  • In this paper, we introduce the efficient carrier phase estimating algorithm collaborate with the channel decoder of turbo coded QPSK modulation for mobile DVB-RCS systems. At low SNR, the phase estimation using soft information of turbo decoder is able to improve power efficiency because of achieving the good synchronization. We investigate performance of external single estimator and internal multiple estimator in the PSP (Per Survivor Processing) manner over AWGN channel. For phase estimation, the LMS (Least Mean Square) scheme is considered. Three different APP-based methods are also proposed.

  • Phase I clinical trials determine the maximum tolerated dose(MTD) of a new drug. In this paper, we proposed a two-stage MTD estimation method by a Stopping rule in a phase I clinical trial. The suggested MTD estimation method is compared to the standard design(SM3) and the continual reassessment method(CRM) using a Monte Carlo simulation study.

  • In this paper, we consider to the adjustment weighting procedure in the two phase sampling scheme. In general, the unit nonresponses may be occured in the final survey operation. When the unit nonresponse be generated in survey, it is able to use the auxiliary variable for estimating of interest variable. In this viewpoint, we use the two kinds level of auxiliary variable, $X_{1k}$ and $X_{2k}$ for the calibration procedure. We proprose the two-step Newton's method in the calibration estimation procedure for the two phase sampling.

  • In this paper, a new data-aided joint phase and frequency estimator, which has very low computational complexity, is proposed and its variances of phase and frequency estimates are derived. To estimate the phase and frequency offset, first of all, the overall observation interval is divided into same length sub-intervals, and then phase estimates are independently computed based on symbols of the each sub-intervals. To be continue the sequence of computed phase estimates, proper integer multiples of $2{\pi}$ are added to (or subtracted from) the computed phase estimates, which is called linearized phase estimate. The phase offset of the proposed joint estimator is estimated by averaging the linearized phase estimates and the frequency offset by averaging the differences between consecutive linearized phase estimates. The variance of the proposed phase offset estimate is same to MCRB of phase if there is no frequency offset, but it is smaller than MCRB of phase if there is frequency offset. However, the variance of the proposed frequency offset estimate is bigger by at least 0.5 dB than MCRB of frequency with the same observation interval.

  • In this paper, we propose a brushless DC motor drive system for active knee prosthesis and low-cost estimation method for phase current from DC-link current. To control motor torque directly, current sensing is very important and current sensing point should be synchronized with voltage switching command to minimize the effect of switching noise in current measurement, For maintaining small form factor, simplifying control schemes and achieving low-cost system, control schemes using DC-link current are used. Moreover, we incorporated phase current estimation method using analog MUX for minimizing current estimation error between DC-link current and phase current. The validity of the proposed system is verified through experimental works.

  • This paper presents a Fourier based algorithm for estimating the parameters of the low frequency oscillating modes. The proposed methods estimates various parameters(frequency, damping factor, mode magnitude, phase) by fitting Fourier spectrum and phase with a damped exponential cosine function. Dominant frequency is selected by taking frequency corresponding to the peak spectrum, and damping factor is estimated using the left/right spectra of Fourier spectrum. In addition, mode magnitude is calculated by the normalized peak spectrum, and phase is estimated from spectrum phase. Also, we introduce an accuracy index in order to determine the accuracy of the estimated parameters, and the index is calculated using the deviations of the peak spectrum and the left/right spectra. The parameter estimation methods proposed in this paper include very simple arithmetical processes, so the algorithms are simple and the calculation speed is very fast. The proposed methods are applied to test functions with two dominant modes. The results show that the proposed methods are highly applicable to low frequency parameter estimation.

  • The main purpose of phase I clinical trials is to estimate the Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD), which minimizes side effect and assures safety of a new drug by evaluating the toxicity at each dose-level. The conventional MTD estimation methods is Standard method (Storer, 1989; Korn et al., 1994), Accelerated Titration Designs (Simon et al., 1997) and DM method (Dixon and Mood, 1948) etc. In this paper, MTD estimation method with de-escalation is suggested phase I clinical trials. The proposed MTD estimation method is compared to Accelerated Titration Designs, SM3 without de-escalation method and SM3 with de-escalation method using a Monte Carlo simulation.
