  • Recent concerns regarding protecting, identifying, isolating, redundant routing and dewatering of subsystems of water distribution networks have led to the realization of the importance of valves in these systems. Valves serve two purposes namely, flow and pressure control and isolating subsystems due to breakage or contaminant containment. In this paper, valves are considered from the point of view of subsystem isolation. When a water main is required to be closed, it may be in general necessary to close several other pipes in addition to the broken pipe itself depending on the distribution of adjacent valves. This set of pipes is defined as a segment. In this paper a segment analysis for isolating pipes is present and based on the segment analysis, we suggested the Valve Importance Index and the 7 performance indicators to evaluate the system performance. The suggested methodology is applied to a real network to verify the applicability of the methodology.

  • This paper evaluates the performance of a Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluid mount. The mount incorporates MR fluid in a conventional fluid mount to open and closed the inertia track between the fluid chambers of the mount. It is shown that such switching of the inertia track improves the mount's isolation effect, by eliminating the large transmissibility peak that commonly exists at frequencies higher than the notch frequency for conventional fluid mounts. The switching frequencies of the MR mount is evaluated, based on the parameters of the mount. A simple control scheme for switching the mount between the open and closed states is proposed, and the performance of the controlled mount is compared with conventional mounts. A sensitivity analysis is conducted to evaluate the effect of parameter errors in estimating the switching frequencies and mount performance. The results show that the switching frequencies can be accurately determined from mount parameters that are easily measured or estimated.

  • To improve the performance of MEMS devices, fabricating single-crystalline silicon HARS (high aspect ratio structure) with thicknesses of up to several tens of micrometers has been an active research topic in recent years. However, achieving electrical isolation, which is required for actuating a structure or sensing an electrical signal, has been one of the main problems in single-crystalline silicon HARS fabrication technologies. In this paper, new isolation technologies using high aspect ratio oxide beams and sidewalls are developed to achieve electrical isolation between electrodes of single-crystalline silicon HARS. The developed isolation technologies use insulating oxide structural supports from either the structural sides or from the bottom. In this case because the trench oxide supports have a depth of several tens of ${\mu}m$, the effects of residual stress must be considered. In this paper, insulating supports are fabricated using PECVD TEOS films, the residual stress of the insulating supports is measured, and the effect of the residual stress on the structure is analyzed. It is shown using microresonators, that the developed isolation technologies can be effectively used for HARS using single-crystalline silicon.

  • The earthquake-resistant structural systems have to ensure the sufficient stiffness and ductility for the stability. For those purposes, recently, the performance design concept to increase the degree of absorbed energy level of structures has been proposed. One practical way of the performance design in the spatial structures is to apply the isolation system to boundary parts of roof system and sub-structure to obtain the target performance. So, it is necessary to examine the characteristics of dynamic behavior of spatial structures governed by higher modes rather than lower modes different from the cases of high rise buildings. The objectives of this paper are to develop the equivalent lumped mass model to simplify the analytical processes and to investigate the dynamic behavior of roof system according to the mass and the stiffness of sub-structures as a fundamental study of performance design for the spatial structures.

  • In-flight aircraft engine performance estimation is one of the key techniques for advanced intelligent engine control and in-flight fault detection, isolation and accommodation. This paper detailed the current performance degradation estimation methods, and an improved hybrid Kalman filter via velocity-based LPV (VLPV) framework for these needs is proposed in this paper. Composed of a nonlinear on-board model (NOBM) and VLPV, the filter shows a hybrid architecture. The outputs of NOBM are used for the baseline of the VLPV Kalman filter, while the system performance degradation factors on-line estimated by the measured real system output deviations are fed back to the NOBM for its updating. In addition, the setting of the process and measurement noise covariance matrices' values are also discussed. By applying it to a commercial turbofan engine, simulation results show the efficiency.

  • To determine the impact of long-term social distancing and isolation from COVID-19 on the area of adult occupational performance, targeting adults in their 20s to 60s distributed nationwide for 2 months from November 2020 to December 2020. A questionnaire based on the occupational therapy execution system was constructed and investigated. A total of 270 people responded to the questionnaire, and the survey method was an online questionnaire. As a result of the analysis, there were significant differences in both occupational performance and satisfaction before and after COVID-19 in 33 (75%) of 45 items in 9 areas of the occupational performance area. There were significant changes in performance and satisfaction by age group in all age groups in health management, social participation, leisure, and work. In particular, those in their twenties showed the greatest change in performance and satisfaction in the leisure domain, while those in their 30s and 60s showed the greatest change in both the performance and satisfaction in the leisure domain. Along with these changes, the survey subjects recognized that their occupational performance and satisfaction were lower than before COVID-19 was a problem and confirmed that they are willing to improve. As COVID-19 is still a pandemic, it is necessary to involve experts in each area and follow-up studies to improve the differences by occupational performance area and age, which have changed due to long-term social distancing and isolation.

  • Anthocyanins are water soluble plant pigments which are responsible for the blue, red, pink, violet colors in several plant organs such as flowers, fruits, leaves and roots. In recent years, anthocyanin-rich foods have been favored as dietary supplements and health care products due to diverse biological activities of anthocyanins including antioxidant, anti-allergic, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anti-cancer and preventing cardiovascular disease. High-performance countercurrent chromatography (HPCCC) coupled with reversed-phase medium pressure liquid chromatography (RP MPLC) method was applied for the rapid and efficient isolation of cyanidin 3-glucoside (C3G) and peonidin 3-glucoside (P3G) from black rice (Oryza sativa L., Poaceae). The crude black rice extract (500 mg) was subjected to HPCCC using two-phase solvent system composed of tert-butyl methyl ether/n-butanol/ acetonitrile/0.01% trifluoroacetic acid (TBME/B/A/0.01% TFA, 1 : 3 : 1 : 5, v/v, flow rate - 4.5 mL/min, reversed phase mode) to give enriched anthocyanin extract (37.4 mg), and enriched anthocyanin extract was sequentially chromatographed on RP-MPLC to yield C3G (16.5 mg) and P3G (8.7 mg). The recovery rate and purity of isolated C3G were 76.0% and 98.2%, respectively, and those of P3G were 58.3% and 96.3%, respectively. The present study indicates that HPCCC coupled with RP-MPLC method is more rapid and efficient than multi-step conventional column chromatography for the separation of anthocyanins.

  • The electrical design of the Ka-band antenna for the domestic Communications and Broadcasting Satellite (CBS) is described. The antenna has the offset Gregorian structure and is installed on the Earth-facing panel of the satellite. The electrical performance specifications for the antenna were determined from the required EIRP and G/T through the payload level performance analysis. This paper utilized the reflector shaping technology for the trade-off among the major performance parameters, resulting in compliance of all the parameters. The designed antenna shows 37.95 dBi EOC (End of Coverage) gain and 28.7 dB sidelobe isolation for transmit band, and 37.49 dBi EOC gain and 31.1 dB sidelobe isolation for receive band, The electrical performances of the antenna have been verified via the electrical testing of a manufactured EQM (Engineering Qualification Model) antenna.
