Toxic peptides from hornet venom, mastoparan and mastoparan-B were synthesized us- ing the solid phase peptide synthesis method and investigated the interaction of them with phospholipid bilayer, antibacterial activity, and hemolytic activity. Both toxic peptides could induce dye release at a low concentration in neutral liposome. The binding affinity of mastoparan-B for neutral liposome was smaller than that for acidic one. Mastoparan and mastoparan-B had strong antibacterial activity for gram-positive bacteria, but weak or potent activity for gram-negative ones, respectively. Mastoparan and mastoparan-B lysed erythrocyte very little up to 5 $\mu$M.

Apo, holo, native-type of lactoferrin showed a similar pattern of circular dichroism(CD) spectra. Lactoferrin appeared to interact more easily with negatively charged liposome than neutral liposome. Holo-type of lactoferrin showed the highest degree of leakage, whereas apo-type of lactoferrin showed the lowest level of leakage. Holo-type lactoferrin could more easily interact with phospholipid liposomes than apo-type lactoferrin, when used as an artificial membrane.

We investigated the effects of godulbaegi extracts on the physiochemical properties of biological membranes as membrane stability and fluidity employing the phospholipid liposomal membrances as a biomembrane-mimetic system. The addition of the godulbaegi extracts to the phospholipid exterted great effects stagbilized the barrier function of the liposomal membranes in proportion to the concentration of the additive and significantly increased the membranes fluidity. The values of the fluorescence polarization of 1,6-diphenyl 1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) decreased gradually as the temperature increased, and decreased abruptly near the phase transition temperature (Tm) of the liposome from gel to liquid crystalline state as usual. These results suggest that the activities of the godulbaegi extracts to enhance the stability and fluidity of the liposomal membranes have implication in their biological activities.
A study of the interaction between lysozyme and phospholipid liposomes is essential for a systematic approach for understanding the action mechanism of lysozyme. So we want to clarify the interactions of lysozyme with phospholipid liposmes. We observed that lysozyme more interacts with negatively charged liposomes than with neutral liposome. More hydroxy groups of the phospholipid was very important on that interactions. We recognized the importance of electrostatic interactions in the process of fusion induced by lysozyme. As indicated by UV/Vis experiments, leakage and fusion are two uncoupled process.

The effect of antioxidant activity of soyasaponin on the liposomal phospholipid membrane were investigated by spectrophotometry. The oxidation index and oxidation rate of ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ containing egg phosphatidylcholine (EPC) liposomes were markedly decreased in the presence of soyasaponin relative to those of purephospholipid liposmes. ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ containing liposomes delayed the oxidation of liposomes. Especially soyasaponin stimulated the antioxidant activity of ${\alpha}-tocopheroal$ in liposomes. These results indicates that soyasaponin in liposomes had some additive effect on antioxidant of ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ toward liposomes.
The stabilization effect of .alpha.-tocopherol incorporated into liposomal phospholipid membrane was investigated by fluorospectrophotometry and UV-visible spectretarded by the presence of .alpha.-tocopherol in the bilayer of liposomal phospholipid membrane relative to cholesterol-containing liposomes and pure phospholipid liposomes. .alpha.-tocopherol-containing liposomes prolonged the oxidation of liposomes-embedded heme as those of cholesterol-containing liposomes and pure phospholipid liposomes. Thus .alpha.-tocopherol-containing liposomes may be useful for the carrier systems of nutrients and drugs to phospholipid bilayer and stabilized liposomes.

