The subjects of the study were the 113 breast cancer patients treated at 3 university hospitals in Daegu and Busan from June 1 to Sep. 30, 2003. Personality characteristics was measured by using Personality Inventory(NEO-PI), hope measured by using Nowotny's Hope Scale, and QOL by using a questionnaire developed by Ro(1988). Data were analyzed with SPSS program by frequency, range, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The findings of this survey indicate 1) The mean personality characteristics item score was 2.64, hope was 2.78, and QOL was 3.19. It appeared that there was a slightly negative tendency about personality characteristics, hope and QOL of breast cancer patients. 2) There was a significant difference between personality characteristics, hope and QOL according to demographic factor. 3) There was a positive correlation between personality characteristics and hope(r=.49), hope and QOL(r=.377). Among subitem of hope and QOL especially confident, possibility of future, active participation, inner motivation and self esteem were positively correlated with personality characteristics especially extroversion, openness and conscientiousness. 4) There was a negative correlation between neuroticism and relation with neighbor(r=-.452), neuroticism and relation with family(r=-.344). It was found that personality characteristics, hope and QOL were essential concept for qualitive care of breast cancer patients and there were negative correlation with neuroticism toward relation with neighbor and relation with family. This study suggests that there would be further study to find out the importance and relationship among personality characteristics, hope and QOL of breast cancer patients.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of personality characteristics on drinking patterns and drinking-related problems Subjects were selected through convenience sampling from the two universities in Kyung-Ki area Data were collected from Nov. 1st to Dec. 20th 2000 using a structured questionnaire that including general characteristics, Q-F(Quantity-Frequency) Methods, Personality Scales and Drinking-related Problem Scales. The results of this study show 1. 50.8% of subjects were heavy drinkers. 2. Heavy drinker scores higher on drinking-related problems and amount of smoking than light drinkers. 3. The Drinking patterns and drinking-related problems of heavy drinkers were selected to the influence of a depressive-tendency in personality and the amount of smoking. The results of this study suggest that the drinking-related problems of male university students are selected to the influence of depressive and anti-social characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary that further study on various nursing interventions be done and that personality be taken into consideration in developing programs aimed of preventing drinking-related problems in heavy drinkers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the important factors on juvenile delinquency and to examine relationships between sex, age, the family environment, the personality of adolescents, smoking, and juvenile delinquency. Methods: Data collection was done through questionnaire surveys. The subjects for this study consisted of 1,948 adolescents delinquents : 784, students : 1,164 in Korea, using proportional stratified random sampling method. Statistical methods employed were chi-square, t-test and path analysis. Results: The results of this study were as follows : 1. The delinquent adolescents were reared in a more dysfunctional family environment, and had a higher maladaptive personality than the other student adolescents. 2. The delinquent adolescents showed the larger amount of smoking than the student adolescents. The cause of increased smoking tendency among delinquents simply were 'for social relation', 'for diversion', 'for nicotine addiction', whereas 'for tension relieving' among non-delinquent adolescents. 3. The most powerful contributors on delinquent behavior were antisocial personality tendencies, smoking, sex, strength of parent- child relationships, and the age of the adolescents in this order. Conclusions: Our cross-sectional findings indicate that smoking was one of the most powerful contributing variables to delinquent behavior, but family environment, personality, sex and age of adolescents were also proved to be strong exogenous variables to smoking in adolescents.
The authors intended to investigate personality characteristics and those influence on the outcome of cognitive behavioral therapy in patients with panic disorder. 167 patients who met DSM-IV criteria for panic disorder were assessed by the PDQ-R(Personality Disorder Questionnaire-Revision) and various self-report tools for assessing symptoms of panic disorder. The effect of therapy was measured by the changes of scores and the end state functioning before and after 12-sessions of CBT. The patients with panic disorder were more likely showed obsessive-compulsive, avoidant and paranoid personality disorder and also Cluster C. If is needed when patients were divided into two groups according to total scores of PDQ-R(high or low personality disorder groups), high personality disorder group showed many evidences for increased psychopathology at the start of treatments, this suggested the close linkage between panic disorder and personality disorder. Interestingly, there were no significant differences between both groups in scores of clinical variables and the end state functioning. In conclusion, although patients with high tendency of personality disorder had more generalized problems at the beginning of treatments, they could improve as much as the patients with low tendency of personality disorder. They can be helped by cognitive behavioral therapy for panic disorder and seem to profit as much as patients with low tendency of personality disorder. If is needed to seek other factors in poor responders for cognitive behavioral therapy.
