Corrosion failure analysis of the flow plate, which is one of the accessories of the plate heat exchanger in a district heating system, was performed. The flow plate is made of 316 stainless steel, and water at different temperatures in the flow plate exchanges heat in a non-contact manner. The flow plate samples in which water mixing issues occurred were collected. Corrosion-induced pits, oxides, and contaminants were observed at locations where two plates are regularly in contact. The EDS analysis of the surface oxides and contaminants revealed that they were composed of carbon, silicon, and magnesium, which came from chemical adhesives. The IC/ICP analyses showed that the concentration of chloride ions was 30 ~ 40 ppm, which was not sufficient to cause corrosion of stainless steel. In the crevice, a local decrease in dissolved oxygen occurs along with an increase in chloride ions, thus forming an acidic environment. These environments destroyed the passive film of stainless steel, resulting in pits. Moreover, contaminants formed a narrower gap between the two metal plates and inhibited the diffusion of ions, thereby accelerating crevice corrosion.

Recently, the demand for low-voltage, high-capacity ESS is rapidly increasing due to the revitalization of the e-mobility industry, which is mainly powered by electricity. In addition, the demand for portable power banks is rapidly increasing due to the revitalization of leisure industries such as camping and fishing. The ESS with this structure consists of a small number of series cells and many parallel cells, resulting in a system with a large rated current. Therefore, the number of power devices for cell balancing configured in series is small, but a balancing device with a large current capacity is required. Construction of a constant temperature device in such a low-voltage, high-current ESS is difficult due to economic issues. The demand for an active balancing system that can solve the passive balancing heating problem is rapidly increasing. In this paper, propose a power feedback fly-back topology that can solve the balancing heating problem. The characteristic of the proposed topology is that a series-connected voltage sharing voltage is used as the input of the flyback converter, and the converter output is connected to one transformer. In this structure, the converter output for cell voltage balancing shares magnetic flux through one high-frequency transformer, so the cell voltage connected to the converter automatically converges to the same voltage.

This study analyzes the energy performance of a elderly care center building and the applicability of a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system through simulation approach. For this purpose, a building information modeling (BIM) program and an energy performance calculation program were used. The impact of the mechanical ventilation system on the energy requirements of the heating and cooling system and the indoor environment was also analyzed, focusing on the change in indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration, which is a representative indicator of the indoor environment (air quality). The simulation results showed that the target building exceeds Level 7 in terms of simulated primary energy consumption or actual energy consumption. In addition, it was analyzed that the target building could not maintain the indoor CO2 concentration below the standard concentration by natural ventilation through window opening alone. Combining the GSHP system with the mechanical ventilation system (Case B and Case C) can further reduce the overall energy consumption by reducing the amount of outdoor air introduced by opening windows. The cost savings compared to the baseline case are estimated to be 67.3% for Case A, 63.7% for Case B, 65.5% for Case C, and 42.5% for Case D. It is necessary to analyze the impact of various renewable energy technologies and passive ones on the energy performance and indoor environment of elderly care centers.

