  • In this study, the petroleum sulfonate(PS) was synthesized from pyolyzed fuel oil by sulfonation reaction with sulfuric acid. The PS synthesized had surfactant behaviors relating to the interfacial properties such as surface tension, surface adsorption, and wetting, etc. These interfacial properties were affected by the sulfonation ratio in the synthesis. As the sulfonation ratio increased, the surface tension of the PS aqueous solution decreased. However, when the ratio was too high, the surface tension was increased due to the extremely higher value of hydrophilicity of PS. At the optimum sulfonation ratio, the PS had a good wettability on the cement particles and a good fluidity of the cement mortar with a high adsorption.

  • Sodium ion batteries based on the more sodium source reserve than that of lithium have been designed as promising alternatives to lithium ion batteries. However, several problems including unsatisfied specific capacity and serious cyclic stability must be solved before the reality. One of the effective approaches to solve the abovementioned problems is to search for suitable anode materials. In this work, we designed and prepared $FeSe_2$ nanoflakes via a simple hydrothermal method which can be adjusted in composition by Fe precursor. As a potential anode for sodium storage, the optimized $FeSe_2$ electrode was further evaluated in different electrolytes of $NaClO_4$ in propylene carbonate/fluoroethylene carbonate and $NaCF_3SO_3$ in diethylene glycol dimethyl ether. The capacity was about $470mAh\;g^{-1}$ and $535mAh\;g^{-1}$ at $0.5A\;g^{-1}$, respectively, in the voltage between 0.5 V and 2.9 V in the cycle of stabilization phase. Superior performance both in capacity and in stability was obtained in ether-based electrolyte, which affords the property without plugging the intermediates of transition metal dichalcogenides during charge/discharge processes.

  • A total of 17 exploratory wells were drilled from the Block VI-1 and recently commercial gas field was discovered in the Ulleung Basin. Thermal maturity of organic matter in the sediments from the drilling wells were evaluated for the characterization of the petroleum system of the basin. Level of thermal maturation of organic matter is different depending on the area to area. The top of oil window is located at about 800 m in the Dolgorae 5 area, and it is relatively deeper in both western and northern areas. It seems that thermal maturity of organic matter reached present stage before tectonism in the deformed zone 2, whereas thermal maturation continued after tectonism in other zones.

  • The efficacy of petroleum spray oil (PSO; D-C Tron $Plus^{(R)}$) against spirea aphid (Aphis citricola) and two scales (lcerya purchasi and Planococcus cryptus) on citrus was tested in Jeju, Korea. The control value of 0.33% PSO against spirea aphid was over 90% at 3 and 6 days after treatment (DAT), and then decreased to about 80% at 9 and 14 DAT. Spraying of PSO (0.33, 0.66, 1%) against cottony-cushion scale showed a much lower control value (less than 50%) during the investigation period compared to that of the conventional pesticide (Methion). When used against tile scale, Planococcus cryptus, the control value of 1% PSO was 95%, but that of 0.33% and 0.66% PSO only ranged from 50 to 80%, lower than the conventional pesticide. The results of this study, as with a previous study, suggest that spraying of 0.33% and 0.5% PSO not only controls the spirea aphid, but also reduces the density of two scales (lcerya purchasi and Planococcus cryptus) on citrus tree in Jeju, without phytotoxic damage.

  • Recently, a new developed petroleiun spray oil(PSO; D-C Tron $Plus^{(R)}$) has been used to control key pests in integrated pest management (IPM) system of citrus orchards in Australia. The efficacy and phytotoxicity of the PSO against the citrus red mite (Panonychus citri) were compared with conventional pesticides (e.g.Tebufenpyrad, Bifenazate and Sun spray oil) in field condition in Jeju. And under PSO mixing spray with some fungicides, the occurrence of phytotoxic symptoms on citrus leaf was investigated. All concentrations of PSO spraying (0.25%, 0.33%, 0.5% and 1.0%) were significantly suppressed the citrus red mite to similar levels of other conventional pesticides. And the spraying of PSO levels ${\geq}0.5%$ was induced not only occurrence of some oil-sucked symptoms on leaf, but also increase of the dropping leaf and fruit rates. As results from mixing PSO spraying test with other fungicides, little burning on new flush shoot was founded only in PSO 1% plus Fluazinam treatment. From the results of this study, with the consideration of pesticidal efficacy and phytotoxicity, 0.25% and 0.33% PSO spraying level will be recommended for the control of citrus red mite during summer season in Jeju.

  • Biodiesel produced from the reaction of methanol and triglyceride which is the main component of animal fats and vegetable oils is known for remarkable lubricity. In this study, the lubricity of 3 kinds of biodiesel came from vegetable oils such as soybean oil, palm oil, and perilla oil and 2 kind of biodiesel which were produced from beef tallow and pork lard were analyzed using HFRR (High frequency reciprocating rig). In HFRR test result, the lubricity of perilla and soybean's biodiesel was higher than other biodiesels. After analysis of biodiesel components by GC-MS and determination of the lubricity of pure biodiesel components using HFRR, it was found that a higher olefin content and long alkyl chaining biodiesel had an excellent lubricity property.

  • We solve the Klein-Gordon equation with the modified Rosen-Morse potential energy model. The bound state energy equation has been obtained by using the supersymmetric shape invariance approach. The relativistic vibrational transition frequencies for the $6^1{\Pi}_u$ state of the $^7Li_2$ molecule have been computed by using the modified Rosen-Morse potential model. The calculated relativistic vibrational transition frequencies are in good agreement with the experimental RKR values.

  • Biodiesel produced from triglyceride which is main component of animal fats and vegetable oils by methanolysis was known for excellent lubricity. In this study, the lubricity of 12 kinds of biodiesel come from vegetable oils were analyzed using HFRR(High frequency reciprocating rig). The biodiesel synthesized from soybean oil has best lubricity by $153{\mu}m$ of wear scar in HFRR and used fried oil's biodiesel has slightly low lubricity by $299{\mu}m$. Also we have found that the lubricity of diesel was improved when mixing ratio of soybean biodiesel was increased in base diesel.

  • In this paper a numerical experiment is conducted to determine the low acoustic impedance of a thin oil or gas reservoir from a seismogram by using the generalized linear inversion method. The seismograms used are normal incident synthetic seismograms containing p-wave primary reflections, multiples, and peg-leg multiples on the layers consisting of oil-, gas-, water-filled sandstone incased in shales. In this experiment the acoustic impedance, the location of reservoir boundary, thickness, and source wavelet are assumed initially and revised iteratively by the least-squares-error technique until the difference between the seismogram and calculated one is very small. This experiment shows that the acoustic impedance and thickness, about 10 m thick, can be determined by the inversion.

  • Quantitation methods of total petroleum hydrocarbons to determinate oil contaminated level in soil were discussed. Extraction characteristics of several pretreatment methods and practical detection limit and reappearances in gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. with each pretreatment method were investigated. The obtained results showed that the newly adopted quantitation method and mechanical shaking extraction method using methanol with extraction solvent are more practical and applicable to real sample than the conventional methods. In applying these methods to gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil which are major source of soil contamination, the practical quantitation limit and % relative standard deviation was able to determine with range of 2.5 - 10 ppm, 5 - 7 %.
