In this paper, we propose a new target tracking filter architecture using active and passive sensors in underwater environment. A passive sensor for target tracking needs a bearing measurement of target. And target tracking filter for using passive sensor has the observability problem. On the other hand, an active sensor does not have the problem associated with system observability problem because an active sensor uses bearing and range measurement. In this paper, the tracking filter algorithm that could be used in the active and passive sensor system is proposed to analyze maneuvering target and to improve target tracking performance. The proposed tracking filter algorithm is tested by a series of computer simulation runs and the results are analyzed and compared with existing algorithm.

This paper proposes a linear distributed target tracking filter for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) sharing their passive sensor measurements through communication channels. Different from the conventional nonlinear filtering schemes, the distributed passive target tracking problem is newly formulated within the framework of a linear robust state estimation theory incorporated with a linear uncertain measurement equation including the coordinate transform uncertainty. To effectively cope with the performance degradation due to the coordinate transform uncertainty, a linear consistent robust Kalman filter(CRKF) theory is devised and applied for designing a distributed passive target tracking filter. Through the simulations for typical UAV surveillance mission, the superior performance of the proposed method over the existing schemes of distributed passive target tracking are demonstrated.

The passive direction finding cross localization method is widely adopted in passive tracking, therefore there will exist masses of false intersection points. Eliminating these false intersection points correctly and quickly is a key technique in passive localization. A new method is proposed for passive locating and tracking multi-jammer target in this paper. It not only solves the difficulty of determining the number of targets when masses of false intersection points existing, but also solves the initialization problem of elastic network. Thus this method solves the problem of multi-jammer target correlation and the elimination of static false intersection points. The method which dynamically establishes multiple hypothesis trajectory trees solves the problem of eliminating the remaining false intersection points. Simulation results show that computational burden of the method is lower, the elastic network can more quickly find all or most of the targets and have a more probability of locking the real targets. This method can eliminate more false intersection points.

This paper deals with the design and control of passive multiple trailer systems for practical applications. Due to the cost and complexity of the trailer mechanism, passive systems are preferred to active systems in this research. The design and control objective is to minimize the trajectory tracking errors occurring in passive multiple trailers. Three sorts of passive trailer systems, off-hooked, direct-hooked, and three-point, are discussed in this paper. Trajectory tracking performance and stability issues under constant curvature reference trajectories are investigated for these three types. As well, various simulations and experiments have been performed for each type. It is shown that the proposed off-hooked trailer system produces a tracking performance that is superior to the others.

This paper addresses a new passive target tracking problem using the range differences measured by cooperative UAVs. In order to solve the range difference based passive target tracking problem within the framework of linear robust state estimation, the uncertain linear measurement model which contains the stochastic parameter uncertainty is derived by using the noisy range difference measurements. To cope with the performance degradation due to the stochastic parameter uncertainty, the recently developed non-conservative robust Kalman filtering technique [1] is applied. For the cruciform formation flying UAVs, the relationship between the target tracking performance and the measurement errors is quantitatively analyzed. The proposed filter has practical advantages over the classical nonlinear filters because, for its recursive linear structure, it can provide satisfactory convergence properties and is suitable for real-time multiple UAVs applications. Through the simulations, the usefulness of the proposed method is demonstrated.
In this study, a direct position tracking method for non-circular (NC) signals using distributed passive arrays is proposed. First, we calculate the initial positions of sources using a direct position determination (DPD) approach; next, we transform the tracking into a compensation problem. The offsets of the adjacent time positions are calculated using a first-order Taylor expansion. The fusion calculation of the noise subspace is performed according to the NC characteristics. Because the proposed method uses the signal information from the previous iteration, it can realize automatic data associations. Compared with traditional DPD and two-step localization methods, our novel process has lower computational complexity and provides higher accuracy. Moreover, its performance is better than that of the traditional tracking methods. Numerous simulation results support the superiority of our proposed method.
In towed array passive sonar system, sonar operators cannot detect and track the all targets simultaneously in the omni-directional area by just Operator Initiated Tracking(OIT). In this paper, omni-directional automatic target detection and tracking algorithm is described and optimize the parameters through ocean data to overcome the drawbacks of OITs. The algorithm is verified through sea trials with submarines.
This paper deals with the problem of generating the energy optimal trajectory which is intended to enhance the target tracking performance of a passive homing missile. Noticing that the essence of passive target tracking is the range estimation problem, the target information gathered by passive measurements can be readily analyzed by introducing the range estimator designed in line-of-sight(LOS) frame. Moreover, for the linear filter structure of the suggested range estimator, the cost function associated with the target information is clearly expressed as a function of the line-of-sight rate. Based on this idea, the optimal missile trajectory maximizing the target information is obtained by solving the saddle point problem for an indefinite quadratic cost which consists of the target information and the energy. It is shown that, different from the previous heuristic approaches, the guidance command producing the optimal passive homing trajectory is produced by the modified proportional navigation guidance law whose navigation constant is determined by the weighting coefficient for target information cost.
