  • In this paper, delay-constrained data transmission is considered over error-prone networks. Network coding is deployed for efficient information exchange, and an approximate decoding approach is deployed to overcome potential all-or-nothing problems. Our focus is on determining the cluster size and its impact on approximate decoding performance. Decoding performance is quantified, and we show that performance is determined only by the number of packets. Moreover, the fundamental tradeoff between approximate decoding performance and data transfer rate improvement is analyzed; as the cluster size increases, the data transfer rate improves and decoding performance is degraded. This tradeoff can lead to an optimal cluster size of network coding-based networks that achieves the target decoding performance of applications. A set of experiment results confirms the analysis.

  • We propose an analytic model to compute the station's saturated throughput and packet delay performance of the IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) in which frame transmission error rates in the channel are different from each other. Our analytic model shows that a station experiencing worse frame error rates than the others suffers severe performance degradation below its deserved throughput and delay performance. 802.11 DCF adopts an exponential back-off scheme. When some stations suffer from high frame error rates, their back-off stages should be increased so that others get the benefit from the smaller collision probabilities. This impact is then recursively applied to degrade the performance of the victim stations. In particular, we show that the performance is considerably degraded even if the frame error rate of the victim station satisfies the receiver input level sensitivity that has been specified in the IEEE 802.11 standard. We also verify the analytic results by the OPNET simulations.

  • This study was performed to apply the measurement of heart rate and velocity in training horses for assessing race performance. Additionally, we aimed to identify parameters that can be used to evaluate the training level and exercise capacity. Eleven healthy 2- to 6-year-old Thoroughbreds were trained by the standard training program and heart rate and velocity were measured by using heart monitoring system and GPS. Regression analysis in heart rate and velocity data was performed to calculate velocity parameters. The mean maximal heart rate in gallop was $214{\pm}11bpm$. The mean $V_{140}$, $V_{180}$, $V_{200}$ and $VHR_{max}$ were $13.8{\pm}4.3km/h$, $37.5{\pm}3.8km/h$, $49.3{\pm}4.3km/h$ and $57.4{\pm}7.1km/h$ respectively. The mean $V_{140}$ of high performance racehorses was significantly higher than that of low performance racehorses (P < 0.05). Moreover, analyzing the correlation between velocity parameters and racing ability-related categories showed that $V_{140}$ was positively correlated with rating (P < 0.05), $V_{180}$ and $VHR_{max}$ were positively correlated with prize money per race (P < 0.05). Also, $V_{140}$ was significantly correlated with G1F (P < 0.05). The results of this study have shown that the measurement of heart rate and velocity during training could be useful methods to assess fitness for races or performance potential. Especially, $V_{140}$ is a good parameter to evaluate a performance of racehorses in Korea.

  • In this paper, the performance of a hybrid value predictor according to the instruction fetch rate on window size superscalar processors is evaluated. In general, the data dependency relations of instructions are increased with the number of the fetched instructions. Therefore, it is expected that the performance of a value predictor will be higher when the instruction fetch rate is increased. The performance is studied for the machine with collapsing buffer and he one with trace cache as an instruction fetch mechanism. As a result of experiment, it is showed that the performance effect of a value predictor is higher as the instruction fetch rate of instruction window size, IPC, predict rate on apply with non-tc and tc is increased.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of lower numbers of sperm $(3{\times}10^9)$ per dose liquid semen and type of semen used in artificial insemination (AI) on sow reproductive performance in subtropical area. Semen was supplied by two commercial AI centers. A total of 671 female pigs from seven farms were inseminated with either $3{\times}10^9$ or $5{\times}10^9$ sperm per dose. Two types of semen were used: heterospermic semen from two boars of the same breed and homospermic semen from a single boar. After insemination, conception rate, farrowing rate, total litter size, and number of dead piglets were recorded. The analysis of variance indicated that there was no significant effect of interactions between pig farm, type of semen, or number of sperm on any of the traits measured. There were significant differences in conception rate, farrowing rate, and total litter size among pig farms (p<0.05). The effect of number of sperm per dose liquid semen ($3{\times}10^9$ or $5{\times}10^9$) was not significant. Sows inseminated with homospermic semen showed significantly higher conception and farrowing rates but significantly lower total litter size (p<0.05). In conclusion, the number of sperm per dose liquid semen for AI could be lowered to $3{\times}10^9 $ without affecting reproductive performance in subtropical areas like Taiwan.

  • Multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) system has attracted the 4th generation wireless network as one of core technique for performance enrichment. In this system rate control is a challenging problem and another problem is optimization. Proper scheduling can resolve these problems by deciding which set of user and at which rate the users send their data. This paper proposes a new multi-parameter based scheduling (MPS) for downlink multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system under space-time block coding (STBC) transmissions. Goal of this MPS scheme is to offer improved link level performance in terms of a low average bit error rate (BER), high packet delivery ratio (PDR) with improved resource utilization and service fairness among the user. This scheme allows the set of users to send data based on their channel quality and their demand rates. Simulation compares the MPS performance with other scheduling scheme such as fair scheduling (FS), normalized priority scheduling (NPS) and threshold based fair scheduling (TFS). The results obtained prove that MPS has significant improvement in average BER performance with improved resource utilization and fairness as compared to the other scheduling scheme.

  • The research aims to study the relationship between export performance and stock return of Vietnamese fishery companies. To conduct this study, quarterly data was collected for period from 2010-2018 of 13 fishery companies listing in Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) and Ha Noi Stock Exchange (HNX). The export performance was measured by export intensity, export growth and export market coverage. In addition, interest rate, exchange rate, GDP, firm size, profitability, and financial leverage were considered as the control variables in the research model. Panel data analysis with Generalized Least Squares model was employed to estimate the predictive regression. The findings indicated that export intensity and export growth have a significant and positive relationship with stock returns. However, export market coverage has not a significant relationship with stock return at the 0.05 level. Profitability, financial leverage, and exchange rate have a positive relationship, while interest rate and GDP have no relation to stock return at the 0.05 significance level. The findings imply that investors should consider the export intensity instead of export growth and export market coverage as selecting stock of fishery exports firms to invest; managers should increase export intensity to increase company's stock price or firm market value.

  • This paper showed the convergence rate and the performance of interference cancellation using Applebaum and DMI algorithms in adaptive sidelobe canceller. Applebaum algorithm is used widely due to simplicity but it has a slow convergence rate and the problem of eigenvalue spread. DMI algorithm converges rapidly but has computational load and hardware complexity. We compared the performance and complexity using Applebaum and DMI algorithms in Adaptive SLC that requires rapid convergence rate and the performance and conclude that DMI algorithm is more efficient for adaptive SLC.

  • This paper outlines how the on-line performance monitoring system can be used to improve the efficiency and maintenance of the equipments. And a method of the heat rate allocation to each equipment was suggested to monitor the performance of combined cycle power plants. This calculates the expected heat rate of current conditions and compares it with actual values. Loss allocation in heat rate is reconciled by calculating the magnitude of the deficiency contributed by major components, such as the gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, steam turbine and condenser. Expected power output is determined by a detailed model and correction curves of the plant. This simulation models are found to reproduce high accuracy in behavior of the cycle for various operating conditions, both in design and in off-design condition. Errors are lower than 2% in most cases.

  • An unsteady internal ballistic performance model was proposed to take account for the variance of local regression rate along the grain port of a hybrid rocket combustor. The characteristic parameters of hybrid rocket motor was investigated. The performance model of concern in the study was fairly comparable with the test result. The combustion coefficients and local burning characteristics of a hybrid rocket motor were evaluated. The local variation of the oxidizer mass flow rate results in the changes of local regression rate, pressure, temperature, and gas velocity to flow direction, which was analyzed quantitatively.
