  • As ICT technology develops rapidly and social and consumer interactions require more knowledge of the technology, the interest for baby boomers' ICT technology acceptance is increasing as they age. However, previous studies have limitations as they lack a systematic and in-depth understanding of this phenomenon in which the emerging elderly population embraces emerging technology. To overcome this limitation, this study carried out a phenomenological study on baby boomers' ICT technology acceptance. In addition, since existing studies have just simply listed variables or proved the relationship between a few variables, this study aimed to find the relationship between variables by analyzing the data obtained through semi-structured interviews. Through this procedure, it was aimed to construct conceptual model which illustrates the relationships between variables so that understanding the phenomenon of baby boomers' acceptance of ICT technology with a holistic view could be possible. The ten variables suggested by Lee & Coughlin (2015) that cover multiple sides of baby boomers' technology acceptance were used. As a result, we found that there is a sequential relationship between these variables and different agents can be related to each variable in sequence. Also, from an ecological perspective, we analyzed baby boomers and their surroundings to find agents involved in this phenomenon.

  • The purpose of this study was to use phenomenological perspectives to identify the meaning and structure of the exercise experiences in patients with low back pain. The participants were 20 patients who live in one city. The patients were asked to describe their exercise experiences. With permission of the subjects, the interviews were recorded and transcribed. Colaizzi's method was used for the phenomenological analysis. The investigator analysed the data to identify and categorize themes and basic structural elements. The process of the exercise experiences in patients with low back pain has three proposed phases pre-exercise phase, exercise phase, post-exercise phase. 150 formulating meanings, 54 themes, 20 theme clusters were identified. The interview data were organized by theme clusters into 9 categories : 'difficulties with activities of Daily Living', 'Psychological Distress', 'Support', 'Effectiveness after Exercise', 'Confidence of Healing', 'Importance of Exercise', 'Exorcise Self-Efficacy', 'Control', and 'Barrier'. Since the importance of exercise and exercise self-efficacy were identified as significant factors in this study, it may be important to plan nursing interventions to assist clients to realize the exercise self-efficacy and importance of exercise. Also, continuous support from health professionals, family, and experienced persons are needed. Further strategies for reducing barriers should be devised.

