Crack behaviour of top layer in layered rocks

  • Open-mode cracks could be commonly observed in layered rocks. A concept model is firstly used to explore the mechanism of the vertical cracks (VCs) in the top layer. Then the crack behaviour of the two-layer model is simulated based on a cohesive zone model (CZM) for layer interfaces and a plastic-damage model for rocks. The model indicates that the tensile stress normal to the VCs changes to compression if the crack spacing to layer thickness ratio is lower than a threshold. The results indicate that there is a threshold for interfacial shear strength that controls the crack patterns of the layered system. If the shear strength is lower than the threshold, the top layer is meshed by the VCs and interfacial cracks (ICs). When the shear strength is higher than the threshold, the top layer is meshed by the VCs and parallel cracks (PCs). If the shear strength is comparative to the threshold, a combining pattern of VCs, PCs and ICs for the top layer can be formed. The evolutions of stress distribution in the crack-bound block indicate that the ICs and PCs can reduce the load transferred for the substrate layer, and thus leads to a crack saturation state.

  • Earlier program plagiarism check systems are performed by using simple text, attribute or token string base on match techniques. They have difficulties in checking program styles which have nothing to do with program syntax such as indentation, spacing and comments. This paper introduces a plagiarism check model which compares syntax-trees for the given programs. By using syntax-trees, this system can overcome the weekness of filtering program styles and have advantage of comparing the structure of programs by syntax and semantic analysis. Our study introduces syntactic tree creation, unparsing and similarity check algorithms about C/C++ program plagiarism checking for internet cyber education and estimate plagiarism pattern.

Defect Inspection of Extreme Ultra-Violet Lithography Mask (극자외선 리소그래피용 마스크의 결함 검출)

  • At-wavelength inspection system of extreme Ultra-violet lithography was developed and the inspection results were compared with the optical mask inspection system by cross correlation experiments. In at-wavelength EUV mask inspection system, a raster scan of focused euv light is used to illuminate euv light to mask blank and specularly and non-specularly reflected euv light are detected by photo diode and microchannel plate. The cross correlation results between at-wavelength inspection tool and optical inspection tool shows strong correlation. Far-field scattering fringe pattern from programmed phase and opqque defect, which were detected by phosphor plate and CCD camera shows that distinct diffraction fringes were observed with fringe spacing dependent on the defect size.

Crystal Structure of Ferrihydrite Nanoparticles Synthesized in Ferritin

  • In this study, horse spleen apoferritins were induced to form biominerals using up to 3000 Fe atoms per protein molecule. The morphology and crystallinity of the nanometer-sized biominerals formed in the ferritins were then analyzed using field emission-energy filtering-transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM). The ferritins were found to have reconstitution yields of 60-70% in the experiments. The mean core size of the ferritins varied somewhat with protein concentrations, indicating that crystal growth in ferritins could be controlled via protein concentrations. The core mineral size increased with the amount of Fe used. Lattice fringes of the core, associated with good crystallinity, were found in all samples. The lattice fringe images of a single domain ferrihydrite mineral appeared frequently in the (011) planes (d-spacing of 0.246 nm) under [100] zone axis in all samples of this study. In addition, the lattice image occasionally revealed fringes corresponding to the (100) planes (d = 0.254 nm) from the [001] zone axis, indicating the characteristic pattern of hexagonal crystal lattice. Diffraction patterns in the minerals identified as ferrihydrite were fitted well into the space group of $P3_{1c}$.

A Thermostable Xylose Isomerase from Thermus thermophilus: Biochemical Characterization, Crystallization, and Preliminary X-ray Analyses

  • A highly thermostable xylose isomerase from Thermus thermophilus has been expressed in Escherichia coli and crystallized. The purified enzyme shows its optimum temperature at $90^{\circ}C$. It has been crystallized at room temperature using polyethylene glycol 4000 as the precipitant. The crystal belongs to the orthorhombic space group $P2_12_12_1$, with unit cell parameters of a = 73.34 ${\AA}$, b = 144.05 ${\AA}$, c = 155.07 ${\AA}$. The presence of one molecule of tetrameric xylose isomerase in the asymmetric unit gives a crystal volume per protein mass ($V_m$) of 2.32 ${\AA}^3/Da$ and the solvent content of 47.0% by volume. The diffraction pattern extends to 1.9 ${\AA}$ Bragg spacing with synchrotron radiation and a set of native data has been collected to 2.3 ${\AA}$.

