  • The effect of various environmental conditions on the durability of E-glass fiber/vinylester resin composites have been investigated using the tensile test specimen of strand type. It was found that the durability test method performed by the stand type specimen was more convenient and reliable than other conventional test method. The weight gains increased with the immersion time in both water and alkaline solution, and the Weight gains at $50^{\circ}C$. were much bigger than those at $20^{\circ}C$ in both conditions. The tensile strength decreased with the pass of immersion time in all aqueous solution, and the tensile strength at $80^{\circ}C$ in alkaline solution decreased very steeply at beginning of immersion time. The decrement of tensile strength according to the immersion time in various environmental conditions was mainly caused by the degradation of interface and the damage of glass fiber surface.

  • Nowadays, repair welding on in-service natural gas pipeline is a matter of primary concern of gas company. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of welding conditions on the allowable heat input for crack-free welds and welds without burn-through onto in-service natural gas pipeline. First of all, single pass weld bead on plates of the various thickness was deposited to evaluate the penetration of weld metal, the depth of heat affected zone and the hardness of repair weld under various welding conditions. Also, finite element analysis has been conducted to validate experimental results of bead-on plate welds and to develop appropriate model for repair welding. The welding experiments of bead-on-plate weld confirmed the influence of plate thickness, heat input and welding process on safety. And, the finite element model was demonstrated by comparing experimental results. The agreement between the computed and measured values was shown to be generally good. Therefore, It is possible to predict the safety of repair welding under various welding conditions with experimental results and finite element analysis model.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a band-pass waveguide filter with a modified H-type resonant iris (RI) placed in a thin transverse wall of a rectangular waveguide. The horizontal straight gap at the center of a conventional H-shaped iris is modified to a U-shaped one to increase the equivalent capacitance, and the equivalent inductance is improved by changing the vertical two straight slots into C-shaped ones. From some simulation results for the frequency response of the proposed RI, it was observed that the proposed iris was advantageous for reducing its size and having better cutoff, compared to typical H-shaped one. Equivalent inductance, capacitance, and quality factor of the proposed RI were extracted to analyze its performance. A third-order band pass filter using the proposed modified H-shaped iris was designed and, it was observed that the filter operated in the frequency range of 9.18-9.84 GHz with its insertion loss of 0.3 dB and return loss of 14 dB.

  • Engine valve seat and face, which are the important factors affecting engine performance, are required to have wear, heat and corrosion resistance. In order to produce surface layer with these characteristics, PTA(plasma transferred arc) surfacing procedure is generally employed, but problems, such as large HAZ and high dilution etc., frequently occurr. Laser cladding, which overcomes the drawbacks of conventional technologies, can be employed to create a superior clad layer with low dilution, small heat affected zone, and minimal distortion. However, in case cladding is to be applied to a large area, it is necessary to overlap 1 pass clad layer because of limited clad layer width. Two criteria for the overlapping ratio-beam size and clad layer width-have been considered thus far. Upon inspection of multi pass clads, produced by different overlapping criteria, it was observed that the greater the increase in overlapping ratio, the greater was the decrease in clad layer width and increase in clad layer height regardless of the criterion used. However, a multi pass clad overlapped by the beam size criterion demonstrated a higher hardness value than a clad overlapped by the clad layer width owing to decreasing dilution of the substrate. In conclusion, the beam size was defined as the criterion for the overlapping, because the clad layer width increased or decreased depending upon process parameters.

  • Many problems are occurred by using industrial by-product and municipal solid waste in the cement manufacturing process. The main components of chlorine by-pass dust generated by the use of the wastes are $K^+$, $Cl^-$, and a slight amount of heavy metals is also contained. In terms of waste recycling, it is necessary to eliminate the heavy metals. Therefore, in this study, the experiments for the removal of heavy metals from KCl which was produced by chlorine by-pass dust were conducted. In order to find optimum conditions for the removal of heavy metals, we have controlled the amount of water and precipitator. The type and concentration of heavy metals in KCl were analyzed. The concentration of heavy metals decreased as amount of precipitator increased. The heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, and As were not detected in dust A and B, when the mixing ratios between dust A(B) and water were controlled to be 1:2 (1:2, 1:3.5) with the addition of 3% precipitator (NaOCl).

