  • Phosphor layers on rear plate of PDP were formed via osmosis coating process in an attempt to improve thickness uniformity of phosphor layer and eventually to enhance luminance and its efficiency of plasma display panel. The phosphor layers were formed uniformly not only on the sidewalls of barrier ribs but also on the dielectric layer of rear plate by the process. The processing parameters affecting the thickness uniformity of the phosphor layer formed by the osmotic coating process were investigated.

  • Optical characteristics including the view angle and color temperature uniformity of LED packages with an integrated lens fabricated by compression molding method are investigated according to lens shape, lens materials, and phosphor coating methods. Four types of lens shape are designed and their optical output power dependence on the refractive index of silicone encapsulant are evaluated. Also, spatial color temperature uniformities of packages fabricated with different phosphor coating methods-direct coating on a chip vs. uniformly mixed with silicone encapsulant- are compared at various view angles. As the result, it is found that phosphor coating method is more effective on color temperature uniformity than lens shape. The maximum color temperature difference of a package with direct coating of phosphor on a chip is 1,340K according to the view angle at the color temperature of 5,000K, and that of a package with uniformly mixed phosphor is 250K, which indicates 1,090K improvement of color uniformity for the latter case.

  • In order to decrease the degradation of phosphor on anode, many kinds of methods try to do coating of phosphor powders and AI metal layer of anode phosphor, In case of direct coating of phosphor powder, thin and uniform coating process are difficult to cover homogeneous in the surface of phosphor powders and given rise to decrease the brightness, Anti-reflection-layer(ARC) with $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Y_2O_3$ showed 103[%] the enhancement of brightness in comparable with normal phosphor layer.

  • [ $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ ], a red phosphor, coated with silica nanoparticles or nanocomposites composed of silica nanoparticles and polymeric materials such as PMMA and PVP was prepared via sol-gel process. Samples were prepared from four different methods coded P1, P2, P3, and P4. P1 includes a conventional sol-gel process and a dip-coating method while P2 has the same procedure with P1 except that nanocomposites containing both silica nanoparticles and polymer prepared by sol-gel process were used as coating materials. In P3 method, phosphors were dispersed in a solution containing silica precursor, i.e., TEOS and then polymerization was performed to coat onto the phosphors surface while P4 followed the same procedure with P3 except that a solution containing both TEOS and organic monomer were used in preparing coating materials. Among various coating methods examined in this study, uniform coating of phosphor could be achieved by using method P4, i.e., phosphor surface coating in a solution containing hydrophobic monomer and TEOS. Furthermore, $Y_{2}O_{2}S:Eu$ red phosphor coated with nanocomposite composed of PMMA matrix and silica nanoparticles exhibited enhanced PL intensity and long-term stability.

$Y_2SiO_5$:Ce 청색 형광체의 표면 코팅에 따른 음극선 발광특성 (The Cathodoluminance Properties of $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce Blue Phosphor with Surface Coatings)

  • $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce was considered as blue phosphor for field emission display because it had an excellent resistance against brightness saturation. But unfortunately It hadn't a sufficient brightness to be applied to FED. In this experiment It-$In_2O_3$, MgO and $SiO_2$ were coated onto $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce phosphor in order to improve the cathodoluminance(CL properties. The coating structures were identified to be the crystalline phases of $In_2O_3$ and MgO respectively. They had fine particle-like shape and were distributed on the surface of $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce phosphor. It was found that the CL efficiency of $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce phosphors were decreased after coatings with In20:j and MgO in voltage range from 500 V to 5 kV. But the brightness of $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce phosphor was increased after coating of 5 0 2 . And also the aging test showed that $In_2O_3$ coating improved the life time of $Y_2SiO_5$:Ce phosphor.

형광체 코팅에 따른 Remote Phosphor 구조의 백색 LED 패키지 특성 평가 (Evaluation of White LED Package Characteristics in Remote Phosphor Structure Depending on Phosphor Coatings)

  • We developed a package of remote phosphor structure having blue LED chips and phosphors physically separated, and the characteristics were evaluated according to different classifications of phosphor coatings. Remote phosphor was produced by screen printing coating on glass substrate with phosphor content rated paste and heat treatment. After mounting Remote phosphor, which has been classified according to number of coatings, on top of blue LED chips, luminous flux, luminous efficacy, CCT and CRI were measured. The measurement results showed the most suitable characteristics of white LED package as a general light source when the content rate of phosphor in Remote phosphor was 80 wt.% with 3 layers of coatings and thickness over $12{\mu}m$.

