  • The present study investigates convective heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics inside a rotating two-pass rectangular duct. A naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the detailed local heat transfer coefficients using the heat and mass transfer analogy. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of turning geometry with rotation for 0.0$\leq$Ro$\leq$0.24. The results reveal that the sharp-turn corner has the larger pressure drop and lower heat transfer in the post-turn region than those of the round-turn corner. The strong secondary flow enhances heat transfer for the round-turn corner. Coriolis force induced by the rotation pushes the high momentum core flow toward the trailing wall in the first passage with radially outward flow and toward the leading wall in the second passage with radially inward flow. Consequently, the high heat transfer rates are generated on the trailing surface and the leading surface in the first and second passage, respectively. However, the strong secondary flow due to the turning dominates the flow pattern in the second passage, thus the heat transfer differences between the leading and trailing surfaces are small with the rotation.

  • This study proposes a deep reinforcement learning-based algorithm to automatically generate a ship's passage plan. First, Busan Port and Gwangyang Port were selected as target areas, and a container ship with a draft of 16m was designated as the target vessel. The experimental results showed that the ship's passage plan generated using deep reinforcement learning was more efficient than the Q-learning-based algorithm used in previous research. This algorithm presents a method to generate a ship's passage plan automatically and can contribute to improving maritime safety and efficiency.

  • We handle the stochastic processes of independent and identically distributed random variables. But random variables are usually dependent among themselves in actual life. So in this paper, we find out a new process not satisfying Markov property. We investigate the probability mass functions and study on the probability of the first-passage time. Also we find out the average frequency of continuous successes in from 0 to n time.

  • Flow fields in model engine cooling passages are studied numerically by using TURBO-3D program, a finite volume based 3-D turbulent flow program adopting a general body fitted coordinate system. The effects of exit position on mass flow rate at each gasket hole are examined for a model cooling passage in order to understand the flow distribution inside the water jacket. The results of the present study can be applied to the design of high performance, high reliability engine.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the transport characteristics of passage cultured l1uman nasal epithelial cell monolayers grown on Transwell@ inserts using liquid-covered culture (LCC) method. The monolayer of passage 2 and 3 exhibited tight barrier (TEER>1,000 ohmxcm$^2$) in 2-3 days after seeding. In the morphological studies by actin staining and SEM/TEM, the existence of tight junction was clearly observed. (omitted)

  • The thermal and hydraulic characteristics of the cooling passage for HTS power cable should be carefully investigated to get the highly reliable and economic operation. In this study, the pressure drop and temperature change of the coolant flowing the corrugated passage was estimated using the simple one-dimensional approach, and the temperature distribution in the radial direction was calculated. The results show the dependency of the mass flow rate, thermal conductivities on the cooling performance of the HTS cable.

  • Three-dimensional endwall flow within a linear cascade passage of high performance turbine blade is simulated with a 3-D Navier-Stokes CFD code (MOSA3D), which is based on body-fitted coordinate system, pressure-correction and finite volume method. The endwall flow characteristics, including the development and generation of horseshoe vortex, passage vortex, etc. are clearly simulated, consistent with the generally known tendency. The effects of both turbulence model and convective differencing scheme on the prediction performance of endwall flow are systematically analyzed in the present paper. The convective scheme is found to have stronger effect than the turbulence model on the prediction performance of endwall flow. The present simulation result also indicates that the suction leg of the horseshoe vortex continues on the suction side until it reaches the trailing edge.

  • The navigation problem of robot is one of the main themes to deal with conficts or interferences between obstacles and the robot itself In this case, while the robot avoids obstacles on the space, the passage route should be determined efficiently. In order to solve problems above, we have come up with the distance field space medel (DFM) and then, under known environment, we have presented the distance field A algorithm for passage route path search. In this research, the method of performing the 3-dimensional passage route path search of robot under unknown environment is proposed. It is shown that the authors can build the distance search model the does not need space division by taking into account of sensor information to a distance field space model, and constructing this information as virtual obstacle information.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of swirl combustion chamber diesel engine by changing the jet passage area and its angle, the depth and shape of the piston top cavity(main chamber). The performance of diesel engine with newly changed swirl combustion chamber was tested through the experimental conditions as engine speed, load and injection timing etc. The test results were compared and analyzed. The rate of fuel consumption was affected significantly by the jet passage area at the high speed and load, by the depth of the piston top cavity at the low speed and load. The exhaust smoke density and exhaust gas temperature depended sensitively on variation of the injection timing rather than the shape of the combustion chamber within the experimental conditions.

  • In Pusan Harbour, new port development projects are implemented such as the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal, Pusan New Port, the Navy $\bigcirc$$\bigcirc$ piers, etc. which will require new marine traffic environments in the Passage I of Pusan Harbour. Specially, the turning basin of the Extended Terminal adjacent to the Gamman Terminal has been designed to overlay the Passage I of Pusan Harbour, which will interrupt the inbound traffic flow and the results will be worried to decrease the efficiency of port operation. Therefore, this paper will be aimed to evaluate the traffic congestion in the Pusan Passage I due to the opening of new ports within Pusan Harbour in 2006 and 2011 by using computer simulation based the queueing theory.
