  • The evaluation of characteristics of concrete coated by high performance surface penetration agency was examined through various tests, i.e., compressive strength, penetration depth, water and air permeability, absorption according to various high performance surface penetration agencies and various compressive strengths of base concrete. The 4 types of high performance surface penetration agencies were used i.e., organic, inorganic, water soluble, and alcohol soluble. And 3 types of compressive strength of base concrete were used such as 21, 24 and 30 MPa. The characteristics of concrete coated high performance surface penetration agency was more improved than that of non-coated concrete, and especially, water soluble inorganic agency was most effective. And if compressive strength of base concrete was low, the improved effects would be larger.

  • In order to destroy the hard target, it is essential to develop a penetration warhead with high penetration performance. To design a penetration warhead, this paper discusses the effect of nose shape factors such that nose shape, nose length, nose tip diameter, on the penetration performance of the penetrator. AUTODYN-2D has been used to conduct the computational analysis. The experimental result of Forrestal, and a simulation result have been compared to verify the reliability of computational analysis. Computational results show that the nose length have more influence on the penetration performance than the nose shape. Furthermore, simulation results show that the penetration performance can be improved by increasing the nose tip diameter to a specific value, when the nose length of the penetrator is uniform.

  • Generally, an Linear Shaped Charge(LSC) is used for cutting a mechanical structure of various weapon systems. The penetration performance of an LSC is subjected to the type of explosive, the amount of explosive charge per unit length, the type of sheath material, stand-off distance from the target etc. In addition, the non-uniform cross-sectional shape originated from the manufacturing process may affect penetration performance. In this study, in order to analyze the penetration performance of an LSC, Computed Tomography(CT) images of its internal shape were taken and penetration experiments of the LSC were performed on a square metal bar. The experimental results showed that the penetration depths varied depending on the longitudinal position of the LSC, and at some locations, did not meet the required cutting performance. The LSC used in the experiment was manufactured to be able to cut a 4 mm plate, but in the results of the penetration performance experiment, there were many locations where the penetration depth was less than 4 mm. To find this reason, the penetration performance that did not meet the required cutting performance was simulated through AUTODYN based numerical analysis to confirm whether the LSC is cut in the plate. Through numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the penetration performance of an LSC varies depending on the thickness of the incision target due to the distribution of stress.

  • Based on the results of prototype air-shaft construction, penetration capacity of RBM(Raise Boring Machine) was analyzed and compared with TBM(Tunnel Boring Machine) performance in this study. Utilization, down time, net penetration rate and advance rate were evaluated and compared. By conducting the laboratory tests for rock properties with the analysis of penetration capacity, relation of penetration capacity and geotechnical parameters was studied. The results showed that much more higher value of utilization, however lower value of net penetration rate for RBM was obtained compared to those of TBM. In addition, as the strength of rock penetrated increased, higher value of net penetration rate was obtained contrarily to the results of TBM performance. Finally, new relationship between total hardness and net penetration rate for weak and weathered rock was derived from these results.

  • There were many flaw issues of reactor vessel head penetration in USA fleets. USNRC issued 10CFR50.55a to implement reactor vessel head penetration ultrasonic examination performance demonstration(PD) in US for enhancement of inspection reliability. After September 2009, all US utilities inspected their RVHP with PD qualified system. Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company(KHNP) have developed reactor vessel head penetration performance demonstration system for ultrasonic test to apply for pressurized light-water reactor power plants in accordance with 10CFR50.55a since September 2011. RVHP configuration surveying and analysis, code requirement analysis, and performance demonstration specimen design were performed up to this day. Fingerprinting of manufactured specimen, development of test data management program, development of operation procedure, input of flawed data, and development of final report will be performed for the next step. This paper describes the development status of the performance demonstration system for reactor vessel head penetration ultrasonic examination in Korea.

  • It is difficult to control differential settlement and long-term settlement on soft ground with the template used in the pre-filing method of offshore wind power. In this study, the template adopted a suction foundation with high utility on soft ground. To analyze the penetration performance of the doughnut-type suction foundation, step-by-step numerical analysis was applied by calculating the minimum suction pressure needed for ground penetration at that depth. Scale model tests were performed and compared with the numerical analysis results. The ratio of the inside diameter compared to the outside diameter is higher, and penetration by suction was more advantageous than push-in load penetration. The step-by-step numerical analysis method showed an error within 2 % compared to the model tests, so the numerical analysis method confirmed results that the penetration performance of the doughnut-type suction foundation is valid.

  • This research attempts to examine the effects of import penetration in an industry on the firms' decision of business diversification and provide an integrative framework including the determinants and results of the business diversification. The research results are as follows. First, the import penetration doesn't affect the degree of business diversification. Second, the more profitable their core business industry, the lower the degree of business diversification against the import penetration. In addition, both technology-related assets and marketing-related assets are necessary for business diversification when faced with the import penetration. Finally, the inverted U-shaped relationship is supported between the degree of business diversification and firm performance.

  • The function of fire barrier penetration sealing is highly important to confine a fire propagation a fire severity within a fire area where the fire started. Especially for the penetration seals at the nuclear power plants with the long-term operated history, it is needed to make it clear that the conformance to the sealing requirements has been proven to guarantee the fire-resistive performance of fire barrier penetration parts. If there are any parts of fire barrier penetration sealing which can not meet the required rating for the fire endurance performance, the relevant parts must be modified to meet regulatory requirements. At this paper, the engineering analysis methodology was established to approximate the fire endurance rating for the fire barrier penetration seals. With this study, the method of engineering analysis to decide fire endurance rating for the fire barrier penetration seals was established and this way can be utilized to check the performance of the fire rating for the penetration seal at the domestic nuclear power plants.
