The purpose of this study was to investigate between learning styles and communication apprehension of Engineering students. Participants were 405 first-year Engineering cohort. Following were the results: First, 80 percent were classified as Reflective learners, 61 percent were classified as Sensing learners, 73.1 percent were classified as Visual learners, and 66.7 percent were classified as Global learners. Second, the result showed that there was a significant difference in learning style by gender. Most female learners were Reflective, while most male learners were Active. Lastly, the finding revealed that there were significant differences in communication apprehension on Perception and Processing dimension. Sensing students demonstrated higher level of communication apprehension than Intuitive students and Reflective students shown higher level of communication apprehension than Active students. For the program developing Engineering students' communication skills, implications for reducing students' communication apprehension based on the type of learning styles were discussed.
This paper presents an effective representation scheme for the shape analysis of the hippocampal structure and a stereoscopic-haptic environment to enhance sense of realism. The parametric model and the 3D skeleton represent various types of hippocampal shapes and they are stored in the Octree data structure. So they can be used for the interactive shape analysis. And the 3D skeleton-based pose normalization allows us to align a position and an orientation of the 3D hippocampal models constructed from multimodal medical imaging data. We also have trained Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classifying between the normal controls and epileptic patients. Results suggest that the presented representation scheme provides various level of shape representation and the SVM can be a useful classifier in analyzing the shape differences between two groups. A stereoscopic-haptic virtual environment combining an auto-stereoscopic display with a force-feedback (or haptic) device takes an advantage of 3D applications for medicine because it improves space and depth perception.

The 21st century society is becoming globalized rapidly due to mass immigration and South Korea has become a multicultural nation since 2007 with over one million foreigners living here. Due to these social environmental changes, there was a need to provide multicultural programs and services in public libraries. In order to develop multicultural library services, we need to look into what librarians and users of public libraries know of the existing services. We assumed that comparing the two groups, librarians and users, and establishing a fit model would be the most effective way to provide information. According to the survey, there were differences in understanding between the two groups. By providing services that help fill in the gap, public libraries could be closer to multicultural families, and help them become integrated into Korean society. We have presented a multicultural service model based on the results of the survey.

Background: Unmet healthcare needs have many advantages for measuring inequalities in healthcare use. However, the existing indicator is difficult to capture the reality of unmet healthcare needs sufficiently and is not quite appropriate in comparing regional inequality. The purpose of this study is to critically analyze the utilization of the unmet healthcare need indicator for regional healthcare inequalities research. Methods: We used the level of healthcare accessibility and healthcare need to categorize the regions that are known to cause differences in healthcare utilization between regions and verified how existing unmet healthcare need indicator is distributed at the regional level. Results: Four types of regions were classified according to the high and low levels of healthcare needs and accessibility. The hypothesis about the regional type expected to have the highest unmet healthcare need was not proved. The hypothesis about the lowest expected regional type was proved, but the difference in the average rate of unmet healthcare needs among regional types was not significant. The standard deviation of the rate of unmet healthcare needs among regions within the same type was also higher than the overall regional variation, which also disproved the whole frame of hypothesis. Conclusion: Failure to prove the hypothesis means the gap between the supposed meaning of the indicator and the reality. In order to understand the current state of healthcare utilization of people in various regions of Korea and to resolve inequality, fundamental research on the in-depth structure and mechanisms of healthcare utilization is needed.

The purpose of this study was to general needs and identify the educational needs for teaching competency of home economics teachers. based on their perception on teaching competency revealed in Previous studies. Data were collected from 1,104 schools selected by stratified sampling. based on school district, ranking and size. The 616 items of survey materials were collected from 417 schools and the levels of importance and performance were measured on Likert scale with 7- and 5- points, respectively. The analysis reveled that the educational needs for improving teaching competency were high in the following three areas out of seven areas. 1) interfacing ability with the local community and diverse human resources. 2) ability managing space and materials for learning 3) ability diversifying lesson development and evaluation ability. In addition. diversifying and professionalizing present development program for home economics teachers made higher score than improving education program for home economics teachers. These two needs of teachers showed significant differences according to their educational experiences and foundation types of their schools.