  • Esophageal atresia (EA) with proximal tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF; gross type B) is a rare defect. Although most patients have long-gap EA, there are still no established surgical guidelines. A premature male infant with symmetric intrauterine growth retardation (birth weight, 1,616 g) was born at 35 weeks and 5 days of gestation. The initial diagnosis was pure EA (gross type A) based on failure to pass an orogastric tube and the absence of stomach gas. A "feed and grow" approach was implemented, with gastrostomy performed on postnatal day 2. A fistula was detected during bronchoscopy for recurrent pneumonia; thus, we confirmed type B EA and performed TEF excision and cervical end esophagostomy. As the infant's stomach volume was insufficient for bolus feeding after reaching a body weight of 2.5 kg, continuous tube feeding was provided through a gastrojejunal tube. On the basis of these findings, esophageal reconstruction with gastric pull-up was performed on postnatal day 141 (infant weight, 4.7 kg), and he was discharged 21 days postoperatively. At 12 months after birth, there was no catch-up growth; however, he is currently receiving a baby food diet without any complications. In patients with EA, bronchoscopy is useful for confirming TEF, whereas for those with long-gap EA with a small stomach volume, esophageal reconstruction with gastric pull-up after continuous feeding through a gastrojejunal tube is worth considering.

  • We have developed an electrostatic precipitation (ESP) type air cleaner for indoor air quality and investigated its performances regarding CADR (Clean air delivery rate), single-pass efficiency and gas removal efficiency. The ESP air cleaner used an ACF (Activated carbon fiber) filter for gas removal and the ACF as a high voltage electrode for particle removal. The ESP air cleaner was tested in a chamber with the volume of $1m^3$ regarding CADR and gas removal efficiency. The applied CADR area of the ESP was $1.8m^2$. Gas removal efficiency was tested with 3 gases (Acetaldehyde, Acetic acid, Ammonia). As the results of the gas removal efficiency, the ESP air cleaner shows the removal efficiencies of 90, 98 and 85% for acetaldehyde, acetic acid and ammonia, respectively.

  • Stellite 12 alloy-powder was overlaid on 410 stainless steel valve seat using plasma transferred arc(PTA) process. Variation of characteristic of microstructure and hardness of deposit with current(90~150 A) and preheat temperature(R.T.~$400^{\circ}C$) was investigated. Important conclusion obtained are as follows; All welding conditions used produced a sound deposit layer with no defect in single pass welding. The maximum deposit had 4.0~4.8 mm in thickness and its bead width was increased with increase of current and preheat temperature. The deposit showed hypoeutectic microstruture, which was consisting of primary cobalt dendrite and networked $M_7C_3$ type eutectic carbides. The amount of eutectic carbides was decreased and its dendritic secondary arm spacing was increased with increase of current. Hardness of the deposit was decreased with increase of current. Preheat temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$, however, showed little influence on the hardness and microstructure. The hardness was also influenced by diluted Fe content near the interface in addition to microstructure and dendritic secondary arm spacing. Hot hardness at $500^{\circ}C$ showed higher than 300 HV.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the prevalence and pattern of perfusion defect (PD) on first-pass stress perfusion MR imaging in relation with the degree of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and late gadolinium-enhancement (LGE) in patients with apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (APH). Materials and Methods: Cardiac MR imaging with first-pass stress perfusion, cine, and LGE sequence was performed in 26 patients with APH from January 2008 to December 2012. We analyzed a total of 416 segments for LV wall thickness on end-diastolic phase of cine images, and evaluated the number of hypertrophied segment and number of consecutive hypertrophied segment (NCH). We assessed the presence or absence of PD and LGE from all patients. If there was PD, we subdivided the pattern into sporadic (sporadic-PD) or ring (ring-PD). Using univariate logistic method, we obtained the independent predictor for presence of overall PD and ring-PD. Results: PD on stress perfusion MRI was observed in 20 patients (76.9%), 12 of them (60%) showed ring-PD. Maximal LV wall thickness and number of hypertrophied segment were independent predictors for overall PD (all, p < 0.05). NCH with more than 3 segments was an additional independent factor for ring-PD. However, LGE was not statistically related with PD in patients with APH. Conclusion: About three quarters of the patients with APH showed PD, most of them represented as ring-PD. LVH degree or distribution was related with pattern of PD, however, LGE was not related with PD. Therefore, the clinical significance of PD in the patients with APH seems to be different from those with non-APH, and further comparison study between the two groups should be carried out.
