Rock is a heterogeneous material, which introduces complexity in the analysis of rock slopes, since both the existing discontinuities within the rock mass and the intact rock contribute to the degradation of strength. Rock failure is often catastrophic due to the brittle nature of the material, involving the sliding along structural planes and the fracturing of rock bridge. This paper proposes an advanced discretization method of rock mass based on block theory. An in-house software, GeoSMA-3D, has been developed to generate the discrete fracture network (DFN) model, considering both measured and artificial joints. Measured joints are obtained from the photogrammetry analysis on the excavation face. Statistical tools then facilitate to derive artificial joints within the rock mass. Key blocks are searched to provide guidance on potential reinforcement measures. The discretized blocky system is subsequently implemented into a discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) code. Strength reduction technique is employed to analyze the stability of the slope, where the factor of safety can be obtained once excessive deformation of slope profile is observed. The combined analysis approach also provides the failure mode, which can be used to guide the choice of strengthening strategy if needed. Finally, an illustrated example is presented for the analysis of a rock slope of 20 m height inclined at $60^{\circ}$ using combined GeoSMA-3D and DDA calculation.

Building information is primary source in many applications such as mapping, telecommunication, car navigation and virtual city modeling. While aerial CCD images which are captured by passive sensor(digital camera) provide horizontal positioning in high accuracy, it is far difficult to process them in automatic fashion due to their inherent properties such as perspective projection and occlusion. On the other hand, LIDAR system offers 3D information about each surface rapidly and accurately in the form of irregularly distributed point clouds. Contrary to the optical images, it is much difficult to obtain semantic information such as building boundary and object segmentation. Photogrammetry and LIDAR have their own major advantages and drawbacks for reconstructing earth surfaces. The purpose of this investigation is to automatically obtain spatial information of 3D buildings by fusing LIDAR data with aerial CCD image. The experimental results show that most of the complex buildings are efficiently extracted by the proposed method and signalize that fusing LIDAR data and aerial CCD image improves feasibility of the automatic detection and extraction of buildings in automatic fashion.

To use surveying data obtained from different sensors and different techniques, it is a pre-requite step that register them in a common coordinate system. For this purpose, we developed methodologies to register airborne photos, ALS (Airborne Laser Scanning) data and digital maps. To achieve this, conjugate features from these data should be extracted in advance. In this study, linear features are chosen as conjugate features. Based on such a selection strategy, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for extracting such features from ALS data. Then, to register them, observation equations are established from similarity measurements of the extracted features and the results was evaluated statistically. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are appropriate to register these data.
In this paper, a 3D position tracking algorithm for a moving objects using a stereo CCD cameras was proposed. This paper purposed the method to extract the coordinates of the moving objects. That is improve the operating and data processing efficiency. We were applied the relative orientation far the stereo CCD cameras and image coordinates extraction in the left and right images after the moving object segmentation. Also, it is decided on 3D position far moving objects using an acquired image coordinates in the left and right images. We were used independent relative orientation to decide the relative location and attitude of the stereo CCD cameras and RGB pixel values to segment the moving objects. To calculate the coordinates of the moving objects by space intersection. And, We conducted the experiment the system and compared the accuracy of the results.

There have been many efforts in automatic object recognition using computing technologies. Especially in the development of automated construction equipment, automatic object recognition is very important issue for the proper equipment maneuvering. 3D laser scanning, which uses (time-of-flight) method to construct the 3-dimensional information, is applied to the civil earth work environment for its high accuracy, quick data collection, and object recognition capability that will be developed by the authors in the future. The 3D earth model is also used as a fundamental information for intelligent earth work task planning. This paper presents the analysis of the 3D laser scanner market and selection of the most optimum 3D scanner for the intelligent earth work planning. As well as the hardware configuration for the automated 3D earth modeling is developed but also the software structure and detailed user interface are designed in this research. In addition, it is presented in this paper that the accuracy comparison test between TotalStation(R) which is a traditional survey tool and ScanStation(R). The accuracy test is done by relative distance measurement using known targets.
The information system fields of spatial applications have rapidly grown during the last decade in Korea. Spatial data has been produced for a variety of systems without common standards until national GIS Committee defined the data exchange formats among spatial databases in the middle of 1990's. It aimed at promoting data sharing between the different systems in similar application fields. However, a considerable number of databases built prior to the introduction of the standards are not yet standard compliant but still play the roles of the main producers/consumers in the data collection field such as early developed huge AM/FM systems maintained by governmental organizations. The strong autonomy of these databases keeps their own data models, formats and descriptions from being standardized, which leads the sharing to a more difficult stage. Sharing is another way of data acquisition with least efforts and time away from direct collection. A data clearinghouse is the core module which directs users to the relevant data resources. The contents of datasets should be described with predefined metadata standards for precise indexing. Moreover, a number of technical problems have to be resolved for the common use of data between heterogeneous spatial database systems. However, the technical issues can be covered by the present information technologies. The difficulties persist in the political/institutional issues. Institutional issues are derived from the diverse sources such as political background, governmental policies, related laws and/or regulations. The paper will firstly make an analysis of current situation in terms of Korean policies, laws and regulations, secondly abstract the institutional issues from the situation analysis, lastly present guidelines for promoting spatial data sharing in Korea.

