  • Recently, it is increased to use the portable device with small size. It is also increasing for demand of a small size adapter. To reduce the size of components, switching frequency has to be increased. But it causes higher switching loss and temperature of components. Especially, the temperature of adapter must be limited because adapter can be easily touched when portable device is being charged. To reduce temperature of adapter, high efficiency is essential. To solve this problem, this paper proposes design of resonance frequency optimization for LLC converter with high efficiency and low temperature of passive components.

  • With the wide-spread use of rectifier in electronic equipments, such problems as electronic components failures or equipment disorders have been occurred due to current harmonics. To overcome these problems, power factor correction circuits employing boost converter have been used. The switching stress of boost converter can be reduced by snubber circuit. Recently, research activities in snubber circuits have been directed to energy recovery snubber for improving the efficiency of power converter. In this study, a new passive snubber circuit which can recover trapped snubber energy without added control is proposed for boost converter The control of boost converter with proposed snubber is the same as the conventional one. In addition, the energy recovery circuit can be implemented with a few passive components. The circuit operation is confirmed through simulation.

  • This paper deals with an equivalent circuit model for RF passive components. Rational functions are obtained from the frequency responses of EM simulation by using Foster canonical partial fraction expressions. The Vector Fitting(VF) and the Adaptive Frequency Sampling(AFS) scheme are also implemented to obtain the rational functions. A passivity enforcement algorithm is applied to ensure the stability of the equivalent circuit model. In order to verify the schemes, S parameters of the equivalent circuit model is compared to those of EM simulation in case of the microstrip line structure with 3 slots in ground.

  • With the advances on wireless internet technology, many research on minimization of wireless LAN is on the progress. To apply passive components in MCM, characteristic analysis of passive components is essential. In this paper, three square spiral inductors were modeled by HSPICE using PEEC (Partial Element Equivalent Circuit) method. Afterwards, Monte-Carlo analysis was performed to evaluate the optimized parameters. This work will give an idea on PEEC modeling of spiral inductor, and enable researchers with predictive data before large scale manufacturing.

  • The reactive and harmonic current components of dc loads can be compensated by the three-phase hybrid power filter (HPF) system. After compensation, the resulting current has sinusoidal and in-phase components with the source voltage. The HPF system is constructed by an active filter and passive filters. The passive filter reduce the 5th and 7th harmonic of the load current. The active filter compensates the remainder of the load current. Using the HPF system, a low cost harmonic compensator can be made. Performance of the HPF system is verified through simulation,

  • In this study, we present a new topology for realizing a grounded inductor employing only a single current conveyor, called a negative-type modified inverting second-generation current conveyor (MICCII-), and a minimum number of passive components, two resistors, and one capacitor. The non-ideality effects of the MICCII- on a simulated inductor are investigated. To demonstrate the performance of the presented inductance simulator, we use it to construct a third order Butterworth high-pass filter and a parallel resonant circuit. Simulation results are given to confirm the theoretical analysis.

  • The main switch of high-frequency boost converter may be failed because the high switching current or voltage can damage this switch. The high switching stress can be reduced by snubber circuit. In this paper, a new passive snubber circuit which can recover trapped snubber energy without added control is proposed for boost converter. The control of boost converter with proposed snubber is the same as the conventional one. In addition, the energy recovery circuit can be implemented with a few passive components. The analysis for proposed circuit is presented, and the validity of the circuit is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • As micro-system move toward higher speed and miniaturization, requirements for embedding the passive components into printed circuit boards (PCBs) grow consistently. They should be fabricated in smaller size with maintaining and even improving the overall performance. Miniaturization potential steps from the replacement of surface-mount components and the subsequent reduction of the required wiring-board real estate. Among the embedded passive components, capacitors are most widely studied because they are the major components in terms of size and number. Embedding of passive components such as capacitors into polymer-based PCB is becoming an important strategy for electronics miniaturization, device reliability, and manufacturing cost reduction Now days, the dielectric films deposited directly on the polymer substrate are also studied widely. The processing temperature below $200^{\circ}C$ is required for polymer substrates. For a low temperature deposition, bismuth-based pyrochlore materials are known as promising candidate for capacitor $B_2Mg_{2/3}Nb_{4/3}O_7$ ($B_2MN$) multi layers were deposited on Pt/$TiO_2/SiO_2$/Si substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering system at room temperature. The physical and structural properties of them are investigated by SEM, AFM, TEM, XPS. The dielectric properties of MIM structured capacitors were evaluated by impedance analyzer (Agilent HP4194A). The leakage current characteristics of MIM structured capacitor were measured by semiconductor parameter analysis (Agilent HP4145B). 200 nm-thick $B_2MN$ muti layer were deposited at room temperature had capacitance density about $1{\mu}F/cm^2$ at 100kHz, dissipation factor of < 1% and dielectric constant of > 100 at 100kHz.