In this paper, we present the improvement in low moisturizing ability and stability that existing skin softeners have due to the low oil content, by developing skin softener using nanoemulsion of phospholipid liposome, based on the properties of nanoemulsion in cosmetic formulation. In this study, two types of oil; dimethicone (DC 200/6cs) or medium chain triglyceride (MCT), and two kinds of lecithin; unsaturated or saturated were respectively applied to produce nanoemulsion. In the particle size analysis of nanoemulsion, the droplet size of nanoemulsion containing DC200/6cs and unsaturated lecithin was the smallest, and all nanoemulsion showed high stability in the measurement of zeta potential. Therefore, with the smallest particle size and high stability, moisture contents and trans epidermal water loss(TEWL) were measured using the skin softener of DC200/6cs and unsaturated lecithin contained nanoemulsion, and the measurement was compared with the non-oil skin softener and the skin softener with only small amount of oil. The results showed that the moisture content of the skin softener using nanoemulsion increased greatly than other two skin softeners, showing high hydration ability and water retention capacity, and TEWL decreased greatly, therefore preventing the evaporation of moisture from the skin. As a result, the oil content and stability of the skin softener was improved by utilizing nanoemulson based of phospholipid liposome, and it is expected to be used in various ways in cosmetic industry.
We investigated the effect of the phase transition temperature (T$_{c}$) of phospholipid in liposomes on the stability of incorporated retinol. Two kinds of phospholipid which have different T$_{c}$, L- $\alpha$ -dimyristoyl phosphatidyl choline (DMPC, T$_{c}$=22$^{\circ}$C) and D,L- $\alpha$ -dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline (DPPC, T$_{c}$=42$^{\circ}$), were used to prepare liposomes. Liposome with retinol was prepared as multilamella vesicles (MLVs) by the dehydration/rehydration method. The incorporation efficiency of retinol into liposomes prepared from DMPC and DPPC were 99.89$\pm$0.08% and 99.97$\pm$0.03, respectively. The average size of liposomes from DPPC were greater than that of DMPC. Two kinds of liposomes in phosphate buffer (10 mM, pH 7.0) were stored at 15, 30, and 5$0^{\circ}C$, and stability of incorporated retinol was analyzed. The stability of retinol in DMPC liposome was decreased, whereas the stability in DPPC liposome was increased as temperature increased, although the overall protection effect of liposome on the incorporated retinol was greater in DMPC liposomes than in DPPC liposomes.posomes.
By using the former equation (8), we modified the equation which can show the dissimilar osmotic behavior of liposome with composition change. The slope of the new equation was presented as the ratio of osmotically active volume (V$_{act}$= ) to the total volume (V$_{totel}$= $_{acl}$+ V$_{dead}$ ; V$_{dead}$ is osmotically inactive volume) of loposomes, we defined is as a Z-value, which can elucidate the dissimilarity of the osmotic activity of multilamellar liposomes with the change of phospholipid composition and the differences of physicochemical properties of liposomes. Z-value was applied for studying the physico-chemical properties of liposomal membrane. The factor that affects on the Z-value was not the lipid concentration of liposome stock dispersion but the lipid composition of liposomal membrane. As the content of dicetylphosphate, the negative charged phospholipid, was increased, the osmotic activity, represented by Z-value, of multilamellar liposome was decreased. Using the hypertonic conditions (shrinking region), Z-value steadily increased and reached a maximum at 10 mole percent cholesterol with increasing the cholesterol content.

Using fluorescence probes, 2-(9-anthroyloxy) stearic acid (2- AS) and 12-(9-anthroyloxy) stearic acid (12-AS), we determined the differential effects of local anesthetics (tetracaine-HCI, bupivacaine-HCI, lidocaine-HCI, prilocaine-HCI and procaine-HCI) on the differential rotational rate between the surface (in carbon number 2 and its surroundings including the head group) and the hydrocarbon interior (in carbon number 12 and its surroundings) of the outer monolayer of the total phospholipid fraction liposome that is extracted from synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles. The anisotropy (r) values for the hydrocarbon interior and the surface region of the liposome outer monolayer were$0.051{\pm}0.001$ and $0.096{\pm}0.001,$ respectively. This means that the rate of rotational mobility in the hydrocarbon interior is faster than that of the surface region. Local anesthetics in a dosedependent manner decreased the anisotropy of 12-AS in the hydrocarbon interior of the liposome outer monolayer, but increased the anisotropy of 2-AS in the surface region of the monolayer. These results indicate that local anesthetics have significant disordering effects on the hydrocarbon interior, but have significant ordering effects on the surface region of the liposome outer monolayer.
