  • The evaluation of various color coating methods for color maintenance of color asphalt pavement is conducted using the laboratory and field tests on the bus lane. The surface of color asphalt constructed on the bus lane is deteriorated such as changing color and decoloration and abrasion due to the passing of the traffic and time. The total of 9 coating methods were evaluated in this study. The laboratory tests included Ultra violet test, adhesion test and Taber abrasion test and the field tests were british pendulum test and visual survey. The results of tests showed that the different methods showed the their own engineering characteristics and it is dependant upon the main material used. The rubber epoxy material for the main material showed the satisfactory result among the methods tested. However, the performance of the coating methods after 100days are not satisfactory, decoloration, abrasion and peeling up are investigated and need to be studied for the further application in the field.

  • Metals exposed to high temperature/high pressure/oxidant excess environment of an oxygen excess pre-combustor may undergo rapid oxidation. In this study, the test facility to simulate the high temperature/high pressure/oxidant excess environment was constructed and the oxidation resistance evaluation was carried out for various metal materials. As a result, the discoloration of the metallic materials, the change in the surface roughness and the peeling of the metal surface were observed, and the weight change was also observed. The resulst showed that oxidation-resistant coating of a metal material of the combustor is indispensably required, and the use of XM-19, which has the highest content of Cr and Ni, is expected to provide more structural stability.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flexural strengthening effects of RC beams reinforced with carbon fiber sheets (CFS) in variable of strengthening amount and anchorage length of CFS. This study can be summarized as follows. The CFS shares the tensile stress such as rebar during loading test. Also, as the strengthening amount of CFS is increased, the maximum flexural strength of RC beams reinforced with CFS is increased. Therefore, it is confirmed that the CFS's strengthening method is very effective to improve the flexural strength of RC beams. The maximum flexural strength of RC beams with CFS is determined by bond failure between CFS and concrete surface. So, the evaluation of CFS's strengthening effect can be calculated using the tensile stress of CFS which is peeling. When the anchorage length of CFS. But, in case of same anchorage length of CFS, when the strengthening amount of CFA is increased, the ductility is decreased. Therefore, it is considered that the anchorage of CFS in the end zone is necessary.

  • To upgrade shear performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, and particularly of the segments under negative moment within continuous T-section beams, a series of original schemes has been proposed using carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) U-shaped strips for shear-strengthening. The current work focuses on one of them, in which CFRP U-strips are wound around steel bars against the top of the flange of a T-beam and then spliced on its bottom face in addition to being bonded onto its sides. The test results showed that the proposed scheme successfully provided reliable anchorage for U-strips and prevented premature onset of shear failure due to FRP debonding. The governing shear mode of failure changed from peeling of CFRP to its fracture or crushing of concrete. The strengthened specimens displayed an average increase of about 60% in shear capacity over the unstrengthened control one. The specimen with a relatively high ratio and uniform distribution of CFRP reinforcement had a maximum increase of nearly 75% in strength as well as significantly improved ductility. The formulas by various codes or guidelines exhibited different accuracy in estimating FRP contribution to shear resistance of the segments that are subjected to negative moment and strengthened with well-anchored FRP U-strips within continuous T-beams. Further investigation is necessary to find a suitable approach to predicting load-carrying capacity of continuous beams shear strengthened in this way.

  • For integrated passive device (IPD) applications, we have successfully developed and characterized metalinsulator-metal (MIM) capacitors with 2000 $\AA$ plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) silicon nitride which are deposited with the $SiH_4/NH_3$ gas mixing rate, working pressure, and RF power of PECVD at $250^{\circ}C$. Five PECVD process parameters are designed to lower the refractive index and lower the deposition rate of $Si_3N_4$ films for the high breakdown electric field. For the PECVD process condition of gas mixing rate (0.957), working pressure (0.9 Torr), and RF power (60 W), the atomic force microscopy (AFM) root mean square (RMS) value of about 2000 $\AA$ $Si_3N_4$ on the bottom metal is lowest at 0.862 nm and the breakdown electric field is highest at about 8.0 MV/cm with a capacitance density of 326.5 pF/$mm^2$. A pretreatment of metal electrodes is proposed, which can reduce the peeling of nitride in the harsh test environment of heat, pressure, and humidity.

