The purpose of this study is to explore how to make use of the light and expression methods to embody phenomenal space by considering the representation techniques and characteristics of a variety of 'Phenomenal light' in his works focused on the Steven Holl's views that thought the light as object of creating space. The process is summarized as follows: (1) Study on the relationship between light and color, Classify concept and type of phenomenal light by phenomenal color (2) Consider the characteristics and expression methods of the phenomenal light in the Steven Holl's architecture (3) Finally, organize the concepts and representation techniques of phenomenal light, and then present method to embody phenomenal space by light. According to this, the results are as follows: (1) Perceptual color by the light of the sense forms a variety of perception and texture of light and shadow according to the contrast of shades and the change of materiality, thus embodying multisensory space with the light as the medium approach that helps to experience formal and tactile senses. (2) Spatial color by the light of volume distinguishes the flow and movement of sight, and embody inducing space with the light as Atypical activity that forms atmosphere of space through concentrated or overlapped mass of light and darkness. (3) Existential color by the light of the light source visualizes the existence of the uncertain light, and embody the receptive space with the light as emotional communication that forms symbolic and psychological meaning through metaphorical phenomena of colored light.

The lobby is the space that contributes the most to conveying the first impression of an enterprise or company that is occupying a building, and enhances the quality of the urban or business environment around an office building. Transparency is the biggest change in architecture since the modern age began, and it is the most important element of the lobby expression methods. Therefore this study was an attempt to understand the expression method of transparency which is expressed in the lobby space of office buildings, and used documentary survey and field survey to analyze it. In the examination of the theoretical background of transparency to make a specific study purpose, and based on an on-the-spot probe document, an attempt was made to grasp the expression method of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency. The data collected during this investigation was studied and a correlation coefficient. A summary of the findings of this study is as follows: 1) Transparent materials does not appear often in floors. But Phenomenal Transparency material is used in the floor. 2) During the survey it was discovered that Visual Transparency was often used in the walls of each investigated building. Phenomenal Transparency materials are found less in walls than in the floors of lobbies. 3) The expression methods that appeared the most in ceilings among the Visual Transparent expression methods. In the case of Phenomenal Transparency, the highest distribution is seen in ceilings. 4) The result of the analyzation of the correlation coefficient of Visual Transparency and Phenomenal Transparency is as follows: Expression method: There is more than one expression method of transparency, 'Open Sight', 'Light Material' and 'Surface Material' methods were introduced in case of the introduction of 'Transparent Material' among Visual Transparency in office building lobby space planning. If the 'Superimposed Space' method is introduced, then the 'Ambiguous Border' or 'Dual Sight' methods are introduced.
The tendency of formalization in Contemporary Architecture deeply relies on the thought of Western Philosophy, which emphasizes the art of image perceived visually but ignores the body and perception of a human beig who uses the architecture and lives in it. On the contrary, Merleau-Ponty asserted long time ago that the world and the body are inseparably related to each other. The phenomenology is important in Architecture, since the center of thought should be taken back to the human body if a artistic meaning can be obtained by Architecture. From this point of view, the meaning of Contemporary Architecture can be renewed by the phenomenological idea of Merleau-Ponty as a means of expanding thought that overcomes the limit of formalization in Contemporary Architecture. This research aims to ream from Steven Holl's work, and show the Architectural elements that are used for preceptual experience of phenomenon and the function of those element sin Architectural space of his works. The result of study on about the phenomenal light and water in Architectural space of Steven Holl is as follows; First, in perceptional experience of phenomenon, time is an important element, which is successive and make a field that cause perceptional experience. Second, light, as a phenomenological element, acted as a means of expressing the comparison and change of light and shadow in Architectural space and showing the change of color by the diversity of time in inner space. Third, water, as a phenomenal lens, not only acted functional but also functioned as an element of sensual experience in Architectural space. It acted as an image containing time, space, just like a mirror that reflect the environment.
This paper is a research about the expression and characteristics of sense space by a phenomenological approach through body from an anthropocentric point of view. The phenomenological expression elements of sense space have been abstracted by putting the characteristics of body perception into shape through the phenomenological approach. This research aims to provide the expression and characteristics of sense space that can be applied by phenomenological elements of emotional expression, and analyze their application level by phenomenological body perception in space through corresponding examples. As a result of this research, the expressions of sense space approach - such as migration of moving lines, reiteration and segmentation of region, spatial flexibility, transferal of sense, stimulation of combined senses, symbolic abstraction of memory, perception of environment and space, time by light, phenomenal water space, time expression by surrounding environments etc. - and the characteristics of sense space according to each expression have been obtained through the phenomenological expression elements in sense space such as expansive perception by consecutive scenes, spatial and sensory experience, embodiment of place, phenomenal change by time. It aims to grope for a new approach and possibility to the embodiment and expression of sense space through the expression of sense space approach based on the phenomenological body perception.
In the 1960s, light art using neon or fluorescent lamp, etc and 'light and space art' appeared with kinetic art. Light art that is an extension of kinetic art tends to be digitalized art and focus on movement, while light and space art emphasizes psychological side and focuses more on phenomenal experience than movement itself. Light art generally tends to offer visual play, but light and space art offers not only visual play but also deep impression on audience's mind. In this paper, LED control method using sound and how color change influences people's mind are studied based on my works try to supplement shortcoming of light art. The main goal of my work is to make more effective and empathic interaction between audience and light in order to avoid cold and mechanical impressions that light art has. Based on its contents, this study seeks method to stimulate people's emotion, and suggests applying mentality on the color and sound interaction together to media art. In conclusion, it is believed that new model of media art is suggested through this study.
