  • The resonance characteristic of microstrip antenna with an airgap between the substrate layer and ground plane is investigated. The study is performed by using a rigorous Green’s function formulation in the spectral domain and Galerkin’s moment method calculation. The numerical convergence using sinusoidal basis functions, the unknown surface current distribution in the rectangular patch, is discussed. Numerical result for the effects of airgap and patch length on the complex resonant frequencies of the rectangular microstrip structure are also presented

  • Landcover change is an important factor that changes structure and function of regional ecosystem. As the rise of concern on environment quality, many studies are trying to quantify and evaluate the landsacpe in recent days. In this study, using landscape indices with RS(Remote Sensing) and GIS(Geographic Information System) technology, spatio-temporal variations of areas and distribution of forest patches were examined in the Chonan from 1985 to 1996. Fragstats 2.0 was employed to analyze and compute 31 landscape indices from 52 landcover maps. A result of this study showed that area of forest and paddy decreased as a result of urban sprawl. Especially from 1993 to 1996, the change of land use progressed rapidly because of merging a city and a country in Chonan. The size of patch in forest had been smaller and irregular form, heterogeneity of size of forest patches within sub-basin increased, and variety of patch types around forest patches increased from 1985 to 1996.

  • In this paper, an modal analysis based on the distribution of the electromagnetic fields on the UWB elliptical patch-slot antenna is presented. We designed the UWB antenna by iterating the dimensional parameters of the antenna as the traditional design method. Then the antenna was carefully analyzed using 3D E-M simulator. The result of the analysis shows that the slot antenna operates on a series of the multi-pole radiations based on TE modes matched to the system impedance. This result gives us an easier method to design the similar antennas, which is the impedance matching to the system impedance after once constructing a proper structure with a series of multi-mode resonances.

  • Cyathea gigantea is a tree fern distributed throughout humid tropical regions of northeast India and other parts of the country. However, wild populations of this species are largely affected by various natural and anthropogenic activities. Therefore, an attempt was made to study the population structure and regeneration status of C. gigantea in and around greater Itanagar area of Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh. Altogether 45 patches, ranging from 19.63 to $260m^2$ of area, were randomly sampled to study population structure and regeneration status of the species. Population study showed highest number of youngs in the height class of 0.50-0.75 m while, immatures were recorded highest in the height class of 2.0 to 2.5 m. Majority of the matures belonged to 6-9 m height class while it was recorded maximum in the diameter class of 10-15 cm. Average density of C. gigantea was $0.07individuals\;ha^{-1}$ which varied greatly among different patches with a range of 2 to 14. Significant correlations were found between patch size and density of youngs, immatures, matures and total density. Maximum concentration of youngs was observed in patch size $60-140m^2$, while for immatures, it was highest in patch size $20-160m^2$. Similarly, highest concentration of matures was observed in patch size $20-80m^2$ and $80-180m^2$. Population structure of the total population exhibited inverted pyramid shaped distribution. Population structure consisting of youngs, immatures, matures showed that around 60% patches lack of regenerating individuals which depict very poor natural regeneration of the species. Effective conservation strategies are therefore to be formulated to save C. gigantea from the threat of extinction in near future.

  • As the development and distribution of the intelligent transport system is spreading recently and some of the services are commercialized through a pilot project, interest in DSRC with high utilization is increasing and antennas for roadside and on board equipment are being studied. A single patch was used for a vehicle antenna due to the requests of miniaturization of size, but there was performance degradation in most cases due to miniaturization. In addition, some methods to improve performance have been used in the antennas that were previously researched using the arrays, but they have the disadvantages of bulkiness in size of the antennas when using the arrays. Therefore, in this paper, the CPW fed microstrip patch antenna with the simple structure of being compact and easy to produce, which can be used in the OBU of DSRC, was designed.

  • In this paper, to reduce the size of patch, three types of 3-dimensional patch antennas which are one-directionally-corrugaged type, rectangular ring-likely corrugated type, and lattice-likely corrugated type rectangular microstrip patch antennas(MPA) are designed and fabricated at the 1.575 GHz. As the result, one-directionally corrugated rectangular MPA is reduced in the resonant length of patch by 21.4% than that of general plane MPA. -10 dB bandwidth(B.W) is 62 MHz(3.9 %) and this is broader than that(39 MHz, 2.5 %) of plane MPA by 23 MHz(1.5 %). The gain is 5.8 dBd and this is reduced by 0.9 dB than that(6.7 dBd) of plane MPA. Half power beamwidth(HPBW) is broadened by 18$^{\circ}$ than that of plane MPA in the E-plane and this is due to the reduced length of patch. For rectangular ring-likely corrugated retangular MPA, the patch size is miniaturized by 21.6 % than that of plane MPA. For lattice-likely corrugated rectangular MPA, in the linear polarization, the size of patch is miniaturized by 43.3 % than that of plane MPA. -10 dB B.W is 70 MHz(4.4 %) and this is broadened than that of plane MPA by 31 MHz(2 %). Gain is 2.2 dBd and this is smaller than that of plane MPA by 4.5 dB. HPBW is increased in both E-plane and H-plane by 22$^{\circ}$ and 13$^{\circ}$, respectively. For circular polarization, the size of patch is reduced by 41 % than that by 41 %. The axial ratio(AR) is 0.8 dB at the 1.575 GHz and the axial ratio bandwidth(ARBW) within 2 dB is 20 MHz(1.27 %) and this is increased by 10 MHz(0.63 %) than that 10 MHz(0.63 %) of plane MPA. From all the results above, it is conformed that the proposed antenna has merit in size reduction of patch and in the input impedance B.W, and is more profitable in many application than the general plane type MPA.

  • This study was conducted to identify seed inflow characteristics according to harvest typeand to provide basic data for developing a regeneration technology for secondary growth forests in Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) succession forest formation by natural regeneration. Experimental sites were established by applying seed tree (single and group) and clear-cutting methods (10- 20- 30-m strip and 20- 30- 40-m patch). The seed inflow characteristics of the natural regeneration site were analyzed for 6 years from 2014. Most seeds were flowed to the regeneration stand from October to November. In years with good seed fructification, more than 80% were flowed in October. The average annual seed inflow by harvest type was highest in the seed tree area (296,000 seeds/ha/yr), followed by the 20-m patch clear-cutting area (291,000 seeds/ha/yr) and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (281,000 seeds/ha/yr). The distribution uniformity of seed inflow according to treatment was analyzed in the order of the 20-m strip clear-cutting area (52.2), 20-m patch clear-cutting area (52.9), and 10-m strip clear-cutting area (56.1). As a result, the 10-m strip and 20-m patch clear-cutting areas with relatively small harvest areas showed high seed inflow and distribution uniformity.

  • Regeneration process of edaphic pine(Pinus densiflora) climax forest in Bulyung-gyegog, Uljin-gun, Kyungsangbuk-do, was studied. The height of dominant trees in the stands are 12 15m. Upper layers are highly dominated by pine trees and are randomly distributed. Pine trees in lower layer grow in a patch type. In the upper layer, the age distribution is likely one model type with mode of 60 and 80 years. In the horizontal distribution of these trees, some of the even-aged cluster constituted of several tree were found. For the first 25 years, the stem diameter increment rates in upper layer are higher than those in the middle layer. It could be concluded that after the forest canopy had been broken out, the seedlings established densely in a patch in the gap with the decreasing density and some of them, distributed in random, would constitute the canopy.
