  • Anti-lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antibody administration has the potential benefits of neutralizing and consequently controlling rumen-derived LPS during subacute ruminal acidosis. Four Holstein bulls were used in this crossover study with a 2-week wash-out period. Anti-LPS antibody (0 or 4 g) was administered once daily for 14 days. Significantly lower ruminal LPS and higher 1-h mean ruminal pH were identified in the 4 g group. However, blood metabolites, acute-phase proteins, cytokines, and hepatic transcriptomes were not different between the two groups. Therefore, anti-LPS antibody administration mitigated ruminal LPS release and pH depression without accompanying responses in acute-phase inflammation or hepatic transcriptomic expression.

  • This work is an attempt to design a dynamic model for a non local bio-thermoelastic medium with diffusion. The system of governing equations are formulated in terms of displacement vector field, chemical potential and the tissue temperature in the context of non local dual phase lag (NL DPL) theories of heat conduction and mass diffusion. Based on this considered model, we study the fundamental solution and propagation of plane harmonic waves in tissues. In order to analyze the behavior of the NL DPL model, we construct basic theorem in the terms of elementary function which determine the existence of three longitudinal and one transverse wave. The effects of various parameters on the characteristics of waves i.e., phase velocity and attenuation coefficients are elaborated by plotting various figures of physical quantities in the later part of the paper.

  • It has been studied that galaxies evolve following a typical trajectory on the phase space under the influence of deep gravitational potential of galaxy clusters. Similarly, the large-scale filaments could also affect the evolution of galaxies before falling into the clusters. In this study, using a dark matter-only cosmological simulation, N-Cluster Run, we explore the evolution of galaxies on the phase space drien by large-scale filaments. We find that galaxies around the filaments form a common trajectory on the phase space as well as cluster galaxies do. We also examine how these trajectories change depending on various physical parameters such as galaxy mass, initial distance of galaxies from large-scale filaments, and cluster mass.

  • Small molecule conjugated peptides were prepared by solid-phase synthesis as potential novel whitening agents, and their melanogenesis inhibitory activities were investigated. The conjugated small molecules were well-known materials as tyrosinase inhibitors, and peptides were selected from the sequences that are known to antagonize melanocortin receptor 1 (MC1R). Most of small molecules-peptide conjugates showed superior melanin inhibition activity to kojic acid and arbutin. Among these, almost all compounds have -AR- sequence. From this study, we concluded that the small molecule conjugated peptides containing -AR- sequence have melanogenesis inhibitory activities and have potential to be used as novel whitening agents.

  • To provide a development strategy on the method which assesses a potential risk of nationwide emerging IT infrastructure in planning and design phase, and to classify the assessment result into 5 levels is the goal of this research. The development strategy provided in this paper could improve a benefit-cost-ratio of investments on emerging IT infrastructure. With a premature assessment of the potential risks of a nationwide emerging IT infrastructure which needs astronomical amount of public funds, it could show a way of systematic investments on security systems and improve a benefit-cost-ratio of investments on emerging IT infrastructure. Also, this approach might improve the safety of nationwide IT infrastructure. It could identify and provide an optimized solution for the potential risks of nationwide IT infrastructure.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic property of ground overvoltage relay in large turbine generator. Relay operation is based on detecting the fundamental voltages originating from the generator. Calculations of fault voltage and current are reviewed for the neutral ground resistance. The frequency, ampitude and waveform of individual harmonics were measured using power quality analyzer and memory hi-corder at the secondary side of ground potential transformer. The ac and dc high-potential tests were applied to evaluate the condition of generator, main and auxiliary transformer, isolated phase bus, potential transformer, surge capacitor and arrester.

  • Based on the potential cancer chemoprebentive activity of resveratrol, a trihydroxystilbene with the induction of quinone reductase activeity this study was designed to determine if stilbene-related compounds were inducers of phase ll detoxifying metabolic enzyme quinone reductase (QR) in the mouse hepatoma Hepa 1c1c7 cells. Among the thirteen compounds tested, several compounds including 3,4,5,3',5'-pentamethoxy-trans-stibene were found to potentially induce QR activity in this cell line. In addition, substitution with 3-thiofurane ring instead of phenyl ring in the stilbene skeleton also exhibited potential induction of QR activity. This result will give primary information to design the potential inducers of QR activity in the stilbene analogs.

  • A continuous potential pulse is applied to a silver-working electrode on a pulsed amperometric detector (PAD) for detection of free cyanide and sulfide. The moving phase is 0.1 M sodium hydroxide, 0.5 M sodium acetate and 5% (v/v) ethylenediamine mixture, and the flow rate is 0.7 mL/min. Optimized pulse conditions include a -200 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) detection potential(Ed) for 60 msec and 50 mV cleaning potential (Ec) for 120 msec. The silver working electrode surface is not poisoned by cyanide or sulfide, and the PAD maintains long-term stability without loss of sensitivity and reproducibility at these pulse conditions. The detection limit of cyanide and sulfide separated by ion chromatography using an anion exchange column is 0.1 ppm and 0.05 ppm, respectively.

  • Using mixed nonionic surfactants Span/Tween, we investigated the effects of HLB value on the O/W emulsion stability and rheological behaviors. In this study, MS-01 (Span 60 & Tween 60) and MS-02 (Span 80 & Tween 80) was used as mixed nonionic surfactants. We considered required HLB value 10.85 and selected corresponding HLB value range 8-13. The droplet size distributions, droplet morphology, rheological properties, zeta-potential and creaming index of the emulsion samples were obtained to understand the mechanism and interaction of droplets in O/W emulsion. The results indicated that optimal HLB number for O/W emulsions was 10.8 and 10.7, while using MS-01 surfactant and MS-02 surfactant respectively. MS-01 (HLB = 10.8) sample and MS-02 (HLB = 10.7) sample showed smallest droplet size and highest zeta-potential value. Rheological properties are measured to understand rheological behaviors of emulsion samples. All emulsion samples showed no phase separation until 30 days storage time at $25^{\circ}C$.
