  • Recently, online real-time web accessible mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs and application services have been developing rapidly. Hospitals also need to adopt an efficient information system that can provide decent medical services under mobile computing environments to complete future medical services. This study proposes a system in which a doctor can examine a patient and make out a prescription in a ward on a real-time based on the current Order Communication Systems (OCSs) through mobile interfaces. The proposed system implements mobile web pages using HTML5, instead of a mobile app. Web processing speed can be enhanced using the web socket and web storage functions of HTML5.

  • The elderly are more likely to have chronic medical conditions that require multiple drug therapies. Purposes of this study are to reveal necessity of elderly patient education by pharmacists, and to induce appropriate policy. We carried out literature research. Taking several drugs together increases risk of drug interactions and adverse reactions. We suggest that pharmacists have the legal authority to monitor prescription for efficient drug management, pharmacovigilance system be efficiently operated, and medication education fee be provided to allow pharmacists give more time to the elderly.

  • Dermatomyositis is an inflammatory cutaneo-muscular disease of unknown etiology, characterized by symmetrical proximal muscle weakness and typical dermatologic manifestation. Henoch-Schonlein purpura is most common in children. In Korea, dermatomyositis or Henoch-Schonlein purpura associated with herbal medicine has not been reported. The subject patient is a seven year-old girl diagnosed with dermatomyositis in August 1999 and Henoch-Schonlein purpura in January, July 2001. There were symptoms of dermatomyositis such as headache, arthralgia, eruption, itching and abdominal pain. I think the herb-prescription composed or Radix astragali (Huangqi), Herba agrimoniae (Xianhecao), Fructus jujubae (Dazao) had an ameliorating effect on Henoch-Schonlein purpura by decreasing these symptoms.

Results : After prescription of Pasaekhwalhyeol-Tang, VAS scores on headache and accompanying symptoms decreased. No significant changes were shown in laboratory findings. As for the laboratory findings, ALT showed an upward tendency within a week and increased over normal values in two cases(13%). But two weeks later, ALT decreased within normal values. And the mean serum level was within normal values and the other hepatic enzymes did not increase over normal values in either week nor week 2. Conclusions : Results suggest that Pasaekhwalhyeol-Tang is effective in reducing the severity of acute headache from acute cerebral infarct.

  • The researcher categorized the acupuncture methods mentioned in DongUiBoGam according to the form, and examined how to select and use the acupuncture points explained in the Acupuncture/Moxibustion prescription. By comparing the original text to the Acupuncture/Moxibustion prescriptions, it was established that the various acupuncture points in these Acupuncture/Moxibustion prescriptions all had individual meaning. Also, it showed that DongUiBoGam didn't indicate a particular acupuncture point but allowed a possibility for selection according to the patient's condition and the skill of the practitioner.

  • Diarrhea is defined as increased volume and frequency of stools, increased liquidity and decreased consistency of stools. Enteral nutrition is suited to the patient in a state of normal gastro-intestinal function but insufficient oral nutrition due to neurologic injury. Of many problems raised by enteral nutrition, diarrhea is the most common complication and raises severe clinical problems such as dehydration, disproportion of electrolytes, metabolic acidosis, bed sores, etc. We report two cases of diarrhea due to enteral nutrition treated with Dolichos lablab L. preparation added to herb-med prescription in stroke patients. • Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease receive a range of treatments including but not limited to inhaled bronchodilators, inhaled and systemic corticosteroids, supplemental oxygen, and pulmonary rehabilitation. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary intervention that seeks to combine patient education, exercise, and lifestyle changes into a comprehensive program. Programs 6 to 8 weeks in length have been shown to improve health, reduce dyspnea, increase exercise capacity, improve psychological well-being, and reduce healthcare utilization and hospitalization. Although the use of pulmonary rehabilitation is widely supported by the literature, controversy still exists regarding what should be included in the programs. The goal of this review was to summarize the evidence for pulmonary rehabilitation and identify the areas that hold promise in improving its utilization and effectiveness.
