Method of Measuring the Occupied Bandwidth of IS-95 Base Station at Remote Site

  • CDMA(code division multiple access) has very large peak to average power ratio(PAR) and behave as noise-like wide band digital signals with 1.2288 Mbps transmission rate. For signals with high PAR like CDMA, it is reasonable to prescribe occupied bandwidth(OBW) as average occupied bandwidth. Bandwidth measurements of CDMA signals at remote site are affected by co-channel and adjacent channel interference from adjacent CDMA base station, distortion of signal by fading effect, spurious emission and environment noises. In this study, we have compared OBW measurements in an on-air environment with those measured in a base station using adjacent channel leakage ratio(ACLR) as a reference measurement factor. As results of analysis, the OBW at ACLR$\geq$35 ㏈ shows nearly same statistical characteristics regardless of the measurement locations and environments.

  • Binary CDMA(B-CDMA) is a new modulation scheme that employs a constant envelope modulation scheme By quantizing the envelope of multi-codes CDMA signal into a small number of levels, the B-CDMA can reduce the peak-to-average power ratio, while preserving the advantages of CDMA signaling such as the soft capacity and robustness to interference. In this paper, we analyze the performance of B-CDMA systems in multi-path channel assuming that the spreading factor is not too small. Finally, the analytic results are verified by computer simulation.

  • This paper describes the theory and verification of a method which utilizes the free decay response of a structure to determine its vibration parameters. The theory of the method is base on the formulation of a system matrix, contains information characterizing the complete set of modal parameters of the system, and its eigen-solution problem. The applicability of the method is verified by simulated free decay response data of a cantilever bean The method described was used to determined the parameters related to the first five generated modes of vibration of a cantilever beam. It involves two very close natural frequencies which could not be identified using a frequency sweep test(peak amplitude) because of interference between modes.

A Spectral Correlation Based Detection Method for Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio

  • Cognitive radio, which is designed to dynamically adapt its transmission to the environments, is believed to be one of the fundamental techniques for future spectrum utilization. As the first step of cognitive radio, spectrum sensing is treated as the most important technique, through which cognition is well explained. In this paper, we propose a spectral correlation based detection method for spectrum sensing. An unlicensed secondary user system operating in TV broadcast bands is taken as an example. Based on the cyclostationarity of communication signals, spectral correlation function is used to minimize the effect of random noise and interference. Energy measurement and peak detection based criteria are proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed detection method outperforms the energy detection and is more suitable for spectrum sensing in cognitive radios.

  • In this paper, we propose the efficient digital watermarking scheme to transmit effectively the compressed medical image that embedded with watermarking data in mobile Internet access channel. The wireless channel error based on multiple access interference (MAI) is closely related to the length of spreading sequence in CDMA system. Also, the fixed length coded medical image with watermark bit stream can be classified by significance of source image. In the simulation, we compare the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) performance when the watermarked image with a simple symbol and when the watermarked image with a text file is transmitted using variable length of spreading sequences in case of limited length of spread sequence.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a form of multi-carrier modulation technique. High spectral efficiency, robustness to channel fading, immunity to impulse interference, uniform average spectral density, capability of handling very strong echoes and less on linear distortion are among the favorite properties of OFDM. Even though there are many advantages of OFDM, t has two main drawbacks: high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and frequency of offset. In this paper, the issue of PAPR in OFDM is discussed. A new algorithm is proposed to reduce PAPR by selecting the input sequences property using a lookup table.

Mixing matrix estimation method for dual-channel time-frequency overlapped signals based on interval probability

  • For dual-channel time-frequency (TF) overlapped signals with low sparsity in underdetermined blind source separation (UBSS), this paper proposes an effective method based on interval probability to estimate and expand the types of mixing matrices. First, the detection of TF single-source points (TF-SSP) is used to improve the TF sparsity of each source. For more distinguishability, as the ratios of the coefficients from different columns of the mixing matrix are close, a local peak-detection mechanism based on interval probability (LPIP) is proposed. LPIP utilizes uniform subintervals to optimize and classify the TF coefficient ratios of the detected TF-SSP effectively in the case of a high level of TF overlap among sources and reduces the TF interference points and redundant signal features greatly to enhance the estimation accuracy. The simulation results show that under both noiseless and noisy cases, the proposed method performs better than the selected mainstream traditional methods, has good robustness, and has low algorithm complexity.