  • The methodological framework of the Level 2 PSA appears to be currently standardized in a formalized fashion, but there have been different opinions on the way the sources of uncertainty are characterized and treated. This is primarily because the Level 2 PSA deals with complex phenomenological processes that are deterministic in nature rather than random processes, and there are no probabilistic models characterizing them clearly. As a result, the probabilistic quantification of the Level 2 PSA CET / APET is often subjected to two sources of uncertainty: (a) incomplete modeling of accident pathways or different predictions for the behavior of phenomenological events and (b) expert-to-expert variation in estimating the occurrence probability of phenomenological events. While a clear definition of the two sources of uncertainty involved in the Level 2 PSA makes it possible to treat an uncertainty in a consistent manner, careless application of these different sources of uncertainty may produce different conclusions in the decision-making process. The primary purpose of this paper is to characterize typical sources of uncertainty that would often be addressed in the Level 2 PSA and to provide a formal guidance for quantifying their impacts on the PSA Level 2 risk results. An additional purpose of this paper is to give a formal approach on how to combine random uncertainties addressed in the Level 1 PSA with subjectivistic uncertainties addressed in the Level 2 PSA.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe pregnant women's lived experiences of hospitalization due to preterm labor in Korea. Methods: This qualitative study adopted a phenomenological approach. Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with nine participants, over the age of 20 years, who had been hospitalized for more than 1 week after being diagnosed with preterm labor. All interviews were audio-taped and verbatim transcripts were made for analysis. The data were analyzed following Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Results: The participants' ages ranged from 26 to 36 years, and all were married women. They were hospitalized for 13.1 days on average. Five thematic clusters emerged from the analysis. 'Withstanding hospitalization for the fetus's well-being' describes women's feelings during preterm labor and their endurance during their prolonged hospitalization, rooted in their conviction that the fetus comes first. 'Endless frustration in the hospital' encompasses women's emotions while lying in bed and quietly thinking to themselves. 'Unmet physiological needs' describes participants' awareness of their inability to independently handle human physiological needs given the need for careful and limited movement. 'Gratitude for the support around oneself' reflects the support from family and medical staff. 'Shifting perceptions and accepting one's circumstances' describes accepting hospitalization and making efforts to spend their remaining time in the hospital in a meaningful way. Conclusion: The findings in this study provide a deeper understanding and insights into the experiences of Korean women with preterm labor during hospitalization, underscoring the need to develop interventions for these patients.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the essence of disabled parents' experiences of raising children. Method: Five families, which were composed with parents with physical disabilities and children, were participated into this study. One-time interview was conducted with mother of each family and it was recorded, coded, and analysed using method of Giorgi's phenomenological study. Result: Three superordinate themes, nine subordinate themes, and 22 concepts were derived. The essence of disabled parents' experiences of raising children was "disabled parents' growth with their children despite of prejudice." This represented that even though disabled parents faced with diverse kinds of difficulties, they put their heart and soul into raising their children and they encouraged their children to have their feet on the ground firmly. Finally, disabled parents went out into the world with their children. Conclusion: The current study illustrated how those stories about raising children could be interpreted from the perspective of the family relation, and suggested possible ways to support disabled parents for raising children.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of traditional korean medical doctors (TKMD) who have treated victims of sexual violence by collecting their qualitative data that cannot be obtained with statistical data. Methods : In-depth interviews were conducted with semi-structured questionnaires for each of 5 TKMDs who had experiences in treating sexual violence victims. For analysis, the interviews were recorded along with their facial expressions and actions during the interview process, and all collected data were analyzed by colaizzi's method. In each process, a 'phenomenological reduction' was applied. Results : The identity of TKMD's experience of treating sexual violence victims was structured into 25 themes, 9 theme clusters, and 4 categories. The 4 categories included 'Professionalism and sense of efficacy', 'Personal life experiences and mental trauma treatment experiences that are mutually influencing each other', 'Factors needed to increase TKMD's participation in treatment of sexual violence victims', 'Deriving the future strategy of traditional korean medicine'. Conclusions : This study derived the essence and meaning of TKMDs' experiences in treating sexual violence victims, and presented future directions of traditional korean medicine in this field. It is expected that the results of this study would be used as the basis for establishing the traditional korean medical support system for sexual violence victims in the context of the korean medical system.

  • Purpose: This study is to explore the essence of those lives who have been living with their mothers- in- law for more than 10years since their marriage by applying Van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological methodology. It consists of four steps such as concentration on the nature of lived experience, existential research, hermeneutic phenomenological reflection and hermeneutic phenomenological writing. Method: Six middle aged participants who have been living with mothers- in- law in middle size of cities were interviewed and observed with their written consent for one month from 20, April. 2000 to 20 May 2000. To expand insight by analyzing sayings, folks stories, writings, etymology of sigipsalee relevant to it were collected and reviewed. Result: Five essential themes were derived by repeated reviewing the transcription of those interview such as difficulty living with endless heart distress, feeling oppressed, feeling deeply lonely, having a stronger backing as time passes, in turn harmonizing with each other. On the basis of the five essential theme hermeneutic phenomenological writing was done as follow. Participants lived lives filled with uneasy feeling from the newly formed relationship among in laws but especially with mothers- in- law. Participants did their best to be acknowledged found that at a significant moment during family event they would be treated as strangers so that they felt isolated and alone. Mothers in laws played a dominant role in most of family decision even buying their children's clothes. Mother in laws rarely complemented them so that they felt inferior as a person. As time passes. Mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law become adjusted to this lifestyle with each other and assumed a more mature relationship which includes a mutual respect thus better harmony. Participants become to have stronger backing so that they express their opinion to mothers-inlaw. With time both of them are getting old, participants show form of pity to their mothers-in- law. Sometimes participant surprise themselves by noticing a change in their behavior to the same pattern Mothers-in-law have showed them. Conclusion: Although generalizations have limitations, findings resulting from the study will enrich family nursing knowledge and understanding the problems when living with mothers-in- law in the same house. It will give a cleared view of problems faced by middle aged korean women in the Korean patriarchal culture. Researchers have recommended to study experiences of married young adult korean women's generation and the findings compared with this study to show trends and changes.
