Synthesis and Characteristics of Hydxoxypropyl Celluloses Containing Cholesteryl and Acryloyl Groups (콜레스테릴과 아크릴로일 그룹을 지닌 하이드록시프로필 셀룰로오스들의 합성 및 특성)

  • (6-Cholesteryloxycarbonylpentoxypropyl)celluloses (CHPCs) with degree of esterification (DE) ranging from 2.25 to 2.91 were synthesized by reacting hydroxypropyl cellulose with 6-cholesteryloxycarbonylpentanoyl chloride. The acrylic esters of CHPCs (CHPCEs) and their photocrosslinked films with liquidcrystalline order were also synthesized. The thermotropic properties of mesophase for both uncrosslinked and crosslinked samples and the swelling behavior of the crosslinked samples in acetone were investigated. The hydroxypropyl cellulose exhibited an enantiotropic cholesteric phas, while all the uncrosslinked cholesterylbearing samples exhibited a monotropic cholesteric phases; the 6-cholesteryloxycarbonylpentanoyl chloride also showed a monotropic smectic phase. The hydroxypropyl cellulose formed a right-handed helix whose optical pitch (λ$\sub$m/) increases with temperature, whereas all the uncrosslinked derivatives farmed left-handed helices whose λ$\sub$m/'s decreased with temperature. The thermal stability of the mesophase and the magnitude of λ$\sub$m/ at the same temperature for both CHPCs and CHPCEs decreased with increasing DE. All the crosslinked samples, in constrast with CHPCEs, did not display reflection colors but exhibited an anisotropic swelling characteristic of crosslinked gel retaining liquid-crystalline order.

  • In this paper, we propose a CMOS FM RX front-end structure with an automatic tunable input matching network and implement it using a 65nm CMOS technology. The proposed FM RX front-end is designed to change the resonance frequency of the input matching network at the low noise amplifier (LNA) according to the channel frequency selected by a phase-locked loop (PLL) for maintaining almost constant sensitivity level when an embedded antenna type with high frequency selectivity characteristic is used for FM receiver. The simulation results of implemented FM front-end show about 38dB of voltage gain, below 2.5dB of noise figure, and -15.5dBm of input referred intercept point (IIP3) respectively, while drawing only 3.5mA from 1.8V supply voltage including an LO buffer.

Ultrasonographic Analysis of the Size and Shape of the Muscles (근육의 크기와 형태의 초음파적 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to extract the external oblique muscle of abdomen images that is often excluded by previous method due to image distortion. In the preprocessing phase of the proposed method, we emphasize the brightness contrast with Ends-in search stretching algorithm after removing noise from the initial ultrasonic images. Then we apply average binarization in vertical direction to extract candidate fascia areas. After removing other areas than fascia with morphological characteristics, the lost part in the fascia during the process is restored with such characteristic information and location information. Then the skin area is also removed with information from the arc appearing in convex filming and the candidate muscle areas are extracted by overlapping two results two way up-down search algorithm. Another noise removing process is done to determine the muscle area. In case of obtaining obscure result, after restoring the muscle area by smearing method, the thickness of the muscle is measured by min square method. The experiment verifies that the proposed method is sufficiently effective to analyze the size and shape of muscles in abdomen in ultrasonography than previously used methods.

Kinematic Characteristics of the Thrower's COM and the Shot in Shot Put : The Woman Record Holder of Korea (포환던지기 동작 시 포환과 신체 무게중심의 운동학적 특성 : 한국 여자 기록보유자를 대상으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinematic characteristics of the thrower's center of mass (COM) and the shot that her performance hits record high for the 29th National Athletic Competition. Two S-VHS video cameras were used to visualize. The Direct Linear Transformation technique was employed to paint a clear picture in the three dimensional coordination. Kwon3D was used to analyze the data. The results showed that release velocity and height were 13.73 m/s and 198.6 cm(119% by height ratio), respectively, which is considered as peak performance comparing an extensive review of previous literature on the shot put. Release angle was $34^{\circ}$, which is lower than the previous studies. The path of thrower's center of mass is needed to travel in a release direction during the flight phase. The vertical movement of the thrower's center of mass during the driving should be controlled. At release, the perfact timing is required without vertical and horizontal movements of the thrower's center of mass.

Design and fabrication of Q-band MIMIC oscillator using the MEMS technology (MEMS 기술을 이용한 Q-band MIMIC 발진기의 설계 및 제작)

  • We suggest Q-band MEMS MIMIC (Millimeter wave Monolithic Integrated Circuit) HEMT Oscillator using DAML (Dielectric-supported Airgapped Mcrostrip Line) structure. We elevated the signal lines from the substrate using dielectric post, in order to reduce the substrate dielectric loss and obtain low losses at millimeter-wave frequency. These DAML are composed with heist of $10\;{\mu}m$ and post size with $20\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;20\;{\mu}m$. The MEMS oscillator was successfully integrated by the process of $0.1\;{\mu}m$ GaAs PHEMTs, CPW transmission line and DAML. The phase noise characteristic of the MEMS oscillator was improved more than 7.5 dBc/Hz at a 1 MHz offset frequency than that of the CPW oscillator And the high output power of 7.5 dBm was measured at 34.4 GHz.

Do Inner Planets Modulate the Solar Wind Velocity at 1 AU from the Sun?

