This study aimed to investigate the effects of red pepper seed powder on the physicochemical properties (pH, CIE color value, water holding capacity, dry yield, proximate composition, and shear force) of restructured chicken thigh jerky. The restructured chicken thigh jerky samples were prepared with the following amounts of red pepper seed powder [0% (control), 1%, 2%, and 3%]. Moisture contents of samples containing red pepper seed powder were significantly higher than those of control (P<0.05). The lightness, redness, and yellowness of samples an increased with an increase in red pepper seed powder. Water holding capacity and dry yield of samples increased with increasing concentration of red pepper seed powder. However, shear force of samples showed a downward trend with increasing red pepper seed powder level. The sensory evaluation of samples containing 3% red pepper seed powder were highest. The results indicate that red pepper seed powder could be enhance the physicochemical properties of restructured chicken thigh jerky.

This study was carried out to estimate growth characteristics of hot pepper and to develop predicted models for the production yield based on the growth parameters and climatic elements. Sigmoid regressions for the prediction of growth parameters in terms of fresh and dry weight, plant height, and leaf area were designed with growing degree days (GDD). The biomass and leaf expansion of hot pepper plants were rapidly increased when 1,000 and 941 GDD. The relative growth rate (RGR) of hot pepper based on dry weight was formulated by Gaussian's equation RGR $(dry\;weight)=0.0562+0.0004{\times}DAT-0.00000557{\times}DAT^2$ and the yields of fresh and dry hot pepper at the 112 days after transplanting were estimated 1,387 and 291 kg/10a, respectively. Results indicated that the growth and yield of hot pepper were predicted by potential growth model under plastic tunnel cultivation. Thus, those models need to calibration and validation to estimate the efficacy of prediction yield in hot pepper using supplement a predicting model, which was based on the parameters and climatic elements.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of fertigation level such as 50%, 75% and 100% N of standard amount of chemical fertilizer,m and fertigation interval such as every irrigation, intervals of 1 and 2 weeks of piggery waste water(PWW) on the growth, yield of red pepper plant and the chemical properties of soil used. In early stage, growth of red pepper plant fertigated with PWW and that of red pepper plant applicated standard chemical fertilezer was the same, while it were increased as increasing application amounts of PWW, and later growth and total yield of red pepper plant were much more at 75% N fertigation of PWW. Inorganic content such as nitrogen, phosphate and potassium and chlorophyll content of red pepper leaves were increased as increasing fergigation amount of PWW. 50% fertigation level showed the lowest rate of fruit setting of red peper plant. For soil chemical properties, pH was slightly decreased, but available $P_2O_5$, and exchangeable K content were increased as increasing fertigation amount of PWW. Because there was not statistically significant difference in the growth, the yield of red pepper and chemical properties of soil used according to various fertigation intervals, and no need to artificially supply PWW, therefore fertigation by simple automatic system with tensiometer was thought to be better.

This study was performed to figure out water consumption of the twisted sweet pepper in a greenhouse. Obtained results are as follows; 1. The ambient temperature was nearly same as the normal year, while the average air temperature and the relative humidity in the green house were little bit higher than those of the outside condition. The transparency of the greenhouse roof was approximately 50%. The total amount of rainfall during the irrigation period was 1,040㎜ which is 350㎜ higher than 1997 during the same period. 2. In case of pot cultivation, as the saturation ratio was increased, the aeaf area and plant height and yield were also increased. The yield from the field cultivation was higher than the average yield from the pot cultivations which are treated by three levels of saturation ratio. 3. The variation of daily consumptive use of the twisted sweet pepper was very large in it's range. In case of the pot cultivation, as the saturation was increased, the daily and the total consumptive use were increased. 4. The daily consumptive use was strongly correlated with the ambient temperature, while it was weakly correlated with the relative humidity and solar radiation. 5. There were close correlation between plant environment; leaf area, plant height and yield, and consumptive use. As the saturation ratio was increased, the correlation between those plant factors and consumptive use was getting stronger.
To determine the effect of winter green manure crops for tillage and no-tillage organic pepper cultivation in plastic film house, five different green manure crops were cultivated during winter season. In nutrition composition of green manure crops, total nitrogen contents were higher in Vicia hirsuta and Vicia angustifolia than any other crops. The average dry weights of green manure crops were 8.3 ton per ha in tillage and 7.0 ton per ha in no-tillage, among green manure crops that of Secale cereale was the highest. Fertilizer supply was depended on the biomass of the cultivated green manure crops and nutrition contents, total nitrogen supply of V. angustifolia was 226 kg and that of S. cereale was 251 kg per ha in tillage field. In no-tillage field, N-supply of V. angustifolia was 197 kg and that of S. cereale was 222 kg per ha. In yield components of red pepper, fruit numbers per plant were 55.5 in green manure crop tillage and 37.0 in no-tillage cultivation. Among green manure crops, the yield of dried red pepper was the highest for V. angustifolia in both green manure crop tillage and no-tillage cultivation.