A cost-effective dense WDM-PON employing wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot lasers has been demonstrated. We have successfully demonstrated a dense WDM transmission of 4×622 Mb/s upstream signal with 50-GHz channel spacing over 30-km conventional single mode fiber. We have also investigated the heating noise characteristics of a wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser and showed the wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser suppresses the intensity noise of the incoherent light injected which enables a dense WDM transmission with a channels spacing of 50 GHz.
Architects may evaluate building models to see how a building will shadow itself and its neighbors at various times. A heliodon, a tilt-table which is a machine that imitates the rotation and orbit of the Earth, helps architects wanting to analyze patterns of shadow patch, passive solar heating options, site solar panels, or control solar heat gain. The heliodon swivels in three directions for setting latitude, season, and time of day. Using the device, an architect first clamps a model to the tabletop, then turns the table to the coordinates of interest. Usually, the winter and summer solstices receive strong attention, for they represent extreme cases, A more recent installation at a university adds to its heliodon a set of lamps to recreate the illumination level and more accurate patterns of shadow patch. The table holds the building model at various angles to a spotlight, which mounts in the pole. The set of scale model measurement describes the validity of various electric lamps as an artificial sun to approximate the sun's parallel rays, helping designers to distinguish between illuminated areas in and around a building and those regions falling in the shadows.
Energy and environmental concerns accelerate the interest in passive solar heating in buildings, which utilizes solar energy through natural heat transfer. Moreover concerns about environmentally friendly materials were also increased. This study aims to evaluate the thermal performance of a Trombe wall built with earth. The thermal performance of the Trombe walls was analysed with results from computer simulations with TRNSYS 15. The thermal performance of the three types of Trombe wall was compared.: concrete. rammed earth. adobe. It was found that Trombe wall with the thermal storage wall of earth performed better than that of concrete. Rammed earth and adobe Trombe walls gained 4.7% and 12.8% more solar energy. respectively. than the concrete Trombe wall. In earth-applied Trombe walls. the energy gain by natural convection released from the airspace was about 75% of the total solar gains. that took 15% more than concrete Trombe wall. Rammed earth and adobe Trombe walls seem to be more suitable for buildings that use mostly in daytime. such as school, office and so on.
The concept of sustainable development to preserve natural environment through economy in resources and energy is gradually distinguished since environmental problems as a series of air pollution and global warming take place now. Building occupies more than 1/3 of energy consumption in the whole world. Energy consumption of buildings caused a quick increase in the amount of energy use by air conditioning, which has a lot of effects on exhaustion of fossil energy as well as an increase in environmental load. Therefore, this research intends to suggest characteristics and direction for the designing of acclimatization's housing through the case study on acclimatization's housing. Acclimatization's housing is designed to reduce building load from the designing stage unlike green home or low-energy apartment. Also, factors which are commonly applied to acclimatization's housing are applied complexly by design strategic factors of Heating, Cooling and Lighting. The applied design factors make effects mutually and complexly. In addition, design strategy showed different priority by designing direction.
Purpose: In 2008, As the green growth policy was presented, Green Building is made any effort to propagation. In this paper, the respective technologies that are able to considerably reduce the energy demands for heating, cooling, hot-water, lighting and ventilation among the variety of technologies were selected. Method: Design factors such as (1) External insulation, (2) Triple glazing window, (3) LED lighting, (4) External venetian blind, (5) Geothermal and (6) Heat recovery ventilator were derived. In addition, energy saving effects in terms of energy demand, energy consumption and energy cost were investigated using EnergyPlus, building energy analysis tool. Result : The results were as follows. (1) It can be seen that high insulated triple glazing window, heat recovery ventilator and external insulation technology is excellent for energy demand. (2) Unlike energy demand, saving effect of energy consumption and energy cost was shown in order of Geothermal > Triple Window > Heat recovery Ventilation> Insulation> LED Lighting > EVB Blind.
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a complex process with several mutually interdependent parameters. A slight difference from known settings may lead to imperfections in the stirred zone. These inhomogeneities affect on the mechanical properties of the FSWed joints. In order to prevent the failure of the welded joint it is necessary to detect the most critical defects non-destructive. Especially critical defects are wormhole and lack of penetration (LOP), because of the difficulty of detection. Online thermography is used process-accompanying for defect detecting. A thermographic camera with a fixed position relating to the welding tool measures the heating-up and the cool down of the welding process. Lap joints with sound weld seam surfaces are manufactured and monitored. Different methods of evaluation of heat distribution and intensity profiles are introduced. It can be demonstrated, that it is possible to detect wormhole and lack of penetration as well as surface defects by analyzing the welding and the cooling process of friction stir welding by passive online thermography measurement. Effects of these defects on mechanical properties are shown by tensile testing.
Ecological architecture enables people to recycle and reuse architectural resources within the category of ecosystem and also to minimize the effect on environment in a whole process, including architectural planning, usage and exhaustion to use sustainable energies. Rammed earth wall construction method utilized in EcoCenter located in Crystalwaters ecological village in Austrailia is a good example, which maximizes its advantages and also covers its limits to use soil and wood as structural resources. In a case of wood, they used non-treated timber to minimize environmental load and utilized used materials in openings. In the roofs, aluminum coated steel which is plated with zinc collects rain effectively even though it is not regenerable. Nontoxic finishes and insulation in floor and ceiling with used papers are able to minimize its environmental load. Solar energy system applied in EcoCenter enables them to market extra energy with electricity companies as well as support needs of its own buildings to utilize photovoltaic panel system with PV panels. Passive solar system is planned effectively in heating and cooling to apply regenerative walls in a use of rammed earth wall construction and natural ventilation systems through openings.
