  • This study was performed to investigate the level of importance and performance of patient education perceived by patients and nurses. The subjects consisted of 108 patients and 106 nurses in one university-affiliated hospital in Daegu, from February 1 to February 5, 2002. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include the level of importance and performance of patient education. The data were analyzed by an SPSS program. 1) The level of importance of patient education perceived by patients and nurses was high, but the level of performance of patient education was relatively low. The level of importance and performance of patient education perceived by patients and nurses ranked as the highest in the area of diagnosis and treatment. 2) The level of importance and performance of patient education perceived by patients was not different according to general characteristics. The level of importance and performance of patient education perceived by nurses was different according to age and the working unit and the level of performance of patient education was different according to clinical career and job position. These results suggest that the level of importance of patient education perceived by patients and nurses was different to the level of performance of patient education perceived by them. Therefore nurses should actively provide patients with the educational program based on the importance of patient education perceived by patients.

  • This study aimed at investigating any differences perceived between the contractor and the contractee based on an importance-performance analysis (IPA) of foodservice quality attributes. Questionnaires were distributed to 200 personnel concerned in the Busan, Ulsan and Kyungnam areas and a total of 134 valid responses were used for analysis. Of the 23 foodservice quality attributes, the factors of 'food quality', 'employee service', 'hygiene and safety', 'customer orientation' and 'operation quality' were induced from a scale purification process through the exploratory factor analysis. The level of importance (p<0.01) of the 'hygiene and safety' factor and 'employee service' factor was not found to be significantly different between the groups. In the level of performance, the factors of 'food service', 'employee service', 'customer orientation' and 'operation quality' were found to be perceived significantly lower than expected by the contractor group. In the importance level, 'food quality', 'employee service', 'hygiene and safety', 'customer orientation' and 'operation quality' were rated by the contractor as 4.03, 4.30, 4.27, 4.01 and 4.12 points, respectively. In contrast, in the performance level, perceived 'food quality', 'employee service', 'hygiene and safety', 'customer orientation' and 'operation quality' were evaluated as 3.57, 3.94, 4.06, 3.83 and 3.95 points, respectively.

  • As the importance of strengthening the competency of managers who are in charge of cash collection and disbursement, and preparing for financial statements becomes more visible, this study examined the competency of middle-level managers of accounting department in general hospitals in Korea. Based on the literature, competency was measured by seven components: achievement and action, service, influence, management, cognition, individual effectiveness, and change management. Survey questionnaires included the respondents' perceived importance and performance of each of the seven components of competency. A total of 84 managers from 29 general hospitals responded to the survey between October 2015 and November 2015. Descriptive statistics, mean comparison (t-tests and ANOVAs), and multiple linear regression were conducted. The results of this study are as follows. Overall perceived importance of the competency was 4.16, while the performance was 3.87, and thus, the difference was 0.29. Among the seven components of the competency, cognition and change management had higher scores in terms of difference between the importance and performance. The regression analyses found that female managers had higher perceived importance and performance of competencies in achievement and action, and influence compared to male counterparts. In addition, participants in this study responded that main reasons for the gap between the perceived importance and performance are low compensation, lack of support, lack of knowledge, insufficient technical experience, excessive workload, and regulations. The results of this study can be used when designing capacity building training opportunities for the hospital accounting department. Also, the managers may evaluate themselves and look at the areas where they can narrow the gap between the perceived importance and performance of the competency that is required for today's leading managers.

Each participant completed the Multidimensional Health Locus of control(MHLC) scale (Wallsten & Wallston, 1978) and Health Behavior scale (developed by Dr. cho) The collected data were analyzed using Peason Correlation coefficient, t-test and Analusis of Variance. The results were as follows : 1. Hypothesis 2, stating that the higher the score of chance health locus of control, the lower the score of level of actual implementation of health behavior was not supported (r=-.1344, p>.05). 3. Hypothesis 3, stating that the higher the score of internal health locus of control, the higher the score of the level of perceived importance of health behavior was supported (r=.3373, p<.001). 4. • Purpose: To examine pressure ulcer care from the standpoints of perceived importance, educational needs, knowledge and performance among clinical nurses. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with a convenient sample of 289 nurses from four hospitals. Questionnaire data collected from June to August 2008 was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The mean scores of importance and educational needs concerning pressure ulcer care were high, performance was moderate, and knowledge was low. Knowledge level differed significantly according to career, performance differed significantly according to pressure ulcer care education and the main healer(the person primarily responsible for treatment). Perceived importance differed significantly according to the main healer, and educational needs differed significantly according to working area and the main healer. Significant correlations were evident between performance and importance, performance and educational needs, importance and knowledge, and importance and educational needs. Conclusion: Focus on perceived importance and educational needs to clinical nurses about pressure ulcer care may be beneficial to improve knowledge and practice of pressure ulcer care, and should be reflected in the development of effective programs to enhance relevant nursing skills.
