  • The performance of an isolated horizontally curved continuous bridge with High Damping Rubber (HDR) Bearings has been investigated under seismic loading conditions. The effectiveness of response controls of the bridge by HDR bearings for various aspects viz. variation in ground motion characteristics, multi-directional effect, level of earthquake shaking, varying incidence angle, have been determined. Three recorded ground motions, representative of historical earthquakes along with near-field, far-field and forward directivity effects, have been considered in the study. The efficacy of the bearings with bidirectional effect considering interaction behavior of bearing and pier has also been investigated. Modeling and analysis of the bridge have been done by finite element approach. Sensitivity studies of the bridge response with respect to design parameters of the bearings for the considered ground motions have been performed. The importance of the nonlinearity of HDR bearings along with crucial design parameters has been identified. It has been observed that the HDR bearings performed well in different variations of ground motions, especially for controlling torsional moment. However, the deck displacement has been found to be increased significantly in case of Turkey ground motions, considering forward directivity effect, which needs to be paid more attention from designer point of view.

  • Various seismic isolation and reduction devices have been applied to suppress the longitudinal vibration of continuous girder bridges. As representative devices, lead rubber bearing (LRB) and fluid viscous damper (FVD) might suffer from deterioration during the long-term service. This study aims to evaluate the impact of device deterioration on the seismic responses of continuous girder bridges and investigate the seismic behavior of deteriorated LRBs and FVDs. Seismic performance of a simplified bridge model was investigated, and the influence of device deterioration was evaluated by the coefficient of variation method. The contribution of LRB and FVD was assessed by the Sobol global sensitivity analysis method. Finally, the seismic behaviors of deteriorated LRBs and FVDs were discussed. The result shows that (i) the girder-pier relative displacement is the most sensitive to the changes in the deterioration level, (ii) the deterioration of FVD has a greater effect on the structural responses than that of LRB, (iii) FVD plays a major role in energy dissipation with a low degradation level while LRB is more essential in dissipating energy when suffering from high degradation level, (iv) the deteriorated devices are more likely to reach the ultimate state and thus be damaged.

  • Construction projects are high-risk activities. When undertaking such projects in an international setting, it can be complicated by foreign exchange (FOREX) fluctuation risk. This affects the construction business performance in various ways, namely its progress due to delays, which in turn create further problems, specifically cost overruns as a result of price increase in raw materials, disputes, arbitration, litigation and even, total abandonment. Thus, the effective management of FOREX fluctuations is crucial. Previous studies have focused on the need for contract safeguards, adequate insurance, careful planning and management, as well as foreign exchange futures hedging to address some of the risks triggered by FOREX fluctuations. An analysis of FOREX fluctuations in the international construction industry revealed that more often it was focused on project-specific issues. Currently, there is a relative lack of awareness on Organizational Capabilities (OC), the abilities that owned by the organization, which is essential in managing the impact of FOREX fluctuations. Where research has focused on OC, these are viewed in isolation. Therefore, this study attempts to close the gap by proposing a framework on managing the impact of FOREX fluctuations in the international construction industry, employing the OC perspective.

  • ARM processors, utilized in mobile devices, have integrated the hardware isolation framework, TrustZone technology, to implement two execution environments: the trusted domain "Secure World" and the untrusted domain "Normal World". Rootkit is a type of malicious software that gains administrative access and hide its presence to create backdoors. Detecting the presence of a rootkit in a Secure World is difficult since processes running within the Secure World have no memory access restrictions and are isolated. This paper proposes a technique that leverages the hardware based PMU(Performance Monitoring Unit) to measure events of the Secure World rootkit and to detect the rootkit using deep learning.

  • The pixel size in high-resolution complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors continues to shrink due to chip size limitations. However, the pixel pitch's miniaturization causes deterioration of optical performance. As one solution, a quad color filter (CF) array with pixel binning has been developed to enhance sensitivity. For high sensitivity, the microlens structure also needs to be optimized as the CF arrays change. In this paper, the covered microlens, which consist of four microlenses covered by one large microlens, are proposed for the quad CF array in the backside illumination pixel structure. To evaluate the optical performance, the suggested microlens structure was simulated from 0.5 ㎛ to 1.0 ㎛ pixels at the center and edge of the sensors. Moreover, all pixel structures were compared with and without in-pixel deep trench isolation (DTI), which works to distribute incident light uniformly into each photodiode. The suggested structure was evaluated with an optical simulation using the finite-difference time-domain method for numerical analysis of the optical characteristics. Compared to the conventional microlens, the suggested microlens show 29.1% and 33.9% maximum enhancement of sensitivity at the center and edge of the sensor, respectively. Therefore, the covered microlens demonstrated the highly sensitive image sensor with a quad CF array.