플라즈마 소수성 코팅을 이용한 실리케이트계 황색형광체의 내구성 개선에 관한 연구 (Plasma-mediated Hydrophobic Coating on a Silicate-based Yellow Phosphor for the Enhancement of Durability)

  • 본 연구에서는 실리케이트계 황색 형광체($Sr_2SiO_4:Eu^{2+}$)의 신뢰성 향상을 위하여 대기압 유전체장벽방전 플라즈마를 이용하여 hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO, $C_6H_{18}OSi_2$)을 형광체 분말에 코팅하였다. 플라즈마 코팅 후의 형광체 분말특성은 주사전자현미경(scanning electron microscope), 투과전자현미경(transmission electron microscope), 형광분광광도계(fluorescence spectrophotometer) 및 접촉각측정기(contact angle analyzer)를 이용하여 조사되었다. 형광체 분말의 플라즈마 코팅 후 접촉각이 $133.0^{\circ}$(물)와 $140.5^{\circ}$(글리세롤)로 증가하여 표면이 소수성으로 변화되었음을 확인하였으며, 광발광(photoluminescence)은 최대 7.8%의 향상을 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 플라즈마 코팅 후 형광체 표면의 주사전자현미경 및 투과전자현미경 사진을 통해 낟알형상의 표면조직이 박막 코팅 층으로 덮여 있고, 코팅 층은 31~46 nm 가량의 두께로 형성되어 있음을 확인하였다. 발광다이오드(3528 1 칩 LED)에 형광체를 실장한 후 $85^{\circ}C$와 85% 상대습도에서 1,000시간 동안 신뢰성 테스트(85-85 Test)를 수행한 결과 코팅이 되지 않은 경우와 비교하여 코팅후의 형광체가 광도 저하율에서도 개선 효과를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 유전체장벽방전 플라즈마 코팅 방법은 불규칙한 입자 형태의 형광체 분말 표면을 입체적으로 코팅하여 제품의 신뢰성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법으로 판단된다.

  • Recently, remote phosphors have been reported for application to white LEDs to provide enhanced phosphor efficiency compared with conventional phosphor-based white LEDs. In this study, a remote phosphor was produced by coating via screen printing on a glass substrate with different numbers of phosphor coating. The paste consists of phosphor, lowest softening glass frits, and organic binders. The remote phosphor could be well controlled by varying the phosphor content rated paste. After mounting the remote phosphor on top of a blue LED chip, CCT, CRI, and luminance efficiency were measured and values of 5300 K, 62, and 117 lm/W were respectively obtained in the 80 wt% phosphor with 3 coating layers sintered at $800^{\circ}C$.

  • Field emission display(FED) is actively investigated in view of the development of full color flat-panel display, which can replace some cathode-ray tube(CRT). Thus, the development of new phosphors appropriate for FED is urgently needed and has been actively investigated. In this work, $SrTiO_3:Pr^{3+}$ phosphor was prepared by sol-gel method and the coating was applied by sol-gel method combined with sonication on these phosphor's surface into diluted precursor solution. It was found that very fine particles of coating material were formed on phosphor's surface. The luminescent intensity of $SrTiO_3:Pr^{3+}$ phosphor coated with $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ was considerably increased without any noticeable change in color chromaticity. The optimum concentration of coating material was found to be 1wt% and the optimum pH value of the solution was 10.

  • $Y_2SiO_5:Ce$ 형광체를 $In_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$$SiO_2$로 코팅한 후 전계 방출 디스플레이에 요구되는 음극선 발광 특성을 조사하였다. $Al_2O_3$ 코팅으로 $Y_2$SiO(sub)5:Ce 형광체의 발광 효율과 에이징 특성은 감소되었다. 한편 $Al_2$$O_3$코팅으로 형광체의 발광효율은 증가하였으나 발광스펙트럼과 색좌표는 일부 변화하였다. 그러나 $Y_2SiO_5:Ce$ 청색 형과체의 발광 효율은 $SiO_2$코팅으로 크게 증가하였으며, 또한 $SiO_2$ 코팅한 $Y_2SiO_5:Ce$ 형광체의 에이징 특성은 코팅 전에 비하여 크게 향상되었다.