Determination of Derivatives of Phenol with a Modified Electrode Containing β-Cyclodextrin

  • Voltammetric determination of phenol derivatives, such as phenol, o-, m-, and p-cresols was studied with a β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) modified-carbon paste electrode composing of the graphite powder and Nujol oil. Phenol derivatives were chemically deposited via the complex formation with β-CD by immersing the CME into a sample solution. The resulting surfaces were characterized with cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry. Treating the CME with 1 M nitric acid for five sec after a measurement could regenerate the electrode surface. Linear sweep and differential pulse voltammograms were recorded for the above system to optimize the experimental parameters for analysing the phenol derivatives. In this case, the detection limit for phenols was 5.0×10-7M for 25 min of the deposition time with differential pulse voltammetry. The relative standard deviation was ±5.2% of 3.0×10-6M (four repetitions). The interference effect of the following organic compounds was also investigated; Bezoic acid, hippuric acid, o-, m-, and p-methylhippuric acid. Adding the organic compounds into the sample solution reduces the peak current of the phenols to about 25%.

  • We have analyzed optical matched filters considering the third order signals in the optical code division multiple access (CDMA) system based on optical series coupler access encoder (SCAE) and series coupler access decoder (SCAD). In previous studies, the performance evaluation of the optical CDMA system using SCAE and SCAD was not sufficiently accurate because they analyzed system performance only considering the first order signals. Since optical SCAE and SCAD intrinsically have high order signals of various patterns as the number of coupler increases, they change auto- and cross-correlation intensities. Thus, it is necessary to investigate properties of the third order signals so that we may analyze the exact performance of system. In this paper, we mathematically interpret the optical signals up to the third order, and analyzed the effects of th third order signals on auto- and cross-correlation intensities. In result, as ${\alpha}$(coupling coefficient) value increases, the intensity of the third order signals increases. It is found that the peak to side-lobe ratio considering the third order signals is degraded by 3.75 dB at N(coupler number)=5 and ${\alpha}$=0.5. Also if threshold value in receiver is set by main-lobe peak of the first order signals, it is found that the number of users in an optical CDMA system is limited because the intensity peak of side-lobes is raised by the third order signals.

Populations of Rod and Cone Photoreceptors in the Hamster Retina (햄스터 망막에서의 광수용체 분포)

  • We report on a quantitative analysis of cone and rod photoreceptors in hamster retina. Cone and rod photoreceptors were counted in retinal whole mounts using differential interference contrast (DIC) optics microscopy after staining of cone photoreceptors were stained with peroxidase-labeled peanut lectin. Middle-to-long-wave-sensitive-(M/L-), and shortwave-sensitive-(S-) cone opsins were visualized by observed using confocal microscope after immunocytochemical procedure. The average cone density was 9,307 $cells/mm^2$, giving a total of cones of 293,060 cone cells per retina. The peak density of cone cells (12,857 $cells/mm^2$) was found 0.3 mm from the optic disk (OD) of the nasal retina. The average rod density was 300,082 $cells/mm^2$, giving a total number of rods of 9,448,150 cells. The peak density of rod cells was found 0.3 mm from the OD of the dorsal retina. Of all photoreceptors studied, the total percentage of rods and cones were 96.99% and cones 3.01%, respectively. The mean ratio of rod and cone was 32.24 : 1. The cone photoreceptors of hamster contained both M/L- and S-cone opsins. The present results suggest that the hamster retina is strongly rod-dominated with some photopic property of vision.
