  • We examined the anti-inflammatory effect of the peel extract of the newly bred Korean apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) cultivar Green ball. To test its possible use as anti-inflammatory functional material, Raw 264.7 macrophages were treated with pro-inflammatory lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the presence or absence of Green ball apple peel ethanol extract (GBE). Notably, up to 500 ㎍/mL of GBE did not result in any signs of inhibition on cellular metabolic activity or cytotoxicity in Raw 264.7 macrophages. Supplementation with GBE to LPS-treated Raw 264.7 macrophage significantly suppressed various pro-inflammatory responses in a dose-dependent manner, including i) nitric oxide (NO) production, ii) accumulation of inducible NO synthase and cyclooxygenase-2, iii) phosphorylation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) subunit p65, and iv) expression of pro-inflammatory biomarker genes, including tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 1 beta, interleukin 6, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and prostaglandin E synthase 2.

  • The effect of COG bonding parameters, especially the bonding temperature, on the bonding quality and reliability was investigated in this paper. We measured the bubble area formed in the ACF resin during the bonding process and tried to investigate the relationship between bubble area and bonding peel strength. 85/85 test which exposes a sample to a 85% humidity and $85^{\circ}C$ temperature condition was also carried out. The bubble area was dramatically increased under ~$10^{\circ}C$ lower than recommended bonding temperature. The bubble area formed at the edge of IC chip was larger than the other parts of IC chip. But the peel strength was not associated with the bubble area. High temperature and humid condition made the bubble area larger, but we could not find clear trend of change in the peel strength.

  • The study of compatible liner with ADP-505 propellant based PCP was performed. HTPB/DDl was chosen as a binder of liner in order to prohibit migration of nitroester plasticizer from propellant. The possible formulations for liner were screened by peel test of EPDM insulation/liner, propellant/liner and insulation/liner/propellant. Also, the adhesion tests including tension and shear were conducted. The adhesion of liner and propellant fumed out to be very good. The peel value was shown 1.5∼1.8 daN/cm, tensile force was 5.5∼6.0bar and shear force was 4.2∼5.0bar. In the samples of insulation/liner/propellant, they also have shown good adhesion properties. The peel, tensile and shear strength were 1.8 daN/cm, 5.0∼6.0bar and 4.5∼5.0bar, respectively.

  • In this paper, we focused on the optimization of bonding conditions for the successful thermo-compression bonding of electrodes between the RPCB and FPCB with Sn-Pb solder. The peel strength was proportionally affected by the bonding conditions, such as pressure, temperature, and time. In order to figure out an optimized bonding condition, fracture energies were calculated through F-x (force-displacement) curves in the peel test. The optimum condition for the thermo-compression bonding of electrodes between the RPCB and FPCB was found to be temperature of $225^{\circ}C$ and time of 7 s, and its peel strength was 22 N/cm.

  • PURPOSE. This study investigated the effect of laser parameters and air-abrasion on the peel strength of silicon-based soft denture liner to different denture resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Specimens (N=180) were prepared out of three different denture base resins (Rodex, cross-linked denture base acrylic resin; Paladent, heat-cured acrylic resin; Deflex, Polyamide resin) ($75mm{\times}25mm{\times}3mm$). A silicon-based soft denture liner (Molloplast B) was applied to the denture resins after the following conditioning methods: a) Air-abrasion ($50{\mu}m$), b) Er,Cr:YSGG laser (Waterlase MD Turbo, Biolase Technology) at 2 W-20 Hz, c) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 2 W-30 Hz, d) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-20 Hz, e) Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-30 Hz. Non-conditioned group acted as the control group. Peel test was performed in a universal testing machine. Failure modes were evaluated visually. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Denture liner tested showed increased peel strength after laser treatment with different parameters ($3.9{\pm}0.4-5.58{\pm}0.6$ MPa) compared to the control ($3.64{\pm}0.5-4.58{\pm}0.5$ MPa) and air-abraded groups ($3.1{\pm}0.6-4.46{\pm}0.3$ MPa), but the results were not statistically significant except for Paladent, with the pretreatment of Er,Cr:YSGG laser at 3 W-20 Hz. Polyamide resin after air-abrasion showed significantly lower peel strength than those of other groups ($3.1{\pm}0.6$ MPa). CONCLUSION. Heat-cured acrylic resin, PMMA, may benefit from Er,Cr:YSGG laser treatment at 3 W-20 Hz irradiation. Air-abrasion of polyamide resins should be avoided not to impair their peel bond strengths to silicon-based soft denture liners.