  • The first issue that should be overcome in copper process is its poor adhesive strength between pure copper film and glass substrate. In this study, defining the adhesive strength of pure copper film on various substrates and clarifying the key deposition parameters are presented for the investigation of copper process. First, using different kinds of surface plasma treatments were studied and the results showed that the adhesive strength was not improved even though the roughness of glass substrate surface was increased. Second, adding an adhesive layer between glass substrate and pure copper film was used to enhance the adhesion. Based on the data in the present paper, adopting copper alloy film as an adhesive layer can have capability preventing peeling problem in copper process. Besides, Cu/Cu alloy structure could be etched with the same etchant with better taper angle than the one with single layer of Cu. Unlike Cu/Mo structure, there is no residual problem for Cu/Cu alloy structure during etching process. Finally, this structure was examined in electrical test without significant difference in comparison with the conventional metal process.

  • In this paper, core-shell structure of nickel/gold (Ni/Au) conductive layer on poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA) micro-ball was fabricated and its conduction property was investigated. Firstly, PMMA micro-ball was synthesized by using dispersion polymerization method. Size of the ball was $2.8{\mu}m$ within ${\pm}7%$ deviation, and appropriate elastic deformation of the PMMA micro-ball ranging from 31 to 39% was achieved under 3 kg pressure. Also, 200 nm thick Ni/Au conductive layer was fabricated on the PMMA micro-ball by uniformly depositing with electroless-plating. Adhesion of the conductive layer was optimized with help of surface pre-treatment, and the layer adhered without peeling-off despite of thermal expansion by collision with accelerated electrons. Composite paste containing core-shell structured particles well cured at low temperature of $130^{\circ}C$ while pressing the test chip onto the substrate to make electrical contact, and electrical resistance of the conductive layer showed stable behavior of about $6.0{\Omega}$. Thus, it was known that core-shell structured particle of the Ni/Au conductive layer on PMMA micro-ball was feasible to flexible electronics.

  • To investigae the effect of anchorage type of carbon fiber sheet (CFS) on flexural behavior of RC beams, the loading test of RC beams reinforced with CFS was conducted in variable of anchorage Type such as bolting anchorage and U type anchorage using CFS. This study can be summarized as follows ; It is confirmed experimentally that the bolting anchorage and U type anchorage with CFS is very effective to delay the bond failure and prevent the peeling of CFS. Also, the anchorage type applied with this study is very effective to improve the ductility compared with the improving of maximum flexural strength of RC beams. It is believed that the anchorage type used this study must secure the ductile capacity of above 3 for the flexural strengthening of RC beams. In the future, it is required to obtain the data about anchorage type of CFS for utilization of field work as well as investigate the ductile capacity of conventional study of anchorage type

  • The mechanical properties of the hydrogen valve responsible for supplying and blocking hydrogen gas in a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) were researched. Mechanical properties by hydrogen embrittlement were investigated by coating chromium nitride (CrN) and titanium nitride (TiN) on aluminum alloy by arc ion plating method. The coating layer was deposited to a thickness of about 2 ㎛, and a slow strain rate test (SSRT) was conducted after hydrogen embrittlement to determine the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of the CrN and TiN coating layers. The CrN-coated specimen presented little decrease in mechanical properties until 12 hours of hydrogen charging due to its excellent resistance to hydrogen permeation. However, both the CrN and TiN-coated specimens exhibited deterioration in mechanical properties due to the peeling of the coating layer after 24 hours of hydrogen charging. The specimens coated at 350 ℃ presented a significant decrease in ultimate tensile strength due to abnormal grain growth.