How consumers perceives Korean heritage is the most essential motivation to purchase traditional products. This study investigates if there is a difference in the value perception of traditional culture on preferences for and the long-term relationship of Hanboks. It also investigates differences in the preference and consumption behavior of Hanboks depending on the degree of experience for Hanbok. For this research purpose, data were collected from 745 residents between the ages of 20-60 in the Seoul and metropolitan areas through online and offline surveys. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and path analysis, using the SPSS-WIN 20.0, AMOS 20.0 program. The value recognition toward traditional culture derived aesthetic and symbolic factors. The result of grouping according to the experience of the Hanbok indicated that the two groups of traditional cultural values influenced preferences for Hanboks. In the middle group, only the symbolic value had a significant influence on the preference of Hanbok. It was found that the less experienced group had no traditional culture value factor which had a significant effect on the preferences for Hanboks. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to be used as basic data to establish a marketing strategy to increase the preferences for traditional culture such as Hanboks by increasing various traditional culture experiences as well as Hanboks.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate personality type with evoked potentials. Teenage students(121 males, 69 females) tested Myers Briggs Type Indicator and raven like discrimination task by evoked potential. Raven like discrimination tasks were made of low, medium and high levels. Conclusively extraversion and introversion while accomplishing the raven like discrimination tasks, showed the significant difference between two groups in the power of concentration. M-Beta(middle beta), Gamma and H-Beta(high beta) were also appeared significant differences between two groups. The sensing and intuition type partially appeared the different tendency of two groups while accomplishing easy and medium of difficulty tasks. Thinking and Feeling type while accomplishing raven like discrimination tasks, showed difference of the concentration power and H-Beta at Fp1. But judgment and perception type did not appear the difference between two groups while accomplishing raven like discrimination tasks of low, medium, and high. These results implied that the personality type can be affected brain wave by evoked potentials.
We have witnessed several kinds of new discourses and practices in health and medicine since the 1970s, such as popular concerns with alternative or complementary medicine, inordinate attention to the promotion of 'healthy' living, rapid resurrection of traditional medicine and ecological management of health. Four structural and situational factors are discussed to underlie these new trends:(i) as 'crisis' in health care of the 1970s was translated into health care reform of the 1980s backed up by neo-liberal political philosophy, the state responsibility for nation's health is being transferred to the individual ;(ii) it resulted from the limits of biomedical paradigm in dealing with chronic diseases;(iii) medico-scientific knowledge of disease is transformed into the subjective discourses and technologies of health in postmodern society ; and (iv) it is deeply associated with the considerable increase in environmental risk perception of health and disease. There are some inherent countervailing forces in these new discourses and practices. First, while they derive from lifestyle-oriented behavioral change, medicalization of life and death is still consolidated in the new trends. Second, inasmuch as new tides are reliant upon science, they. are likely to be remote from techne that means not the practical application of theoretical knowing but a special form of practical knowing. Third, as new discourses and activities accomplished'in the name of health'increasingly occupy important strategies in forming the self-identity, they serve as moral apparatus which involves prescriptions about how we should live our lives and conduct our bodies, both individually and collectively. Therefore, two points are suggested to consider seriously whether these streams will succeed in improving the‘healthy’living of all the people. Instead of limiting tile perspective to medicine, healing and health care, a new matrix that interweave welfare, ecology and labor along with them is timely needed for enhancing the health for all. In addition, as the World Health Report fm strongly shows, inequality in health heavily depends upon socio-economic development of a society, and it is not the richest countries that have the best health status, but those that have the smallest income differences between rich and poor.
This study was conducted to find out factors affecting patient safety management activities at nursing devisions of two university hospitals. The indicators of patient safety activities used in the study were selected from Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture which was developed by The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in the United States. Data were collected from 372 nurses working at inpatient wards at two university hospitals located in Seoul and Won-Ju cities through the self-administered questionnaires, and analyzed using frequency analysis, t-test, correlation, and regression analysis. The result of this study were as follows. First, The mean of patient safety management activities was 3.41 which was a little bit higher than the average level. The mean of communication within the ward was the highest, whereas that of patient safety management culture was the lowest. Second, there were significant differences in the perception of nurses on patient safety management activities in terms of the educational background, length of employment, and work hours per week. Third, three variables of communication within the unit, attitude of top management, and attitude of nurses have significant positive effects on patient safety management activities. Fourth, 37.4% of the variation in the patient safety management activities was explained by the study variables. In conclusion, hospital administration and nursing managers should make an effort to learn the knowledge of patient safety program, show their deep interest on the patient safety to the employees and motivate them to communicate effectively each other within the work unit to develop a good patient safety culture and system.
The objective of this study were to (1) investigate the relationship between evaluations of apparel advertising, fashion involvement, and social attitudes, (2) examine how evaluation of apparel advertising, fashion involvement, and social attitudes vary according to gender, and (3) investigate the possible differences in purchase attitudes toward the advertised apparels according to gender and advertisement slogan. Questionnaire for evaluations of apparel advertising was comprised of four sections; apparel advertising acceptance, evaluation of advertisement slogan, purchase attitude toward the advertised apparels, and perception of effective media for apparel advertising. For evaluation of advertisement slogan, 5 sets of apparel advertisements were selected. Each set had two advertisements; one advertisement contained an image-oriented slogan, while the other had a quality-oriented slogan. "The Social Attitude Scale' by Kerlinger and 'Fashion Involvement Index' by Tigert, Ring & King were used. All the items were selected on the Cronbach's alpha reliability. The subjects were 217 college male and famale students in Seoul; 60 were asked about purchase attitude toward the image-oriented slogan, 60 purchase attitude toward the quality-oriented slogan, and 97 all the items included in evaluation of the two slogans. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient, X2-test, t-test, two-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study were the followings. 1. Fashion involvement had positive relationship with apparel advertising acceptance. The higher the level of conservative attitude males had, the more positive attitude they had in fashion involvement and apparel advertising acceptance. Subjects high in conservative attitude, fashion involvement, and apparel advertising acceptance. Subjects high in conservative attitude, fashion involvement, and apparel advertising acceptance had more positive in purchase of the advertised apparels. 2. Females high in apparel advertising acceptance were more favorable toward image-oriented advertisements. 3. Fashion involvement and apparel advertising acceptance were significantly higher in females than in males. Liberal attitude was significantly higher in males than in females. Evaluation of advertisement slogan did not differ according to gender. 4. Males perceived 'TV' was the most effective media for apparel advertising while females perceived 'display' was the most effective. 5. No significant interactions between advertisement slogan and gender were found in purchase attitude of the advertising apparels. 6. Apparel advertising acceptance was influenced by fashion involvement, social attitude, and sex. The explanatory power of the three variables was 17%.