In this dissertation I have interest in the personality classification in order to recognize the personlity classification in order to recognize the tenfency of the mentality and the action. This paper compare the temperament of Sasangin(四象人) by Lee Je Ma(李濟馬) and The Psychological Types of C. G. Jung. As a result I get the following conclusions:1. Sasang understood that Sassangin have original tendency of the mentality. But C. G. Jung understood man has all of the four psychological type though they have discrepancy among them.2. In the function of the mentality, the both are similar.3. The mentality of So-Eum-In(少陰人) is similar to The Type of Thinking. The mentality of So-Yang-In(少陽人) is simliar to The Type of Feeling. The mentality of Tae-Eum-In(太陰人) is similar to The Type of Sensation. The mentality of Tae-Yang-In(太陽人) is similar to The Type of Intuition.4. The tendency of the mentality by the personality classification is of some use in the oriental medical therapy.5. For using the tendency of the mentality in oriental medical psychotherapy, they require more studies.
The objective of this study was to evaluate college students’dietary and health behaviors in relation to their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality preferences. Dietary and health behaviors were surveyed for 444 college students who performed the MBTI personality test. Only 6.1% of the subjects regularly had three meals a day, while 27.1% ate breakfast every day. Fifty-six point nine percent of the students took less than 15 minutes to eat a meal and had the habit of eating fast. The number of food groups they ate was, on average, 2.74 and was eaten mainly at dinner. This showed that college students did not eat a large variety of foods. Eighty-two percent of the subjects drank alcoholic beverages, 21.4% smoked, and 69.3% exercised. In addition, 73.9% of them were not satisfied with their body image, but they were not eager to try weight control. There were not many significant differences between Extraversion (E)-Introversion (I), Sensing (S)-iNtuition (N), and Thinking (T)-Feeling (F) in their dietary and heath behaviors, although some gender differences existed. Significantly better dietary and health behaviors were shown in subjects preferring Judging (J) rather than Perceiving (P). There behaviors included eating breakfast, regularly eating three meals a day, smoking less, exercising more and having a lower tendency to night-eating. The personality preference of J-P could be useful index for nutritional education and counseling or behavior modification programs for obese people.
The purpose of the current study is to examine the role of mothers' personality traits in predicting their parenting stress. The study subjects were married working woman who live at Gyeonggi-do and has their first child studying in elementary, middle, or high school. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The results were as follows.: First, it has been shown through examination of the general tendency of observation subjects' relative factor, that many have above average parenting stress. The compositing factor for parenting stress were mainly the burden and distress of the parent role. Second, the differences in parenting stress were affected by relative variables in accordance with the general features of the study object. If the younger the parent, the higher the education, the lower the age of the first child, and if there were a child assistant after school, the parenting stress became larger. Third, after controlling for demographic characteristics, employed mothers' neuroticism significantly predicted greater parenting stress. When mothers had more conscientiousness and openness, they reported less parenting stress which implied that interpretation and perception of child rearing experiences can vary depending on personality and predict parenting stress of working mothers.

To study the personality characteristics of alcoholic patients, they were screned with the MAST(Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test) and administered with the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory) in the Dept. of Neuropsychiatry, Oriental Medical Hospital in Kyung Hee Univ. form March 1991 to June 1991. Patients admitted for alcoholism were examined and analyzed using the above tests and then studied by Sasang Constitutional approach. Results were as follows; 1. In the MAST score, the cases of obvious alcohol dependence was 53.3% and overall mean score was 28.1 point. 2. In the MMPI scale, the mean of the T-scores for 2(D)-4(Pd) profile was high, but it was not statistically significant. 3. The results obtained by multivariate cluster analysis of MMPI T-scores can be divided into 3 subgroups; 1) 9% showed the psychiatric tendency of F-6(Pa)-9(Ma)profile, 2) 44.2% showed no significant profile, 3)46.5% showed the neurotic tendency of 1(Hs)-2(D)-3(Hy)-4(Pd) profile. 4. Since 44.2% showed no significant profile on the MMPI, much more alcoholic patients were caused not by personality factors but by social tolerance, and also by increasing apportunities of drinking in Korean society. 5. When analyzed with Sasang Constituional approach, 1) for the Soyangin (少陽人): 6(Pa) scale was particularly high, 1(Hs) and 3(Hy) scales were low compared to others, 2) for the Taiumin(太陰人): 1(Hs)-2(D)-3(Hy)-4(Pd) neurotic profile was high, the K-scale and 4(Pd)scale were high compared to the Soyangin, 3) for the Soumin(少陰人): 1(Hs)-2(D)-3(Hy)-4(Pd) neurotic profile and 7(Pt) scale were also high.
