  • The background of this study was the fact that the religious spaces require sacred space devices in addition to aesthetic aspects. This study began with the definition that 'philosophical phenomenology provides one of the theoretical frameworks for religious phenomenology'. Seeing that 'philosophical phenomenology has limitations in drawing out the characteristics, this study attempted to study religious spaces through the method of specialized and refined religious phenomenology for the religious spaces alone. The purpose of this study was to understand the characteristics of religious spaces and the fact that the religious spaces are divided into 'profane' domains and 'sacred' ones and to analyze the characteristics of space and light in terms of religious phenomenology through Dutch religious architect Dom Hans van der Laan's architectural projects of monasteries. The study method was to present the relationship between space and light in terms of religious phenomenology and to summarize Van der Laan's interpretational method of the religious spaces through the architect's life and architectural philosophy. The conclusion of this study was that Dom Hans van der Laan's entire works were judged to have sufficient research value in studying the religious spaces as they were all created in the special category of 'religion'. With his project, it is possible for us to study 'hierophany' as experience of space and light through the methodology of religious phenomenology. This study has significant meaning in that it introduced an architect of religious spaces and a related new view on architecture.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze and understand the life of mothers rearing children with Down syndrome and to present basic data for overcoming the difficulties of those families. For these purposes, this study made use of the phenomenological analysis and approach with a qualitative research method. The subjects of this study are 4 mothers rearing children with Down syndrome who are beyond school age. The results were as follows. First, the reason why mothers with Down syndrome children went through psychological shock and horror was the social stigma due to the unusual appearance of children with Down syndrome. Second, the isolation with in the public education system was disclosed as a factor causing much sorrow and pain. Through this, we can recognize the importance of ensuring the equal right to receive education of children with Down syndrome. Third, the period which the mother experienced most shock and confusion was right after finding out about the disability that her child has. So, we can identify the importance of early intervention providing psychotherapy and rearing service to the parents. Fourth, the crucial factor that relieved pain and pressure from mothers was social support including family. Therefore, the social support system for mothers with Down syndrome children has to be developed and strengthened. Fifth, the crucial factor that made mother grow up during rearing experience was the reestablishment of cognition about the desired role of mothers. Through this, we can identify the importance of the mental transition process to independent thinking.

  • This exploratory study investigates the use of a computational knowledge engine (WolframAlpha) and social networking sites (Gmail, Yahoo and Facebook) by 200 students at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, their "friends" and their "friends of friends" during the 2009 through 2013 school years, and how this appears to have added value in knowledge generation. The primary aim is to identify what enhances productiveness in knowledge generation in Philippine Tertiary Education. The phenomenological approach is used, therefore there are no specific research questions or hypotheses proposed in this paper. Considering that knowledge generation is a complex phenomenon, a stochastic modelling approach is also used for the investigation that was developed specifically to study un-deterministic complex systems. A list of salient features for knowledge generation is presented as a result. In addition to these features, various problem types are identified from literature. These are then integrated to provide a proposed framework of inclusive (friendly) and innovative social networks, for knowledge generation in Philippine tertiary education. Such a framework is necessarily multidisciplinary and useful for problem-solving in a globalized and pluralist reality. The implementation of this framework is illustrated in the three parts of the study: Part 1: Online lessons, discussions, and examinations in General Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, and Life and Works of Jose Rizal, for the author's students in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde; Part 2: Facebook Report analytics of students and teachers, their friends and their friends of friends via WolframAlpha; and Part 3: Social Network Analysis of the people and groups influencing the courses' scope-and-sequence in the new General Education Curriculum for Tertiary Schools and Institutions in the Philippines.

  • This study analyzed the use of the phenomenological method proposed by Colaizzi (1978) in order to understand the meaning of block system class experiences in nursing students. Furthermore, this study provides primal data to improve curriculum efficiency. The data were collected from 18 participants who were students at a nursing university in the city of G from 20th of June to 10th of July 2015. This study investigated nursing student's block system class experience. The study results show six theme clusters consisting of 'Discomfort', 'Unsystematic study', 'Holding back an urge', 'Ever intensifying relationship', 'New discovery', and 'Chance for development', 17 themes, and 42 sub themes, which are included in those clusters in 58 configured meanings. This demonstrates that nursing students could reestablish their resolve for personal betterment and realize the importance of managing time by finishing the procedure with their best efforts although they suffer from physical and psychological inconvenience due to massive amounts of learning and assignment. These results indicate the need for development of stress management and an emotional support program based on the experience of nursing students.

  • The effect of electroless Ni and Cu plating on $LaNi_5$, $AB_5$ type hydrogen storage alloy was investigated by the various electrochemical techniques such as constant current charge-discharge test, cyclic voltammeoy, and a.c. impedance spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction test were conducted for phenomenological logical analyses. Cyclic Voltammetry results show that activation characteristics, cycle life and reaction ,rate were improved through electroless Ni and Cu plating. Compared with bare $LaNi_5$ the charge transfer resistance of electrode was greatly reduced as charge-discharge cycle increases. Therefore, electroless Ni and Cu plating on $LaNi_5$ alloy tends to accelerate the early activation, increasing the cyclic lift of electrode.

  • The recent domestic violence research has emphasized an integrated approach to wife battering and child abuse to overcome separated understanding and problem-solving alternatives of the two phenomena in the past. This phenomenological study is designed to understand struggles and dilemmas of battered women and their children related to their surviving and coping with domestic violence in a mother-child relationship. In-depth interviews were conducted with ten battered women who have children and reside in shelters in Seoul and Anyang, and were analyzed by Atlas.ti(a qualitative software program) to maximize the efficiency of data analysis. Domestic violence can be transformed into and integrated with child abuse anytime, so battered women and their children share their crises and challenges related to motherliness and filial love. However, the mutual, existential meaning embedded in the mother-child relationship can be the most important sources to mobilize their life energy and resilience in their copping efforts. The social work interventions for battered women and their children should be integrated with a premise of deep understanding of the complex realities of domestic violence victims.

  • We perform kinetic simulations of diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) in Type Ia supernova remnants (SNRs) expanding into a uniform interstellar medium (ISM). Bohm-like diffusion due to self-excited $Alfv\acute{e}n$ waves is assumed, and simple models for $Alfv\acute{e}nic$ drift and dissipation are adopted. Phenomenological models for thermal leakage injection are considered as well. We find that the preshock gas temperature is the primary parameter that governs the cosmic ray (CR) acceleration efficiency and energy spectrum, while the CR injection rate is a secondary parameter. For SNRs in the warm ISM of $T_0\lesssim10^5K$, if the injection fraction is $\xi\gtrsim10^{-4}K$, the DSA is efficient enough to convert more than 20% of the SN explosion energy into CRs and the accelerated CR spectrum exhibits a concave curvature flattening to $E^{-1.6}$, which is characteristic of CR modified shocks. Such a flat source spectrum near the knee energy, however, may not be reconciled with the CR spectrum observed at Earth. On the other hand, SNRs in the hot ISM of$T_{0}\approx10^{6}K$ with a small injection fraction, $\xi$<$10^{-4}$, are inefficient accelerators with less than 10% of the explosion energy getting converted to CRs. Also the shock structure is almost test-particle like and the ensuing CR spectrum can be steeper than $E^{-2}$. With amplified magnetic field strength of order of $30{\mu}G$ $Alfv\acute{e}n$ waves generated by the streaming instability may drift upstream fast enough to make the modified test-particle power-law as steep as $E^{-2.3}$, which is more consistent with the observed CR spectrum.
