Recently, interest in renewable energy is increasing due to energy depletion and environmental problems. Among them, solar energy is the most popular feature for its infinite, eco-friendly, easy to maintain and high utilization. In these solar power systems, solar cells have either a current-voltage characteristic curve or a power-voltage characteristic curve with non-linear properties. Therefore, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique is important to control this. In this thesis, we will discuss MPPT techniques using a boost converter and demonstrate their behavior using the PSIM program. Also, the MPPT control algorithm for solar energy generation will be proposed.
The conventional central photo voltaic inverters have several problems. First, shadow problem in each solar panel, and high DC voltage problem from each panel because of concentration to one central inverter. Therefore, module integrated inverter is proposed to solve these problems. The inverter should be small and cost effective. The cost and size in the inverter depend on the inductor. So the switching frequency should be increased to reduce the inductor and total size, but there is a problem in efficiency because of the losses in turn-on and turn-off. In the paper, the critical conduction mode(CRM) switching method is adopted to reduce the switching loss and interleaving method is proposed to increase the efficiency in Flyback converter. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype system rated at 200W.
This paper describes a droop control method for the autonomous operation of DC distribution system using distributed generations and energy storage. The method suppress the circulating current, and each unit could be controlled autonomously without communication system. Detailed model of wind power generation, photo-voltaic generation, fuel-cell generation and battery was implemented with the user-defined model of PSCAD/EMTDC software that is coded with C-language. The simulation and experimental results confirms that the proposed DC distribution system make it feasible to provide power to the load stably and verify effectiveness of the proposed method.
Recently, surveillance systems are widely used, and one of the key technologies in this surveillance system is to recognize and track objects. In order to track a moving object robustly and efficiently in a complex environment, it is necessary to extract the feature points in the interesting object and to track the object using the feature points. In this paper, we propose a method to track interesting objects in real time by eliminating unnecessary information from objects, generating feature point descriptors using only key feature points, and reducing computational complexity for object recognition. Experimental results show that the proposed method is faster and more robust than conventional methods, and can accurately track objects in various environments.
We analysed perovskite $CH_3NH_3PbI_{3-x}Cl_x$ inverted planer structure solar cell with nickel oxide (NiO) and spiroMeOTAD as hole conductors. This structure is free from electron transport layer. The thickness is optimized for NiO and spiro-MeOTAD hole conducting materials and the devices do not exhibit any significant variation for both hole transport materials. The back metal contact work function is varied for NiO hole conductor and observed that Ni and Co metals may be suitable back contacts for efficient carrier dynamics. The solar photovoltaic response showed a linear decrease in efficiency with increasing temperature. The electron affinity and band gap of transparent conducting oxide and NiO layers are varied to understand their impact on conduction and valence band offsets. A range of suitable band gap and electron affinity values are found essential for efficient device performance.
This paper presents a new technique for enhancing power quality by reducing harmonics in the neutral conductor. Three-Phase Four-Wire (3P4W) system is commonly used where single and three phase loads are connected to Point of Common Coupling (PCC). Due to unbalance loads, the 3P4W distribution system becomes unbalance and current flows in the neutral conductor. If loads are non-linear, then the harmonic content of current will flow in neutral conductor. The neutral current that may flow towards transformer neutral point is compensated by using a series active filter. In order to reduce the harmonic content, the series active filter is connected in series with the neutral conductor by which neutral and phase current harmonics are reduced significantly. In this paper, solar PV based inverter circuit is proposed for compensating neutral current harmonics. The simulation is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK and also an experimental setup is developed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
In this paper, the power generation efficiency of the 4 [kW] fixed-concentrated type photovoltaic power generation system and that of the 4 [kW] single axis trace type photovoltaic power generation system were compared. For that purpose, the two types of photovoltaic power generation systems have been in operation for 1 year on an experimental basis. The amounts of power generated by the two types during the months of January through December and the characteristics of their operating times during the same period have been compared and analyzed. For the study, the type with higher efficiency was selected and the following conclusions have been reached. It was shown that the amount of power generated and the average operation times during the spring months of March through May are higher that those of the summer months of June through August when more sunlight is available. The reason for this phenomenon is thought to be that as the temperatures of the solar panel surface and the surrounding environment go up, the electric current decreases.
When problems such as line fault, breakdown of a substation or a generator, etc. arise on the grid, the Microgrid is designed to be separated or isolated from the grid. Most existing DGs(Distributed Generators) in distribution system use rotating machine. However, new DGs such as micro gas turbine, fuel cell, photo voltaic, wind turbine, etc. will be interfaced with the Microgrid through an inverter. So the Microgrid may have very lower inertia than the conventional distribution system. By the way, the rate of change of frequency depends on the inertia of the power system. Moreover, frequency has a strong coupling with active power in power system. Because the frequency of the Microgrid may change rapidly and largely during transient, appropriate and fast control strategy is needed for stable operation of the Microgrid. Therefore, this paper presents a power balancing strategy in Microgrid during transient. Despite of strong power or frequency excursions, power balancing in the Microgrid can be maintained.
A detailed model of a photo voltaic array written in PSPlCE is presented in this paper. It is likely that solar cell arrays in photovoltaic system is shadowed partly by clouds, buildings. By the effects of partial shadowing, not only the output power of solar cell arrays is decreased, but also shadowed cells are reversely biased and damaged in some cases. In this paper, by analyzing the output characteristics of solar cell arrays according to various shadow patterns, we investigate solar cell arrays connection of prevention the shadowing effects to the utmost.

In recent years, natural energy has attracted growing interest because of environmental concerns. Many studies have been focused on photovoltaic power generation systems because of the ease of use in urban areas. On the conventional system, many photovoltaic modules (PV modules) are connected in series in order to obtain the sufficient DC-bus voltage for generating AC output voltage at the inverter circuit. However, the total generation power on the PV modules sometimes decreases remarkably because of the shadows that partially cover the PV modules. In order to overcome this drawback, an AC module strategy is proposed. On this system, a small power DC-AC utility interactive inverter is mounted on each PV module individually and the inverter operates so as to generate the maximum power from the corresponding PV module. This paper presents a novel flyback-type utility interactive inverter circuit suitable for AC module systems. The feature of the proposed system are, (1) small in volume and light in weight, (2) stable AC current injection, (3) enabling a small DC capacitor. The effectiveness of the proposed system is clarified through the simulation and the experiments.
