  • Purpose: This study aimed to construct and test a predictive model that explains and predicts the quality of life in older men living alone. Methods: A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 334 older adult men living along aged 65 years or over living in Jeollanam-do provinces. The endogenous variables were depression, self-rated health, instrumental activity of daily life, health promotion behaviors, the number of social participation activities and quality of life. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs. Results: The final model with 14 of the 8 analysed paths showed a good fit to the empirical data: χ2 = 173.26(p < .001, df = 53), normed χ2 = 3.27, GFI = .92, NFI = .90, CFI = .93, TLI = .89, RMSEA = .08 and SRMR = .06. Activities had direct effect on quality of life of older men living alone and social support had both direct and indirect effects. Meanwhile, function and socioeconomic status showed only indirect effects. The variables included in the eight significant paths explained 83.7% of variance in the prediction model. Conclusion: Instrumental activities of daily living and social support effect directly on quality of life in the older men living alone. Findings suggest that health care providers including community nurses need to provide social support as well as empowerment programs of instrumental activities of daily living and health promotion for improving quality of life of the older men living alone.

  • We mathematically analyze the passband vestigial sideband (VSB) system for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital television standard and present a baseband-equivalent VSB model. The obtained baseband VSB model is represented by convolution of the transmission signal (before modulation) and the baseband equivalent of the complex VSB channel. Due to the operation of the physical channel as an RF passband and the asymmetrical property of VSB modulation, it is necessary to use a complex model. However, the passband channel may be reduced to an equivalent baseband. We show how to apply standard channel model information such as delay, gain, and phase for multiple signal paths to compute both the channel frequency response with a given carrier frequency and the resulting demodulated impulse response. Simulation results illustrate that the baseband VSB model is equivalent to the passband VSB model.

  • We establish two models -'intermediate' role model and 'infra-structural' role model - to confirm what role the concepts of 'long-term orientation' and 'asset specificity' execute in the context of supply chain management practices affect on SCM performances. We confirm the model's statistical significance with empirical investigation about 167 manufacturing companies in all over the country. As a result, we find that real data fits to 'infra-structural' role model with added paths of concepts and variables rather to 'intermediate' role model. We prove these results with empirical method of confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model with AMOS program.

  • The present study examined whether Kang's (1999) model of the relationships among language learning strategy use and language proficiency for the Asian students could be applied to a more heterogeneous group. In Kang's study, he collected information of language learning strategies of 957 foreign students learning English as a second language in American colleges through a questionnaire. He also measured the subjects' language proficiency with the Institutional Testing Program TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). This study analyzed the same data without the limitation of cultural identity. Structural equation modeling was used to model the relationships among strategy use and language proficiency. Then, the model of the present study was descriptively compared with Kang's (1999) model for the Asian students. The overall flow of the relationship paths appeared to vary very little across the two models, which would have indicated that the generalizability of Kang's (1999) model could be extended more than originally examined. • For improving the effectiveness of travel information, some rational paths are needed to provide them to users driving in real road network. To meet it, k-shortest path algorithms have been used in general. Although the k-shortest path algorithm can provide several alternative paths, it has inherent limit of heavy overlapping among derived paths, which nay lead to incorrect travel information to the users. In case of considering the network consisting of several turn prohibitions popularly adopted in real world network, it makes difficult for the traditional network optimization technique to deal with. Banned and penalized turns are not described appropriately for in the standard node/link method of network definition with intersections represented by nodes only. Such problem could be solved by expansion technique adding extra links and nodes to the network for describing turn penalties, but this method could not apply to large networks as well as dynamic case due to its overwhelming additional works. This paper proposes a link-based shortest path algorithm for the travel information in real road network where exists turn prohibitions. It enables to provide efficient alternative paths under consideration of overlaps among paths. The algorithm builds each path based on the degree of overlapping between each path and stops building new path when the degree of overlapping ratio exceeds its criterion. Because proposed algorithm builds the shortest path based on the link-end cost instead or node cost and constructs path between origin and destination by link connection, the network expansion does not require. Thus it is possible to save the time or network modification and of computer running. Some numerical examples are used for test of the model proposed in the paper.

  • This study presents the analysis of the identifications and determinations of the material parameters in the developed model in the former paper and their effects on the stress paths. It was shown that the influences of the parameters, specially involved in the strain rate and the viscous nucleus, were in generally acceptable range. From this point, the model was modified by identifying the plastic yield surface and the viscous yield surface in the same mathematical form. The modified model was successful in simulating stress path.

  • This study evaluated Yasufuku's constitutive model in terms of its capability to accurately consider the observed behavior of Iksan compacted weathered granite soil for various stress-paths. The strains calculated from the model are in reasonable agreement with those measured, but some discrepancies occur. The largest differences between measured and calculated strains occur for axial strain of proportional loading with increasing stress. Yasufuku's constitutive model can consider the observed behavior of Iksan compacted weathered granite soil with accuracy for conventional triaxial compression and for p'-constant loading with increasing stress ratio.

  • A computer simulation model is proposed for selecting effective agrees paths and estimating the evacuation time in case of evacuating all the residents of a building to the safe area. The physical structure of a building is formulated into a network. The followings are considered in the model : the congestion effect to the velocity, the behavioral pattern of the evacuees, and the probabilistic nature of the evacuation process. Coded in SLAM II/PC, the simulation model can generate the output such as evacuation time(max, average), utilization of exits, utilization of passages, floor clearance times, and bottleneck information. The "rigorous" validation of the proposed model is not completed yet but remains to be a future research topic.rch topic.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was propose and test a predictive model that could explain and predict factors influencing the sexual satisfaction of women with diabetes mellitus. Method: The conceptual frame for this study was formed as a hypothesized model based on Roy's adaptation model. Participants for this study were 240 out-patient women from P university hospital in Y city. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 19.0 program. Results: The paths that had direct effects on sexual satisfaction, and were statistically significant were showing intimacy with spouse, and sexual function. The explanatory power of these variables for sexual satisfaction was 64%. Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that it is necessary for enhancement of sexual satisfaction for women with diabetes to increase intimacy with husband, and that sexual function, frequency of exercise, adequate glycemic control be maintained, and depression decreased.

  • Laboratory investigation reveals that rockfills exhibit significant stress-path-dependent behavior during shearing, therefore realistic prediction of deformation of rockfill structures requires suitable constitutive models to properly reproduce such behavior. This paper evaluates the capability of a strain hardening model proposed by the authors, by comparing simulation results with large-scale triaxial stress-path test results. Despite of its simplicity, the model can simulate essential aspects of the shear behavior of rockfills, including the non-linear stress-strain relationship, the stress-dependence of the stiffness, the non-linear strength behavior, and the shearing contraction and dilatancy. More importantly, the model is shown to predict the markedly different stress-strain and volumetric behavior along various loading paths with fair accuracy. All parameters required for the model can be derived entirely from the results of conventional large triaxial tests with constant confining pressures.