The dome structure has been treated in two layers among the techniques that have formed the space in Baroque architecture and the light used to be manipulated to create the openness of space and the fantasy of atmosphere. Such an expression technique has influenced on the expression of space in the architecture of New York Five in the 1960s to 1970s and the concept of multiple space embellished with various layers has appeared in the architectural concept of New York Five; meanwhile, the common meaning with the technique of double layers and the ways of phenomenal expressions that have recognized the existence of space in the Baroque period has been achieved through the light, immaterial organism. It means that the existing concept of light limited simply to the plane elements of brightness and darkness has been treated as a formative element that has defined and adjusted the visual expansion and reduction of the space Itself and special existence and has been used as an element of the media of spatial structure. In addition, these elements have been treated as another solution for the emotional aspects of space. Therefore, this study compares the plastic and formative meaning of the Baroque architecture with that of New York Five in terms of the relation between space and light and examines them; in doing so, it will give a clue to understand various and new space expression techniques to many architects and space designers who have led modern architecture.
In this research it is concentrated first of all on the attempts to reconstruct the historical context of the idea for the space design based on the natural construction and to re-appropriate il critically to the present context. Sequentially in the areas of philosophy, biology, neuroscience, and architecture it has been variously discussed on the problems about the synthesis of biology and techniques. In the context of the consilience of biology and technique Werner Nachtigall, who has intended to shed light on the morphological principles in the natural construction, founded the 'Bionik', which is different from the bionics or the biomechanics that are oriented to the imitation of natural forms. The space design that is on the basis of the Bionik treats organisms as a functional whole. Therefore the Bionik space design follows two kinds of principle such as the principle of analogy and the principle of optimization. After all the understanding of the consilience of nature and technique for Nachtigall and Bionik designers tends toward the explication of the complex process in which the human perceptions, the environment, and the phenomenal techniques are united together, and this complex process is associated with the space design based on the Bionik.
Religious Though includes desirable attitudes towards existence of human beings and the value of life. These can be considered as the viewpoint of human being in religions. Also, the recognition frame of human being should be focused on the desirable human formation. That is, human being should not be viewed by already established frames, but human beings should be regarded as the ones that by themselves can build their true figures through developing human nature with the self-awareness of existence and the effort for establishing an ideal character. Without the correct concept of a 'human model', it is impossible to shed light on what the process of the human formation is and how the human formation willbe established. A 'human model', that is the goal of such a formation, might show different aspects if considering the historical situations including the circumstance of individuals and society. However, no matter how different 'human model', which are dependent upon phenomenal problems, are considered, it might most likely fails to grasp a fundamental issue without a 'human model' based on the essential problem of human being. In this regards, it can be considered that a 'Perfect person' with including both fundamental ways and relations of existence is the one enabling to establish a true 'human model' and, I try to show its striking example, 'Injon' that is an ideal 'human model' of Daesoon Thought. Therefore, this paper will show the interpretation and understanding of human beings in Daesoon Thought, and examine what their meanings are.
It is becoming more and more important to develop safety-critical systems with special attention. Examples of the safety-critical systems include the mass transportation systems such as high speed trains, airplanes, ships and so forth. Safety critical issues can also exist in the development of atomic power plants that are attracting a great deal of attention recently as oil prices are sky-rocketing. Note that the safety-critical systems are in general large-scale and very complex for which case the effects of adopting the systems engineering (SE) approach has been quite phenomenal. Furthermore, safety-critical requirements should necessarily be realized in the design phase and be effectively maintained thereafter. In light of these comments, we have considered our approach to developing safety-critical systems to be based on the method combining the systems engineering and safety management processes. To do so, we have developed a design environment by constructing a whole life cycle model in two steps. In the first step, the integrated process model was developed by integrating the SE (ISO/IEC 15283) and systems safety (e.g., hazard analysis) activities and implemented in a computer-aided SE tool environment. The model was represented by three hierarchical levels: the life-cycle level, the process level, and the activity level. As a result, one can see from the model when and how the required SE and safety processes have to be carried out concurrently and iterately. Finally, the design environment was verified by the computer simulation.
The purpose of this study is to approach to the phenomenological point of view to explore a design method for providing a variety of spatial experience of the viewer according to the functional changes of the modern museum architecture. For that, this study intends to analysis and consider the Steven Holl's Museum applied to the phenomenological perception for architectural design. The method of this study is summarized as follows: 1) Consider the spatial role and function of the Museum Architecture in the phenomenological approach 2) Study on the phenomenological architectural concepts and expressional method of Steven Holl 3) Finally, propose the utilization for the experiential space that is required to implement the contemporary museum architecture. The results of this study are as follows: 1) Steven Holl's phenomenological architectural concept is the basis of the perception and awareness and has connotations of temporality and it is figured out by the approach to the environment, sense and motion. 2) Steven Holl implement the architecture as a place of experience by connecting between the place and the environment through the development of a variety of scenes and situations and planning the phenomenon of multisensory space. 3) The spatial experience appeared in Steven Holl's museum architecture is implemented through the diversity of the scene, the persistence of the situation, the autonomy of light and color, transparency of the haptic and the potential of the material and geometry.
