A Review on Perspiration in the aspect of BiaoLi-YinYang(表裏陰陽) in Hwangjenaegyung(黃帝內經) (황제내경(黃帝內經)의 표리음양(表裏陰陽) 관점에서 본 한(汗)에 대한 고찰(考察))

  • In our review, the conclusions on the concept and principle of perspiration are as follows. 1. It is the physiological perspiration that Qingyang(淸陽) from Jing(精), Qi(氣), Xie(血) synthesized by digestion of food and drink(水穀), is increased and secreted from pores on the skin(腠理). 2. The main center to control perspiration is heart(心), but lver(肝), stomach(胃), spleen(脾), lung(肺), bladder(膀胱), kidney(腎) and triple energizer(三焦) can be also related to perspiration indirectly. 3. As Weiqi(衛氣) make the body warm and keep the body temperature constant by controlling perspiration, it is very important to make a diagnosis of Weiqi(衛氣) Xushi(虛實) by skin temperature. 4. We guess that perspiration can be secreted by the control of BiaoLi-YinYang(表裏陰陽) such as centrifugal(氣) and centrifetal force(形) of Qi(氣). 5. Sweating therapy can make the level of Biaoyang(表陽) correct and control the balance between centrifugal(氣) and centrifetal force(形) of Qi(氣).

A Study on the Jeubjeubhanchul(濈濈汗出) Related to Sibjo-tang in Donguisusebowon (『동의수세보원』 십조탕(十棗湯)과 관련된 즙즙한출(濈濈汗出)에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to understand the intention expressed as Jeubjeubhanchul(濈濈汗出) unlike the aspect of perspiration in 『Sanghanlun(傷寒論)』 and 『Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)』. Methods We examined Sibjo-tang(十棗湯) and the aspect of perspiration focusing on the Chip(漐) and Jeub(濈) in 『Sanghanlun(傷寒論)』, 『Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)』, and 『Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)』. Moreover, we examined the connection between the quoted purpose of Sibjo-tang and the aspect of perspiration. Results and Conclusion 1. When Leejema quoted Sibjo-tang to explain the Chestbind disease(結胸) of the Soyang pattern, he used Jeubjeubhanchul (濈濈汗出) instead of Chipchiphanchul(漐漐汗出). 2. About the aspect of perspiration in 『Sanghanlun』 and 『Donguibogam』, the Chip(漐) is used in a situation when the disease progressed from Pyo(表) to Li(裏) and Taeyang-byeong(太陽病) to Yangmyung-byeong(陽明病), and it is expression of physiological perspiration. The Jeub(濈) is used in a situation related to interior(內), Li(裏), and Yangmyung-byeong. 3. Leejema understood Sibjo-tang in relation to the Chestbind disease of the Soyang pattern caused by aggravation of Liyeol (裏熱). Therefore, Leejema used the Jeub(濈) related to interior, Li and Yangmyung-byeong, and it is expression of perspiration caused by aggravation of Liyeol in the Soyang pattern. 4. At first time, Leejema mentioned perspiration and short of breath(短氣) in the symptoms of Sibjo-tang, but he mentioned dry vomiting(乾嘔) and short of breath in 『Sinchukbon(辛丑本)』. Thus, his perspective of perspiration related to Sibjo-tang was appeared in 『Gabobon(甲午本)』, and he paid attention to perspiraion as a major symptom of the Chestbind disease in the early. After clinical experience was built up, It was not that important as the past.

  • For having good therapeutic value, putting the ideal of diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs[辨證施治] into practice is very important, so the Eastern Medicine's peculiar diagnosis without interference by the western medical diagnosis is very important. The peculiar method of Eastern Medicine's diagnosis is four methods of diagnosis(四診法), a joint term for inspection, auscultation and olfaction, interrogation, pulse feeling and palpation. In the process of interrogation[問診], from analyzing the perspiration phase, doctor can get various physical information. Especially perspiration from particular region can be a clue for founding focus or cause of disease. This thesis divide the phase of perspiration into eight bodily region, perspiration from all body, head, face, back, chest and armpit, stomach, pubic region and lower part, hands and feet, and inquire the possible causes and principles of these perspirations. In conclusion, the regional perspiration can be a clue point out the origin of fever and condition of Gi(氣) flow. Perspiration from head, back, chest and armpit, hands and feet means that certain fever cannot extend to the outside of body, and at the same time, means the Gi(氣) flow of outside is being intercepted. So the perspirations from that region become an object of medical treatment.

  • Perspiration is the product of metabolism and the resin comes out through the hole of skin. And it keeps constant with heart and blood. So, it has great meaning in the clinical medicine and it is closely connected with the qi, blood, body fluid and viscera in our body. In the oriental medicine it is said that when our body is attacked with the evil qi and it locates in the surface of our body, we must induce the perspiration and it is called 'Method of Perspiration'. If we use that method we should refer the contraindication, and historical doctors stressed the need of deliberate use. However, the moderns have the misunderstandings about the perspiration. When they have alcoholic trouble and feel fatigue, they wring out the sweat. And they think that doing has good results. They even sweat off their surplus fat. But, that doing is rashly as that is an energy-consuming behavior and it shorten one's span of life because of the running dry of the resin. Therefore, we must use very carefully the 'Method of Perspiration' and not wring out the sweat rashly.

