An experimental investigation is conducted to measure phase change temperature and supercooling when acetone is added to TMA 30 wt% clathrate during cooling process in heat source. Also rate of volume change is investigated when acetone is added to TMA 30 wt% clathrate during the cooling process in heat source -8$^{\circ}C$. The results show that phase change temperature is about 4.5~5.5$^{\circ}C$ when acetone is added to TMA 30 wt% clathrate during the cooling process for heat sink temperature of -6, -7$^{\circ}C$ and -8$^{\circ}C$. Supercooling is repressed about 2~1$0^{\circ}C$ when 0.08 wt% acetone is added to it and rate of volume change is decreased about 2.9% when 0.1 wt% acetone is added for the heat sink temperature of -8$^{\circ}C$.
A finite element method is developed for calculating the temperature and enthalpy distribution and accordingly the solid, liquid and mushy zone in a three-dimensional body subjected to any heat boundary conditions. The method concurrently consider both temperature and enthalpy for consideration of the latent heat effect, differently from other methods of using a special energy balance equation for solving a mushy zone. The developed brick element has eight nodes with one degree of freedom at each node. The numerical method and procedure are verified using the results of one and two dimensional analytic solutions and by other researchers. It is shown that the present method presents a consistent and stable results in either abrupt or ranged phase change problems. Moreover, the numerical results by the present method are hardly effected by the calculation time steps which otherwise are difficult to determine in most phase change problems. Finally, as a three-dimensional application, a T-shaped body of a phase change is presented and the temperature and enthalpy variation along the time are solved.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the propriety of TMA clathrate as a cold storage medium. Particularly, this is to examine the extent of subcooling improvement when the additives is added to the TMA clathrate, because water used for cold storage ma terial has low phase change temperature and subcooling. This study has been analyzed and compared pure water with TMA 30 wt% clathrate how phase change temperature, subcooling and specific heat in the various concentrations are changed. This results prove low phase change temperature and subcooling control effect when the ethanol is added to the TMA 30 wt% clathrate than the TMA 30 wt% clathrate. In addition, it results low specific heat when there is added to the TMA 30 wt% clathrate over 0.5 wt% ethanol in the cold heat source temperature under $-7^{\circ}C$. The other side, it results high specific heat when the ethanol is added in it at the cold heat source temperature under $-5^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it is found that the additive must be controlled by available solution limit and study for new additive must be lasted to know its effect.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of supercooling repression on the clathrate compound by adding additives. For this purpose, phase change temperature and supercooling were measured when additives added to TMA30wt% clathrate for heat source temperature of $-6^{\circ}C$. The experimental results show that the phase change temperature with the chloroform of 0.1wt% is higher by $0.3^{\circ}C$ than TMA30wt% and the supercooling with the surfactant 0.1wt% is reduced by $9.2^{\circ}C$.
In other to progress better crystallization transition and long phase-transformation data of phase-change memory (PRAM), we investigated about the effect of Sb doping and Ag ions percolating into Ge-Se-Te phase-change material. Doped Sb concentrations was determined each of 10 wt%, 20 wt% and 30 wt%. As the Sb-doping concentration was increased, the resistivity decreased and the crystallization temperature increased. Ionization of Ag was progressed by DPSS laser (532 nm) for 1 hour. The resistivity was more decreased and the crystallization temperature was more increased in case of adding Ag layer under Sb-(Ge-Se-Te) thin film. At the every condition of thin films included Ag layer more stable states were indicated compare with just Sb-doped Ge-Se-Te thin films.
Thermal storage plays an important role in building energy saving, which is greatly assisted by the incorporation of latent heat storage in building materials. A phase change material is a substance with a high heat of fusion which, melting and solidifying at a certain temperature, can be storing and releasing large amount of energy. Heat is stored or released when the material changes from solid to liquid. Integration of building materials incorporating PCMs into the building envelope can result in increased efficiency of the built environment. The aim of this research is to identify thermal performance of PCMs impregnated building materials which is applied to interior of building such as gypsum and red clay. In order to analyze thermal performance of phase change materials, test-cell experiments and simulation analysis were carried out. The results show that micro-encapsulated PCM has an effect to maintain a constant indoor temperature using latent heat through the test-cell experiments. PCM wallboard makes it possible to reduce the fluctuation of room temperature and heating and cooling load by using EnergyPlus simulation program. Phase change material can store solar energy directly in buildings. Increasing the heat capacity of a building is capable of improving human comfort by decreasing the frequency of indoor air temperature swings so that the interior air temperature is closer to the desired temperature for a long period of time.
A numerical analysis of solid-liquid phase change was performed on a heat transfer module which consisted of circulating water path (BRINE), heat transfer plate (HTP) and phase change material (PCM) layers, such as high temperature PCM (HPCM, $78{\sim}79^{\circ}C$) and low temperature PCM (LPCM, $28{\sim}29^{\circ}C$). There were five arrangements, consisting of BRINE, HTP, LPCM and HPCM layers in the heat transfer module. The time and heat transfer rate for melting/solidification was compared to their arrangements, against each other. As results, the numerical time without convection was longer than the experimental one for melting/solidification. Moreover, the melting/solidification with the BRINE I-LPCM-BRINE II-HPCM arrangement was faster(10 hours) than the others; HPCM-BRINE-LPCM, BRINE I-HPCM-LPCM-BRINE II one.
To effectively control heat generation resulting from advancements in fast discharging technology for electric vehicle batteries, hybrid Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) are gaining attention. In this study, a BTMS combining Phase Change Material (PCM) with Oscillating Heat Pipe (OHP) was designed. During the phase change process of the PCM, the maximum battery temperature increased slowly. Additionally, due to the excellent heat transfer capability of the OHP, the PCM/OHP BTMS delayed the time when the maximum battery temperature exceeded 50 ℃ by 810 s compared to the PCM/copper fin BTMS, resulting in the maximum battery temperature that was 41.29 ℃ lower at 3600 s. Furthermore, in the section where the latent heat of the PCM had the greatest impact, the slope of the battery temperature difference was 0.0017 lower than that of the PCM/copper fin BTMS. Therefore, the PCM/OHP BTMS demonstrates its potential as a viable hybrid BTMS.
There is a growing need for a nonvolatile memory technology with faster speed than existing nonvolatile memories. We studied of phase-change according to temperature and voltage in chalcogenide thin film base on $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$. Searching for Tg(Glass transition temperature) temperature controlled on hotplate with RT quenching. We measure I-V characteristic through out bottom electrode(ITO) and top electrode(Al) between $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$. And compared with I-V characteristics after impress the variable stress.
