power from the wind as well as from the sun subject to their availability. Irrespective of the largeness of their power production, the power developed by both generators (i.e., phtovoltaic cells and piezoelectric cells) were combined and stored before it was applied to a load. Especially, the AC power (current) developed from each piezoelectric generator was converted by a full wave bridge rectifier and then combined prior to its storage in a capacitor. It was observed that the system can produce a maximum output power of 6.49 mW at loading resistance of $100{\Omega}$.

  • Photovoltaic generation systems need MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control because the output power depends on the operating voltage and current. Therefore, many researchers propose various types of MPPT control methods. A new MPPT control scheme is proposed in this paper in order to realize higher efficiency with simple calculation. The line search algorithm with fibonacci sequence which is one of the optimizing method is employed for the MPPT. The line search method is modified for real-time operation. The method is verified by simulations and experiments. It is concluded that the scheme can respond fast variation of irradiance.

  • This paper presents a new adaptive converter control approach for electric motor systems whose voltage source is excited from photovoltaic (PV) power generators. First, an electric model is represented with dynamic states and output velocity of such DC motor systems. We propose a hybrid converter control law in which a state feedback control is applied as an auxiliary control framework. Moreover, control parameter estimation is derived to realize adaptive converter systems for effective control performance against stochastic PV power excitation in practice. We carry out stability analysis for such converter system by using a well-known eigenvalue theory. Lastly, numerical simulation is conducted to test reliability of the proposed converter control approach and prove its superiority in the control point of view.