  • Quite recently, it has been suggested that the interaction of the solar wind with Mercury results in the variation in the solar wind velocity in the Earth's neighborhood during inferior conjunctions with Mercury. This suggestion has important implications both on the plasma physics of the interplanetary space and on the space weather forecast. In this study we have attempted to answer a question of whether the claim is properly tested. We confirm that there are indeed ups and downs in the profile of the solar wind velocity measured at the distance of 1 AU from the Sun. However, the characteristic attribute of the variation in the solar wind velocity during the inferior conjunctions with Mercury is found to be insensitive to the phase of the solar cycles, contrary to an earlier suggestion. We have found that the cases of the superior conjunctions with Mercury and of even randomly chosen data sets rather result in similar features. Cases of Venus are also examined, where it is found that the ups and downs with a period of ~ 10 to 15 days can be also seen. We conclude, therefore, that those variations in the solar wind velocity turn out to be a part of random fluctuations and have nothing to do with the relative position of inner planets. At least, one should conclude that the solar wind velocity is not a proper observable modulated by inner planets at the distance of 1 AU from the Sun in the Earth's neighborhood during inferior conjunctions.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of two three-leg inverters and a five-leg inverter and proposes the optimal operation conditions in applying the five-leg inverter for the train propulsion system. The five-leg inverter offers a saving of two switches compared with the standard two three-leg inverters and it is possible to control two three-phase motors independently by using a control board. All of these features lead to a potential reduction in capital cost and miniaturization of system. In this paper, first, the analysis of the existing motor control method and PWM method for two-traction motor drive of urban railway is implemented. Next, the operation principle and performance of five-leg inverter is introduced. Through the analysis, when it applies the same motor control method and the same PWM method for three-leg inverter and five-leg inverter, the characteristic of motor's speed and torque is compared.

Full Parametric Impedance Analysis of Photoelectrochemical Cells: Case of a TiO2 Photoanode

  • Issues in the electrical characterization of semiconducting photoanodes in a photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell, such as the cell geometry dependence, scan rate dependence in DC measurements, and the frequency dependence in AC measurements, are addressed, using the example of a $TiO_2$ photoanode. Contrary to conventional constant phase element (CPE) modeling, the capacitive behavior associated with Mott-Schottky (MS) response was successfully modeled by a Havriliak-Negami (HN) capacitance function-which allowed the determination of frequency-independent Schottky capacitance parameters to be explained by a trapping mechanism. Additional polarization can be successfully described by the parallel connection of a Bisquert transmission line (TL) model for the diffusion-recombination process in the nanostructured $TiO_2$ electrode. Instead of shunt CPEs generally employed for the non-ideal TL feature, TL models with ideal shunt capacitors can describe the experimental data in the presence of an infinite-length Warburg element as internal interfacial impedance - a characteristic suggested to be a generic feature of many electrochemical cells. Fully parametrized impedance spectra finally allow in-depth physicochemical interpretations.

The Gas Liquid Partition Coefficients of Eleven Normal, Branched and Cyclic Alkanes in Sixty Nine Common Organic Liquids II: The Effect of Solvent Structure

  • The effect of solvent structure on the slope in the plot of ln K vs. solute carbon number was examined. It was found that the free energy of methylene group transfer from the gas phase into a solvent was always negative and that the absolute magnitude of interaction free energy between the methylene group and the solvent was always larger than the absolute magnitude of cavity formation free energy of the methylene group in the solvent. Thus, the slope in the plot of ln K vs. solute carbon number was always positive and its value decreases with increase of solvent polarity since the cavity formation energy of the CH₂ unit increases with increase of solvent polarity while the dispersive interaction energy of the CH₂ unit is virtually invariant. We also examined the effect of sequential addition of CH₂ unit to a solvent molecule upon ln K for three homologous series of solvents: n-alkanes, n-alcohols, and n-nitriles. Characteristic trends in the plots of ln K vs. solvent carbon number were observed for individual solvent groups. A decrease of ln K with solvent carbon number was observed for n-alkanes. An abrupt increase in ln K followed by levelling off was observed for n-alcohols while a final slight decrease in ln K after an abrupt increase followed by rapid levelling off was noted for n-nitriles. All of theses phenomena were found related to variation in cavity formation energy. It was clearly shown that a structural change of a polar solvent by sequential addition of CH₂ units causes an abrupt polarity decrease initially, then gradual levelling off, and finally, conversion to a virtually nonpolar solvent if enough CH₂ units are added.

Analysis of PD Distribution Characteristics and Comparison of Classification Methods according to Electrical Tree Source in Power Cable (전력용 케이블 시편에서 전기트리 발생원에 따른 부분방전 분포 특성 및 발생원 분류기법 비교)

  • One of the cause of insulation failure in power cable is well known by electrical treeing discharge. This is occurred for imposed continuous stress at cable. And this event is related to safety, reliability and maintenance. In this paper, throughout analysis of partial discharge(PD) distribution when occurring the electrical tree, is studied for the purpose of knowing of electrical treeing discharge characteristics according to defects. Own characteristic of tree will be differently processed in each defect and this reason is the first purpose of this paper. To acquire PD data, three defective tree models were made. And their own data is shown by the phase-resolved partial discharge method (PRPD). As a result of PRPD, tree discharge sources have their own characteristics. And if other defects (void, metal particle) exist internal power cable then their characteristics are shown very different. This result Is related to the time of breakdown and this is importance of cable diagnosis. And classification method of PD sources was studied in this paper. It needs select the most useful method to apply PD data classification one of the proposed method. To meet the requirement, we select methods of different type. That is, neural network(NN-BP), adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system and PCA-LDA were applied to result. As a result of, ANFIS shows the highest rate which value is 98 %. Generally, PCA-LDA and ANFIS are better than BP. Finally, we performed classification of tree progress using ANFIS and that result is 92 %.
