To establish the efficient treatment technology of chemical cleaning wastewater from power plant, several AOPs($UV/H_2O_2,\;UV/TiO_2/H_2O_2$, Photo-Fenton oxidation) were investigated. Treatment efficiencies and the electrical energy requirements based on the EE/O parameter(the electrical energy, required per order of pollutant removal in $1m^3$ wastewater) were evaluated. TOC removal efficiencies of $UV/H_2O_2,\;UV/TiO_2/H_2O_2$, Photo-Fenton oxidation at the optimum conditions were 95.5%, 92.3%, 91.5%, respectively. The electrical energy requirements of $UV/H_2O_2,\;UV/TiO_2/H_2O_2$, Photo-Fenton oxidation were $11.26kWh/m^3,\;3.85kWh/m^3,\;0.799kWh/m^3$, respectively. From these results, it could be concluded that all of the three oxidation processes were effective for the degradation of citric acid. Considering the treatment efficiency and economical aspect, photo-Fenton oxidation was the most efficient treatment process among the three processes tested.

Photocatalysis is a photochemical catalytic reaction which is a highly promising tool for the environmental cleanup process. It is very effective in treatment of environmental pollutants by its unique redox property. It has wide applications in the treatment of atmospheric pollutants (e.g., nitrogen dioxide, trichloroethylene, volatile organics, hydrogen sulfide, benzene, etc) through oxidative removal and by disinfection (aeromicro flora). In this research, the fundamental aspects of photocatalysis are described with respect to the composition of catalysts, experimental conditions (e.g., temperature, duration, etc), and interfering factors (e.g., catalyst deactivation).
The effects of various intensity of W-B on barley seeding were investigated by PS I and II activities and chlorophyll fluorescence. The Inhibitory effect of UV-B radiation on electron transport activity was Increased as the intensity of UV-B Irradiation was increased. Especially, PS I is more sensitive to UV-B radiation than PS I is. By the addition of uncle electron donor, DPC, to the chloroplasts of the barley seedlings treated with UV-B, the photoreduction of DCPIP was recovered by only 1 IBI on electron transport activity. However, the activity of PS II was Inhibited by 45% by the treatment with UV-B, but recovered it only 11% by the addition of DPC. These suggest that other sites besides the oxidation site of PS II may be affected more by UV-B Irradiation. As the intensify of UV-B was Increased, Fo was Increased while Fv was decreased, and thus Fv/Fm was decreased. This means that photochemical efficiency was reduced. With this parameters, it might be that UV-B radiation affected adversely to around PS II.
The photochemical decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water has been carried out by photo-Fenton process. The effect of applied $H_2O_2$, $Fe^{2+}$ dose, solution pH and UV dose have been studied. The influence of constituent processes of photo-Fenton such as UV, $H_2O_2$ and Fenton has been investigated. Comparison of RhB removal was made between the photo-Fenton and $UV/H_2O_2$ process. The results obtained showed that the optimum dosage of $Fe^{2+}$ and $H_2O_2$ were 0.0031 mmol and 0.625 mol, respectively. pH 3 is found to be the optimum pH of for photo-Fenton process. pH and UV dose strongly influenced the decolorization of RhB in photo-Fenton process. The photo-Fenton and $UV/H_2O_2$ processes showed similar decolorization and seem to be appropriate for the decolorization of dye wastewater.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are considered as the precursors of atmospheric ozone and photochemical smog formation. In particular, chemical plants have produced a lot of VOCs and thus they have been forced to reduce or remove air emissions from the on-site chemical facilities. For the effective removal of VOCs produced in the chemical plants, the authors employed a titanium oxide(TiO$_2$) mediated photo-catalytic oxidation method. The initiation methods employed in this study to produce oxygen radicals for th photo-catalytic oxidation of the VOCs were Ultra-Violet(UV), Non-Thermal Plasma(NTS), and a combination of Uv and NTP. This study focused on a comparison of the removal efficiencies of VOCs as a function of the initiation method such as NTP and/or UV techniques. Removal efficiency change of VOCs as was investigated as a function of the wavelength of the UV lamp(254, 302, and 365 nm) and the degree of TiO$_2$ coating (10 and 30%). In this study, it was identified that removal efficiencies if the VOCs under the normal air environment were much better than those under the nitrogen gas environment containing small amount of oxygen. Removal efficiency by NTP technique was much better than the UV or the combination of UV and NTP techniques. In a comparison if UV wavelengths employed, it was found that shorter wavelength showed better removal efficiency, compared with longer ones. When the removal efficiencies of VOCs were compared in terms of the degree of TiO$_2$ coating, the higher TiO$_2$coating showed better removal efficiency that the lower TiO$_2$ coating

In this study, photochemical effects (OH radical formation) in the photoreactor was investigated to analyze UV-C intensity distribution. In addition, The influence radius of the UV-C lamp was measured at various dose of $TiO_2$ (Degussa P-25). The photoreactor used in this study was bath type reactor which is made by acrylic and the UV-C lamp (SANKYO DENKI, wavelength : 254 nm, Diameter : 2.2 cm, Length : 18.5 cm) was used as photo source. The maximum electric power consumption of the UV lamp was 10.5 W. The OH radical formation by UV-C was measured by KI dosimetry methods. From the results, the effective OH radical formation was occurred under the following condition. The reasonable distance of UV-C lamp is within 13 cm and the intensity of UV-C lamp should be more than 0.367 mW/$cm^2$. Moreover, the concentration of catalyst affects on the influence radius of the UV lamp.