  • Recently, problems related to the natural dyeing have been addressed. Severer problems have been posed by the elution at metallic ions and dyestuff tram dyed fabrics. In order to prevent the elution tram the dyed fabrics, it is needed to improve the fastness. Especially, it is the most important measure to improve the fastness to perspiration in terms at human body safety. In this study, we employed chitosan pretreatment method bet ore the dyeing process, anticipating that the pretreatment might improve the fastness. We used Al, Sn, and Cu as mordants and investigated the fastness to light and perspiration of the chitosan treated and dyed fabric specimens. By the chitosan pretreatment, the fastness to perspiration improved, while the fastness to light did not.

  • Objectives : This study aim to find out the reason why perspiration related with the Heart in Korean Medicine. Results : Perspiration is closely connected with the Heart because sweat is a kind of ultrafiltrate of the blood and the Heart conducts blood. In order to perspire, it is necessary to increase blood flow to capillary surrounding sweat glands. The Heart plays an important role in increasing blood flow to capillary surrounding sweat glands. Perspiration controls the body temperature. It must be increase the blood flow to skin in order that down the high body temperature. The Heart plays an important role in increasing blood flow. Conclusions : Perspiration is closely connected with the Heart because sweat is a kind of ultrafiltrate of the blood and there are plenty capillary surround sweat gland. The Heart controls the blood flow to skin in order to regulate of body temperature.

A Case Report of Cold Hypersensitivity and Perspiration Treated with Hyangsayijoongtang-gamibang (향사이중탕가미방(香砂理中湯加味方)으로 전신냉감과 자한 호전된 여환 1례)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate effect of Hyangsayijoongtang-gamibang on Cold Hypersensitivity and accompanying perspiration. Methods : Hyangsayijoongtang-gamibang was used for a Cold Hypersensitivity patient with accompanying perspiration that was admitted to Kangnam Kyung-Hee Korean Hospital from May 2nd, 2011 to May 14th, 2011. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated with Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI). along with objective and subjective observations. Results : After treatments of oriental medicine. the mean body temperature elevated $1.32^{\circ}C$. and the mean temperature difference between different points of the body decreased more than 50%. Subjective observation of Cold Hypersensitivity and accompanying perspiration using Visual Analog Scale(VAS) also showed improvement. Conclusion : Results suggest that Hyangsayijoongtang-gamibang is effective in treating Cold Hypersensitivity patients with accompanying perspiration.

Analysis of Sasang Constitutional Deviation of Health Condition according to the Tendency of Perspiration (발한양상에 따른 건강상태의 체질별 편차에 대한 분석)

Objectives: The aim of this study was to survey the tendency of perspiration and health condition of Sasang Constitution and to analysis the relationship between health condition and perspiration. 2. Methods: We recruited 1565 subjects in multi-oriental hospitals and researched their perspiration and health condition. Subjects were diagnosed by the Sasang Constitutional specialists in oriental hospitals, and had remarkable improvement in their chief complains after Sasang Constitutional Medication. All subjects answered the questionnaire about the tendency of perspiration including the amount and region of sweating, and the health condition such as meal, appetite, tiredness, health degree, and warm-cold preference. Based on these clinical data, we analyzed the Sasang Constitutional deviation of health condition according to the tendency of perspiration. We found the differences of answering using Chi-square test between-group comparison. We analyzed using SPSS 14.0 for Korean. 3. Results: The amount of sweating was related with degree of health condition such as tiredness, health degree, meal, appetite, and warm-cold preference. However there was no significant differences between Sasang Constitutional groups. 4. Conclusions: According the region of sweating, there was some deviation of health conditions between Sasang Constitution. Especially sweating of head and neck meant good symptom for SE type but not for SY type. And the sweating on the chest and axilla meant bad symptoms for all Sasang Constitutional types.

  • Driving simulations were performed to evaluate the effect of providing both visual information and body sensory information on changes in steering characteristics and the amount of perspiration in drift cornering. When the driver is provided with body sensory information and visual information, the amount of perspiration increases and the driver can perform drift control with a moderate level of tension. With visual information only, the driver tends to easily go into a spin because drift control is difficult. In this case, the amount of perspiration increases greatly as compared with the case where body sensory information is also provided, reflecting a very high perception of risk. When body sensory information is provided, the driver can control drift adequately, feeding back the roll angle information in steering. The importance of the driver's perception of the state of the vehicle was thus confirmed, and a desirable future direction for driver assistance systems was determined.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the change in temperature humidity perspiration of fire suit when applying phased intensive exercises to fire fighter wearing fire suit. For this study, three male fire fighters took basic physical test and performed 10 minute phased intensive exercises -exercise intensity I (30%VO2max), exercise intensity II (45%VO2max), exercise intensity III (60%VO2max) based on maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max)- wearing fire suit (helmet, boots, air respirator) in treadmill and took a rest. The result of study shows that the temperature in the suit elevated during stabilization period after each exercise intensity, humidity elevated as exercise intensity increased, perspiration elevated as exercise intensity increased. This study indirectly ascertained the fire suit's physiological change in fire fighters during field activities.