  • In this paper, the 94 GHz, low conversion loss, and high isolation single balanced mixer is designed and fabricated using GaAs-based metamorphic high electron mobility transistors (MHEMTs) with 70 nm gate length and the hybrid ring coupler with the micromachined transmission lines, dielectric-supported air-gapped microstrip lines (DAMLs). The 70 nm MHEMT devices exhibit DC characteristics with a drain current density of 607 mA/mm an extrinsic transconductance of 1015 mS/mm. The current gain cutoff frequency ($f_T$) and maximum oscillation frequency ($f_{max}$) are 320 GHz and 430 GHz, respectively. The fabricated hybrid ring coupler shows wideband characteristics of the coupling loss of $3.57{\pm}0.22dB$ and the transmission loss of $3.80{\pm}0.08dB$ in the measured frequency range of 85 GHz to 105 GHz. This mixer shows that the conversion loss and isolation characteristics are $2.5dB{\sim}>2.8dB$ and under -30 dB, respectively, in the range of $93.65GHz{\sim}94.25GHz$. At the center frequency of 94 GHz, this mixer shows the minimum conversion loss of 2.5 dB at a LO power of 6 dBm To our knowledge, these results are the best performances demonstrated from 94 GHz single balanced mixer utilizing GaAs-based HEMTs in terms of conversion loss as well as isolation characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of two kinds of Master and Chief Engineer's communication style on group conflicts and members' attitude including job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and to analyze the moderating effect of the isolation from home and community on the relation between the both of communication styles and the several behavioral variables in ship organization. This empirical result demonstrates the fact that Master and Chief Engineer's direct communication with crew has lower conflict and higher job satisfaction and organizational commitment than their indirect one through Chief Officer and First Engineer. In addition, it illustrates the isolation from home only effects moderately on the relation between the communication style and group conflict, and also the direct communication style reduces more the conflict in the group to show less isolation from home. To conclude, this study reveals that job satisfaction and organization commitment could be heightened by proper communication style of Master and Chief Engineer and it would utilize the job performance of ship organization in the long-term.

  • An effective method for isolation of the major components of ginseng saponin such as $ginsenoside-Rb_{1},\;-Rb_2,$ -Rc, -Rd, -Re and $-Rg_1$, and the minor components such as ginsenoside-Rf, $-Rg_2,\;and-Rh_1$, was developed and reported in previous papers (J. Korean Agr. Chem. Soc., 23(4), 199 and 206(1980) The conditions and procedures used for isolation and identification for ginsenosides described in the previous papers were not sufficient enough for clean separation of minor components, $ginsenoside-Rh_1,\;and-Rh_2$. In this work, modifications in extraction method and in mobile phase for HPLC were attempted. It was found that application of ethyl acetate extraction at $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr on crude saponin resulted in a removal of diol group saponin from crude saponin which made it possible for using higher portion of acetonitrile in mobile phase. The mixed solvents of acetonitrile : water (92 : 8 and 94 : 6) gave excellent resolution of $ginsenoside-Rh_1\;and\;-Rh_2$.

  • Scientific community agrees about the fact that base Isolation provides interesting solutions to minimize the seismic risk. Reliability of such a technique is nowadays proofed by a large number of applications like public buildings, nuclear plants, bridges, etc. This paper reports the results of performance verification tests of the base isolated RC building with the laminated rubber bearings which is manufactured by enterprise in Korea. The shaking table tests were performed using a three story model scaled to 1/3 of the prototype RC apartment building. Several major earthquake records were scaled to different peak ground accelerations and used as input base excitations. Especially in this study, effect of earthquake characteristics on response reduction and effect of the intensity of excitations are studied. Through the verification tests, the validity of the applied base isolaion device and the response reduction effect against earthquakes are confirmed.

  • Performance test was carried out between selective media which are generally used in Staphylococcus aureus isolation from food. Sensitivity, determined according to the appearance of characteristic colonies when 30 different S. aureus strains were tested, resulted as Baird-Parker agar (RPF)> $Petrifilm^{TM}$ Staph Express plate> Baird-Parker agar> Mannitol salt agar. Also, the four different media showed the same selectivity because all tested media did not produce the false positive colonies. Recovery efficiency from the artificially inoculated foodstuff was almost the same for the tested media. Presumptive colonies were collected from the dried fishery product using Mannitol salt agar and collected strains were tested on 4 different selective agar. Almost presumptive strains did not show the false positive colonies except for S. carnosus ssp carnosus. This strain was identified as false positive colonies on Mannitol salt agar, Baird-Parker agar and $Petrifilm^{TM}$ Staph Express plate. But Baird-Parker agar (RPF) did not show the false positive colonies with the same strains. So, it was concluded that the Baird-Parker agar (RPF) has more higher selectivity than other tested media in this experiment.
