  • This paper reports the active vibration control of plates using positive position feedback controller (PPF). The equations of motion of the plate under force and moment pairs were derived and the equations of PPF controllers were formulated. The effect of the parameters - gain and damping ratio - of the PPF controllers on the open loop transfer function was investigated mainly in terms of the system stability. Increasing the gain of the PPF controller tuned at a mode, the magnitude of the open loop transfer function is increased at all frequencies without changing the phase behavior. The increase of the damping ratio of the PPF controller leads to decrease the magnitude of the open loop transfer function and to modify its phase characteristics to be more stable. Two PPF controllers connected in parallel, Each PPF controller is tuned at the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ modes, respectively. Their parameters were determined to remain the system to be stable based on the results of the parametric study. A significant reduction in vibration at the 2 modes can be obtained.

  • Experimentally measured Lamb wave group velocities in composite materials with anisotropic characteristics are not accorded with the theoretical group velocities as calculated with the Lamb wave dispersion equation. This discrepancy arises from the fact that the angle between the group velocity direction and the phase velocity direction in anisotropic materials exists. Wave propagation in a composite material with anisotropic characteristics should be considered with respect to magnitude in addition to direction. In this study, $S_0$ mode phase velocity dispersion corves are depicted with the variation of degree with respect to the fiber direction using a Lamb wave dispersion relation in the unidirectional, bidirectional, and quasi-isotropic composite plates. Slowness surface is sketched by the reciprocal value of the phase velocity curves. The magnitude and direction of the group velocity are calculated from the slowness surface. The theoretically determined group velocity, which is calculated from the slowness surface, Is compared with experimentally measured group velocities. The proposed method shows good agreements with theoretical and experimental results.

  • Accelerometers have been exploited widely in various fields from monitoring vibration of precision machines to detecting an earthquake wave. The precision calibration of the accelerometers is required to maintain the measurement reliability when measuring the vibration of objects with accelerometers for modal analysis. Among evaluation factors for determining sensitivity of accelerometers, phase delay term should be also considered for accurate calibration. In this paper, a new calibration system of accelerometers capable of measuring phase delay as well as magnitude of its sensitivity was proposed and realized in the frequency range of 20 Hz to 5 kHz.

  • An accurate digital distance relaying algorithm which is immune to reactance effect of the fault resistance and the load current for phase-to-ground fault in 765kV untransposed transmission lines is proposed. The algorithm can estimate adaptively the impedance to a fault point independent of the fault resistance. To compensate the magnitude and phase of the apparent impedance, this algorithm uses the angle of an impedance deviation vector. The impedance correction algorithm for Phase-to-ground fault uses a voltage equation at fault point to compensate the fault current at fault point. A series of tests using EMTP output data in a 765kV untransposed transmission lines have proved the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The kinematic characteristics of cutting device significantly affects cutting performance in 2-dimensional elliptical vibration cutting(EVC) where the cutting tool cuts workpiece, traversing a micro-scale elliptical trajectory in a trochoidal motion. In this study, kinematical characteristics of EVC device constructed with two parallel stacked piezoelectric actuators were analytically modeled and compared with the experimental results. The EVC device was subjected to step and low-frequency(0.1 Hz) sinusoidal inputs to reveal only its kinematical displacement characteristics. Hysteresis in the motion of the device was observed in the thrust direction and distinctive skew of the major axis of the elliptical trajectory of the cutting tool was also noticed. Discrepancy in the voltage-to-displacement characteristics of the piezoelectric actuators was found to largely contribute to the skew of the major axis of the elliptical trajectory of the cutting tool. Analytical kinematical model predicted the cutting direction displacement within 10 % error in magnitude with no phase error, but in estimating the thrust direction displacement, it showed a $27^{\circ}$ of phase-lag compared with the measured displacement with no magnitude error.

  • Vehicle interior noise has become increasingly important in this recent years. The noise of a vehicle is one of the important problems in a vehicle design. The interior noise is caused by various vibration sources of vehicle compartment. The booming noise of a vehicle can be significantly affected by vibrations transmitted from engine excitation forces to the vehicle body. Specially, we are interested in the state of transmission paths such as engine mounts to reduce noise in a vehicle compartment. In this paper, we have been calculated the contribution of each transmission path such as engine mounts to interior noise. To identify contribution of each input sources and transmission paths to output, the effectiveness of each input component to output is calculated. Sensitivity analysis is carried out for investigation of contribution to output due to input variations. With the simulation of magnitude and phase change of inputs using vector synthesis diagram, the trends of synthesized output vector are obtained. As a result, we suggested sensitivity analysis of vector synthesis as a technique of prediction and control for noise in a vehicle compartment.

  • This paper proposes a modified $\alpha$ conduction mode for controlling the output voltage magnitude of three-phase square-wave VSIs with an R-L load. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, three-phase square-wave inverters are now used in most high power systems. When the square-wave VSI is driven with $\alpha$ conduction mode to control the magnitude of output voltages, interval over than half period is operated with $180^{\circ}$ conduction mode and the other interval with $120^{\circ}$ conduction mode. In $120^{\circ}$ conduction mode operation, two output terminals are connected to DC supply and the third one remains open. The potential of this open terminal will depend on the load characteristics and is unpredictable except the case of pure resistive loads. To cope this problem, we propose the modified α conduction mode.

  • In this paper, we propose a frequency synchronization algorithm using characteristic of CAZAC sequence for HDR-WPAN and analyze the performance by signal constellation and EVM(error vector magnitude). The proposed frequency offset technique estimated each sample phase error of two sequences among 12 CAZAC sequences which have excellent autocorrelated characteristic. Estimated phase error is multiplied to each sample of next sequence for compensating the frequency offset. The remaining frequency offset after compensating it with two sequences has maximum 0.002 offsest ranges at each sample. The computer simulation proved that the permission of EVM value had satisfied in the case of DQPSK at 20[dB].

  • The ultrasonic phased arrays are used for treating tumors in the human body by the focus control of the acoustic pressure at the desired position. The magnitude and phase of the surface acoustic pressure in each ultrasonic transducer is controlled by the magnitude and phase of the applied voltage to it. In this paper, the relationship between the applied voltage and the surface acoustic pressure of the ultrasound transducer is modelled, and the desired voltage is realized by PWM technique. The validity of the proposed method is verified by computer simulation of the focus control of a ultrasonic phased array composed of 61 ultrasonic transducers.