The total mercury concentration ($Hg_T$) of surface snow samples collected along a ~1500 km transect in east Queen Maud Land was determined using inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry to address the behavior of Hg on the Antarctic Plateau. Due to the volatile nature of mercury, measures were taken against Hg loss from standard solutions by choosing appropriate container material and stabilizing agents. Glass bottles with Teflon-lined caps were superior to Teflon and polyethylene containers in protecting against Hg loss, but addition of gold chloride ($AuCl_3$) or bromine chloride (BrCl) was necessary to ensure preservation of Hg. As Hg loss was also observed in snowmelt samples, our analysis may underestimate the actual amount of HgT in the snow. Even so, the measured HgT was still very low (< 0.4-10.8 pg $g^{-1}$, n = 44) without a signal of depositional enhancement accompanying photo-oxidation of atmospheric elemental mercury in austral midsummer. Moreover, the dynamic variation along the traverse implies spatial and temporal heterogeneity in its source processes.
The chemical and photochemical decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water has been carried out by Fenton, Fenton-like and photo-Fenton-like process. The effect of applied $H_2O_2,\;Fe^{2+}$ dosage (Fenton process), $H_2O_2,\;Fe^{\circ}$ dosage (Fenton-like and photo-Fenton-like process), UV light power (photo-Fenton-like process) pH (all processes) have been studied. The results obtained showed that more than 98% of color removal was obtained for the RhB solutions in every process. However, Fenton-like process was not suitable for the color removal of RhB because Fenton-like process was required much more reagents than Fenton and photo-Fenton-like process. The Fenton and photo-Fenton-like process showed similar reagents need. Optimum pH for three processes in this study is about pH 3. The relative order of sensitivity for pH of each process was: Fenton-like > photo-Fenton-like > Fenton.
The color change of lead-containing pigments is one of the most serious diseases in watercolor, oil paintings and wall paintings. These pigments have a tendency to darken or brighten. It was proved that oxidation of lead containing pigments in the formation of brown-colored lead dioxide is a photochemical reaction under high humidity conditions. Therefore, we carried out some analogic experiments on the color change of three typical lead containing pigments ; $Pb_3O_4$, Pbo and $PbCo_3{\cdot}Pb(OH)_2$ at the conditions of illuminations under the high humidity ($2PbCo_3{\cdot}Pb(OH)_2$ R. H.). The reason for the chemical reactions are discussed and the results of these experiments are shown in some spectrograms, micrographs and X-ray micro-diffraction patterns. Important conclusions were drawn in our research. Due to the formation of brown $PbO_2$, red lead $(Pb_3O_4)$ and massicot (PbO) turned brown or dark when they were illuminated light under high humidity. We noticed that the brightening of red lead occurred d to admixture with chalk or lead white in egg yolk or linseed oil medium on exposure to light. Lead white used in oil paintings turned yellowish on dark.
In this study, photochemical advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) utilizing the Photo Fenton reaction ($Fe^{2+}+H_2O_2+UV$) were investigated in lab-scale experiments for the treatment of livestock wastewater. For the experimets, the livestock wastewater was pretreated by coagulation with $3,000mg/L\;FeCl_3$. The optimal conditions for Photo-Fenton processes were determined: pH was 5, the concentration of ferrous ion (Fe II) was 0.01 M. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide was 0.1 M, and molar ratio ($Fe^{2+}/H_2O_2$) was 0.1. The optimal reaction time was 80 min. Under the optimal condition of Photo-Fenton process, chemical oxygen demand (COD), color and fecal coliform removal efficiencies were about 79, 70, and 99.4%, respectively and sludge production was 7.5 mL from 100 mL of solution.