To evaluate the damage of broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks), on pepper growth and yield, broad mite females were infested on pepper seedlings. In plots infested with 1, 2, and 5 females/plant, pepper growth was significantly reduced after 10 weeks with growth rates of 264, 256, and 177%, respectively, while that of control plot was 337%. Total pepper yields in the plots infested with 1, 2, and 5 females/plant were 443.9, 230. 5, and 103.4 kg/lOa, respectively, which were significantly lower than 1, 197.5 kg/lOa of the control plot. Dicofol EC, Chinomethionat WP, Pyridaben WP, and Pyraclofos WP were effective in controlling the broad mite on pepper showing over 90% mortality by 17 days after application. Although the updated reports on the nationwide occurrence of the broad mite damage on pepper showed that most damages were occurring in greenhouses between October and March, damages were observed in late May in certain locality.
This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of meteorological elements and yearly variations of productivity in hot pepper. In addition, correlation coefficients among the yields and yield components were used to find out the relationships between meteorological elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the mean air temperature in May and July showed large with coefficients of variation(C.V.) of 25.0,8.9%, respectively, but the variation of the duration of sunshine in May were relative small. Yield and plant height was greatly with C.V. of 7.14,11.6%, respectively, diameter of fruit showed more or less C.V. of 2.28% and length of fruit showed less variation. Correlation coefficients between maximum temperature in period of cultivation from May and yield are positively significant at the level of 1 %. Correlation Coefficients between precipitation in period of cultivation from May to August and yield are negative significant at the level of 5 and 1 %, respectively. Correlation coefficients amount the plant height, length of fruit, diameter of fruit per plant, and seed yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of seeding of Vicia tetrasperma and V. hirsuta on the rate of ground cover as well as growth and yield of organic pepper plants in 2008 and 2009. All seeds of both species were gathered from Dangjin, Chungnam in late June of 2006 and stored for two year at room temperature. Capsella bursapastoris, Echinoloa crus-galli, Digitaria ciliaris, and Commelina communiswas were observed as main weeds during the winter and summer, respectively, at the field of V. tetrasperma and V. hirsuta. C. bursapastoris did not affect growth and yield of pepper plants. Seeding of V. tetrasperma and V. hirsuta maintained high percentage of ground cover later in the growing season of pepper plants and reduced significant amounts of weed in 2009. V. tetrasperma and V. hirsuta, therefore, produced more pepper yield compared to that of control but similar yield to the conventional system (polyethylene film).
Plant growth-promoting effects of rhizobacterial inoculation obtained in pot experiments cannot always be dependably reproduced in fields. In this study, we investigated the effect of inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense and Methylobacterium oryzae, which have displayed growth promoting effects in several pot experiments, on growth and fruit yield of red pepper under field condition in a plastic-film house. Four rows spaced 90 cm apart were prepared after application of compost ($10Mg\;ha^{-1}$), and red pepper seedlings (Capsicum annum L., Nocgwang) were transplanted in each row with 40-cm space. Experimental treatments were consisted of A. brasilense CW903 inoculation, M. oryzae CBMB20 inoculation, and uninoculated control. Twelve plots, 10 plants per plot, were allotted to the three treatments with four replicates in a completely randomized design. At the time of transplanting, 50 mL of each inoculum ($1{\times}10^8cells\;mL^{-1}$) was introduced into root zone soil of each plant, and re-inoculated at 7 and 14 days after transplant. Plant growth and fruit yield were measured during the experiment. Both A. brasilense CW903 and M. oryzae CBMB20 could not promote growth of red pepper plants. All growth parameters measured were not significantly different among treatments. There were large variations in fruit yield recorded on plot basis, and no statistically significant differences were found among treatments. The failure to demonstrate the expected plant growth promoting effect of the inoculants is possibly due to various environmental factors, including weather and soil characteristics, reducing the possibility to express the potential of the inoculated bacterial strains.
This research was performed to test the hypothesis that the optimal fertilization rate for red pepper is changed by soil moisture condition. The experiment was conducted in rainfall-intercepted fields in Suwon, South Korea from 2002 to 2003. Soil was irrigated at 30, 50, or 80 kPa of soil moisture tension at 20 cm soil depth in 2002 and 30, 50, 100, or 150 kPa in 2003. For both years, fertilization was performed with four levels: none, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 times of the recommended N, P, and K fertilization rate. The irrigation amount was the greatest at 30 kPa irrigation while the water use efficiency increased with decrease of irrigation amount. The Irrigation amount was 508 mm at 30 kPa irrigation and ranged from 355 mm to 435 mm at 50 kPa irrigation. The maximum yield was found at 30 kPa irrigation and 1.5 times of the recommend fertilization rate in 2002 and 2003. The yield index of red pepper increased linearly with the fertilization rate at 30 kPa which implied that excess irrigation induced nutrient leaching and reduced nutrient availability. The maximum yield in 50 kPa and 80 kPa was found at the recommend fertilization rate while the yield decreased by fertilization at 100 kPa and 150 kPa irrigation. It implies that reduction of fertilization is the feasible practice to mitigate drought stress in fields without stable irrigation resources.