  • Multi-functional urethane acrylate monomers as the curing agent of poly(phenylene ether) (PPE) were synthesized and then the urethane bond formation was checked by FTIR spectrometry and NMR analysis. The synthesized monomers were mixed with PPE and fabricated to dielectric substrates. After forming PPE/monomer composite sheets by a film coater, several sheets were laminated to a test substrate in a vacuum laminator and then its properties depending on the type and the amount of monomers, such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and peel strength, were measured. Between the two different hydroxyl acrylates, when the monomer synthesized with 2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl acrylate containing a phenyl group was used as a curing agent, a smaller dielectric loss was obtained and the dielectric constant and loss decreased with a decrease in the amount of the monomer. The peel strength values of the test substrates, however, did not show any specific difference between the cases of two synthesized monomers. As a result, it was obtained the polymer substrate for high frequency application having peel strength of about 10 N, low dielectric constant of 2.54, and low dielectric loss of 0.0027 at 1 GHz.

  • We investigated effects of bonding conditions on the peel strength of rigid printed circuit board (RPCB)/ flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) joints bonded using a thermo-compression bond method, The electrodes on the FPCB were coated with Sn by a dipping process. We confirmed that the bonding temperature and bonding time strongly affected the bonding configuration and strength of the joints. Also, the peel strength is affected by dipping conditions; the optimum dipping condition was found to be temperature of $270^{\circ}C$ and time of 1s. The bonding strength linearly increased with increasing bonding temperature and time until $280^{\circ}C$ and 10s. The fracture energy calculated from the F-x (Forcedisplacement) curve during a peel test was the highest at bonding temperature of $280^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was conducted to examine the characteristics of bread quality as per addition rate of citrus mandarin peel powder since interests and concerns about healthy functional food have been increased in contemporary society. The result of mixogram from Mixograph showed that dough added with 3% citrus mandarin peel powder was suitable for baking quality. Stickiness of dough was decreased with addition of citrus mandarin peel powder. Compared with the controlled group, fermentation rate was decreased as the level of citrus mandarin peel powder increased while pH levels of dough and bread were significantly decreased. The TPA analysis showed that the hardness and adhesiveness levels increased as the level of citrus mandarin peel powder increased whereas springiness, cohesiveness and chewiness became decreased. Crumb fineness and elongation became higher as seen from the result of crumbScan. Volume and specific volume was decreased. The result of preference test presented that crumb color, texture, flavor and taste were the highest in the M3, which showed highest point in overall preference. In conclusion, M3 was the best in preference, taste and texture, thus determined as the optimal rate in association with the addition of citrus mandarin peel powder.

  • We prepared a novel dosage form, peel-off type soft hydrogel using poly(vinyl alcohol), and evaluated the effect of skin penetration enhancer on the indomethacin release from soft hydrogel by in vitro permeation and in vivo absorption test. In this study, we used four enhancers-urea, dimethyl urea, 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl urea, and pirotiodecane (1-[2(decylthio)ethyl]azacyclopentane-2-one, $HPE-101^{circledR}$). In addition, we evaluated the primary skin irritation test of soft hydrogel using rabbit. From these results, we could find the pirotiodecane was a prominent enhancer, and soft hydrogel seemed to be safe and have no irritancy.
