Listeromyces insignis, a species new to Mainland China, is reported and illustrated based on the specimen collected from dead branches at Mount Yuelu, Hunan Povince. This is the first report of the genus Listeromyces in Mainland China. The examined specimen is deposited in the Herbarium of the Department of Plant Pathology, Shandong Agricultural University (HSAUP).

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma of late adult life, but it is rare in the pleura. We recently experienced a case of cytology of malignant fibrous histiocytoma in plural fluid. The smear revealed histiocytic malignant cells, spindle malignant cells and inflammatory cells. The histiocytic cells showed abundant, pale cytoplasm and ovoid, irregular eccentrically-placed nuclei. The spindle cells showed elongated nuclei. Intercellular collagen was also present.

Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis, also known as Kuttner tumor, is a benign chronic inflammatory lesion of the salivary gland. Here, we describe a case of chronic sclerosing sialadenitis with mucinous ductal metaplasia in a parotid gland, which was confused with low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma on aspiration cytology.

Rhabdomyosarcomas are found mainly in young patients, but rare in adults. A correlated cytological and histologic study of one case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is presented. The cytologic appearance of the urine smear corresponded well with the histologic findings. Cytologically, two main cell types were distinguished ; a predominant primitive, small round cell with scant cytoplasm and a large cell with abundant cytoplasm. The cytologic feature proving rhabdomyoblastic differentiation, such as cross-striation, was absent.

Spontaneous subcutaneous cysts were detected from three dogs, being a 4-year-old male shih tzu, an 11-month-old female britany spaniel and a 9-month-old male mongrel. All the cysts were occurred around the joints (one elbow's and two shoulderes', respectively). After surgical removal, the lesions did not recur for 6 months follow-up. Neither cyst communicated with the joint cavity. Grossly, the subcutaneous ovoid cysts had moderate to abundant mucinous fluid. Histologically, the cyst wall consisted of inner myxomatous and outer immature connective tissue. Some parts of the cyst wall had various stages of myxoid metaplasia of collagen tissue leading to new cyst formation. The true lining cells of the inner cyst wall were not observed in all the cysts. From these results, these cases were diagnosed as subcutaneous ganglion cysts. This is the first report of canine subcutaneous ganglion cysts in Korea.

A gingival mass was detected from a 1-year-old female Great Dane dog. After surgical removal, the lesions recurred in 2 weeks and died of septicemia. Characteristic histologic features were large numbers of multinucleated giant cells which were connected with capillary vessels. Neovascularization was prominent with mononuclear and polynuclear cell infiltration. Overall features of these lesions except for giant cell infiltration were similar to granuloma. From these results, a gingival mass excised from a dog was diagnosed to be a peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG). This is the first report of canine subcutaneous PGCG in Korea.

Tumor incidence in wild mammals is reportedly very low. Wild nutria, a large rodent, is known to carry many infectious diseases, but rarely exhibits neoplastic diseases. We necropsied a male wild nutria and found a large nodular mass in the left inguinal region, adjacent to the penis. Histopathologically, the mass was diagnosed as preputial gland adenoma. Spontaneous preputial gland adenomas are extremely rare in all animals. Moreover, reports of tumors in nutrias have been limited to adenocarcinomas of the lungs and uterus, as well as subcutaneous fibromas. Here, we describe preputial gland adenoma in a wild nutria.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor. Few cases on fine needle aspiration cytology have been reported in the literature. We experienced a case of recurrent alveolar soft part sarcoma of the right thigh diagnosed by fine needle aspiration cytology in a 47-year-old man. Cytologic findings showed single cells and clusters associated with thin wailed vasculature in a distinct pseudo-alveolar pattern. The tumor cells exhibited round or ovoid abundant granular cytoplasm and large pleomorphic nuclei with prominent central nucleoli.

Primary malignant melanoma of vagina is a rare tumor which is easily misinterpretated in routine cytologic examination. We lately experienced a case of primary malignant melanoma of the vagina with direct cervical extension diagnosed by Pap smear. The cervicovaginal smear showed variable sized clusters of epithelial cells or singly scattered abnormal epithelial cells. Most of the tumor cells had round hyperchromatic nuclei with prominent nucleoli and brownish pigments in cytoplasm. The cytologic findings are compared with histologic features of resected specimen.

Peripheral neuroepithelioma (PNE) of soft tissue is a malignant neuroectodermal tumor arising from peripheral (nonautonomic) nerve. It nay occur in both children and adults, and are highly aggressive neoplasms that rapidly give rise to metastatic disease and death. We exprienced a case of peripheral neuroepithelioma of soft tissue in the upper arm in a 18-year-old female. Cytologic features revealed small round cells with scanty cytoplasm occurring both singly and in clusters. The clusters frequently tended to form Homer-Wright rosettes. The cells had a round to oval nucleus with fine chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli in a hemorrhagic background.