Effect of Mainstream Turbulence Intensitv on Dimensionless Temperature Downstream of Staggered Rows of Recangular Hole (주유동의 난류강도가 엇갈린 배열의 사각홀 하류에서의 온도장 분포에 미치는 영향)

  • An experimental study has been conducted to measure the temperature fields for two and three staggered rows of the rectangular shaped-holes with high turbulence intensity. 10 % turbulence intensity is obtained by installation of two kinds of grids which have different shapes. One grid which is installed at 30d upstream from center of 1st row of holes is composed of vertical cylinders of which diameter is 10 mm and center to center distance is 18 mm. The other installed 15d apart to upstream from center of 1st row of holes which has square pattern is constructed of 3 rum square bars and bar spacing is 25 mm. Temperature fields are measured by using a thermocouple rake which is attached on three-axis traversing system. The results show that the overall values are decreased and the thicker film of coolant is fanned downstream of rows of holes for high mainstream turbulence intensity.

  • The construction of container terminal at Brani, Singapore required the improvement of soft clay layer having the thickness of about 6.5m, average moisture content of 79.4%, liquid limit of 90.4%, plastic limit of 21.8%, field vane strength of 10 to 25 KPa, pre-consolidation pressure of 225 to 60 KPa and compression index of 0.4 to 1.0. For the improvement of this layer, Colbon drains of 1.3m spacing in triangular pattern were installed to the bottom of the layer and surcharge of more than 11.25m high sand fill was later applied to the treated area. The settlement and lateral displacement of the ground were measured and the speed of surcharge filling was controlled, based on these readings. The removal of surcharge was determinied using the estimated time for the 90% degree of consolidation under the design pressure of 180KPa. The field and laboratory test results show that the soft clay layer has been improved substantially in its strength and consolidation characteristics: increase in strength of about 50KPa and pre-consolidation pressure and decrease in void ratio and compression index.

Out-line Space-shape Variation of Clothing Fitness with Somatotype (체형유형에 따른 의복의 착의 공간 형상 변화)

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type.   • The cement injection technology on the purpose of ground reinforcement and cut-off has been used in construction sites until now. However, recently it is applied to prevent leakage of underground structure. In this study, applicability of the back side waterproof grouting method was verified through performing field model tests and reviewing case histories. From the results of this study, injection shape of the back side waterproof grouting method was appeared to be root type, and waterproof effect by injection of cement grout material was excellent because grout material infiltrated into boundary between wall of structure and back side ground to be waterproof layer. Components influencing infiltration of injection material are type of soil and degree of compaction. For effective injection, injection pressure has to vary gradually from high pressure to low pessure and small quantity of injection material has to be injected for long times. Also, spacing of injection hole must be designed considering condition of back side ground, injection area, W/C ratio, the number of injection and injection pattern properly.

Analysis of W-type Reflector Antennas Using the Method of Moments (모멘트법을 이용한 W형 리플렉터 안테나의 해석)

  • In this paper, W-type reflector antennas modified from corner reflector antenna structure were proposed and the radiation characteristics were analyzed using the method of moments. The analysis results such as gain, F/B, half power beamwidth, and radiation pattern are presented as functions of dipole height h and back edge spacing d. Also, the proposed antenna was compared with corner reflector antennas in the same size of side reflectors, W-type reflector antenna was found to exhibit somewhat higher gain and larger F/B than corner reflector antennas. To verify the analysis results, W-type reflector antenna was fabricated and the radiation characteristics were measured. The measured results show good agreement with the calculated results.