This paper evaluated the possibility for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping by using PLEIADES images of 0.5m GSD(Ground Sampling Distance) resolution that has recently launched. Those results of check points by applying the initial RPC(Rational Polynomial Coefficient) of PLEIADES images came out as; RMSE of those were $X={\pm}1.806m$, $Y={\pm}2.132m$, $Z={\pm}1.973m$. Also, if we corrected geometric correction using 16 GCP(Ground Control Point)s, the results of RMSE became $X={\pm}0.104m$, $Y={\pm}0.171m$, $Z={\pm}0.036m$, and t he RMSE of check points were $X={\pm}0.357m$, $Y={\pm}0.239m$, $Z={\pm}0.188m$; which of those results indicated the accuracy of standard adjustment complied in error tolerances of the 1/5,000 scale. Additionally, we converted coordinates of points, obtained by TerraSAR. for comparing with measurements from GPS(Global Positioning System) surveying. The RMSE of comparing converted and GPS points were $X={\pm}0.818m$, $Y={\pm}0.200m$, $Z={\pm}0.265m$, which confirmed the possibility for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping with PLEIADES images and GCPs. As method of obtaining GCPs in unaccessible area, however, the outcome evaluation of GCPs extracted from TerraSAR images was not acceptable for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping. Therefore, we considered that further researches are needed on applicability of GCPs extracted from TerraSAR images for future alternative method.
Recently studies on application development and utilization using sensors and devices embedded in smartphones have flourished at home and abroad. This study aimed to analyze the accuracy of the images of smartphone to determine three-dimension position of close objects prior to the development of photogrammetric system applying smartphone and evaluate the feasibility to use. First of all, camera calibration was conducted on autofocus and infinite focus. Regarding camera calibration distortion model with balance system and unbalance system was used for the decision of lens distortion coefficient, the results of calibration on 16 types of projects showed that all cases were in RMS error by less than 1 mm from bundle adjustment. Also in terms of autofocus and infinite focus on S and S2 model, the pattern of distorted curve was almost the same, so it could be judged that change in distortion pattern according to focus mode is very little. The result comparison according to autofocus and infinite focus and the result comparison according to a software used for multi-image processing showed that all cases were in standard deviation less than ${\pm}3$ mm. It is judged that there is little result difference between focus mode and determination of three-dimension position by distortion model. Lastly the checkpoint performance by total station was fixed as most probable value and the checkpoint performance determined by each project was fixed as observed value to calculate statistics on residual of individual methods. The result showed that all projects had relatively large errors in the direction of Y, the direction of object distance compared to the direction of X and Z. Like above, in terms of accuracy for determination of three-dimension position for a close object, the feasibility to use smartphone camera would be enough.
When the orientations of joints are measured on a rock exposure, there are frequent cases that are difficult to approach by the surveyor to the target joints or to set up scanlines on the slope. In this study, to complement such limit and weak points, a new algorithm was developed to interpret joint orientation from analyzing the images of rock slope. As a method of arranging the multiple images of a rock slope, the multistage convergent photographing system was introduced to overcome the limitation of photographing direction which existing method such as parallel stereophotogrammetric system has and to cover the range of image measurement, which is the overlapping area between the image pair, to a maximum extent. To determine camera parameters in the perspective projection equation that are the main elements of the analysis method, a new method was developed introducing three ground control points and single ground guide point. This method could be considered to be very simple compared with other existing methods using a number of ground control points and complicated analysis process. So the global coordinates of a specific point on a rock slope could be analyzed with this new method. The orientation of a joint could be calculated using the normal vector of the joint surface which can be derived from the global coordinates of several points on the joint surface analyzed from the images.

This is the study to conduct the topographical analysis using the orthophotographic data from the waypoint flight using the UAV and constructed the system required for the automatic waypoint flight using the multicopter.. The results of the waypoint photographing are as follows. First, result of the waypoint flight over the area of 9.3ha, take time photogrammetry took 40 minutes in total. The multicopter have maintained the certain flight altitude and a constant speed that the accurate photographing was conducted over the waypoint determined by the ground station. Then, the effect of the photogrammetry was checked. Second, attached a digital camera to the multicopter which is lightweight and low in cost compared to the general photogrammetric unmanned airplane and then used it to check its mobility and economy. In addition, the matching of the photo data, and production of DEM and DXF files made it possible to analyze the topography. Third, produced the high resolution orthophoto(2cm) for the inside of the river and found out that the analysis is possible for the changes in vegetation and topography around the river. Fourth, It would be used for the more in-depth research on landscape analysis such as terrain analysis and visibility analysis. This method may be widely used to analyze the various terrains in cities and rivers. It can also be used for the landscape control such as cultural remains and tourist sites as well as the control of the cultural and historical resources such as the visibility analysis for the construction of DSM.
